  1. A friend of mine is looking for a bass rig on a limited budget for reggae and im thinking of showing her this one. She plays a 5 string so i to enable me to asses it based on my own bf cabs i wonder if  anyone has first hand knowledge how this cab would compare to a BB2 or BTII?

Sonically, does it sit between the two soundwise or is it less powerful than the BB2.

    thanks

  2. Michael Kelly Dragonfly 5 string strung with labella nylon deep talking flats. I'm not keen on flats but these seem to work well on this bass without the clatter I experienced with the phosphor bronze strings that came as standard.

  3. I don't have an absolute favourite but I will post some that are up there.

There are a few, the last one is the one that made me want to play bass. I don't know specifically what it was about that track when I first heard it but listening with more musically educated ears, it may have been that it is more melodic nature and the way it flows with the lyrics without ever losing the groove and still sounds like a reggae bass line. I have met Aston a few times over the years and thanked him for bringing me to music.

I really cannot understand it when people say that - with the Super Twin it's very, very loud (plenty for hearing-protection-in rehearsals with 2 x Marshall 100w/410 geeetards and a shed-building drummer) and with both cabs it's stacktastically deafening...I had the chance a while back to run it through a rehearsal room Ampeg fridge, and it was huuuge through that, too...

I too am a lover of the Walkabout head.I've had mine since about 2004 with some mesa cabs. These days I mainly use it with my BBII and it is great. The fan on mine is a bit noisy though but not noticeable on a gig.

Thought so.  You let me have a play on it at a bass bash.  One of the nicest fretted basses I've ever played; very even tempered and vice free.  Though as well as double Ps, doesn't yours have separate filters per pickup too?

Amazing value at £2k, I'd presumed these things cost Megabucks.

That particular bass is an elan plus, it has a single filter only plus it has bass and treble boost/cut switches. Glad you liked playing it.

    Stunning bass this!

In reality of the two Alembic basses I've been fortunate enough to have had a play about on..The Elan easily outplayed the vastly more expensive all bells and whistles Series 11, This is a lot of bass, and in Alembic price terms! An out and out bargain...GLWTS 😃👍

I have one of these Elan basses, although mine has a P/P setup not a PJ setup and they are a heck of a bass guitar.  Whilst they don't have the flexibility tone wise of the more expensive alembics they  have an unique voice  and hold their own with a lot of dignity clarity, punch, warmth, articulation and you can still get a lot of mileage with it's tonal palette. It's such a versatile bass. All the best with the sale.

  7. A bit of both depending on the song and bassline and the genre. Sometimes the harmony at a particular part of the song works best with the recorded bassline at that point. Sometimes the bassline is played with a particular technique so i tend try try to reproduce it accurately to help me learn a different way of playing. If it's a dep gig the band often want it as close to the way they play it so i will get asked to do it like the record or get a copy of the way they play it to learn.

I don’t take much notice of polls , but It’s nice to hear that 3 of Bob Marley’s albums , legend, Exodus , and catch a fire,  all got spots in the 500 greatest albums of all time , here’s a few of my favourites  🙂

i grew up listening to the wailers in luding Bunny & Peter Tosh. in my humble view I think Bunny Wailers's Blackheart man is one of the finest reggae albums ever.

  9. I sold my PLX2402 and replaced it with a lighter weight Crown XLS1502 which is a great sounding amp and much much lighter which encourages me to use that rack more. But...... of the two I prefer the sound of the QSC amp with my rig and bass but compromise had to be made so that I could use my rack more often. I have toyed with the idea of finding a QSC PLX amp again. Who knows.

  10. Acoustic/Electric guitars sound great through a bass amp. I used my Yamaha APX guitar through my mesa boogie walkabout and 2x10 powerhouse cab and that sounded great. For electric guitar,  only my active ones seem to sound ok as long as i don't use any kind of overdrive/distortion. But i have a guitar amp so I don't need to double up.

  11. My favourite cab is my Barefaced Big Twin II.  I go for a clean sound with the ability to handle a heavy bottom end and that cab does it with ease. For smaller gigs I have a Big Baby II and when I really want more bottom end I add the Dubster II to the mix.
