If I was to order a custom, from a physical playing aspect it would be exactly the same as my current bass, neck body pickups string spacing hardware etc. The only differences would be cosmetic such as different "Coffee Table" woods 🙂 and modifications to the electronics for quick tone changes but since I can get that mod done for my current bass, Having a custom just for those few things would not justify the cost. That said I can see the attraction for a custom bass and if I was able to afford one I'd go with a brand I was completely familiar with their basses rather than an unknown.

I play my 5 string Alembic in a chart topping 1980's reggae band which is probably overkill considering back in those days musicians were using standard readily available basses. But I don't have any other basses that I would play instead and I'm not inclined to get any.😍

What difference does fret height make to a bass? I saw a bass on ebay a while back and it was stated that it has tall frets so I just wondered what effect that has on playability, etc

I don't because the one's I tried seemed to take so much away from the natural sound of my bass and I can hear them working so I leave that to the FOH who know more than I do how to set them up propertly.

I have a short scale bass and just love it, playability and it's a sweet sounding bass. I wish I got more gigs that I could just play it all the way through.

I replaced two of my three Powerhouse cabs 2x10 & 4x10 for two barefaced cabs Big BabyII and Big Twin II and I'm completely happy with my choice. I still have the 1x15 to get rid of at some point as of the three PH cabs it's seen the least live action but somehow got more tolex tears than the other two. In my experience of BF cabs they really deliver the goods, bottom end is spot on. Clear, dense and too loud to stand next to if you turn it up. I got a used Dubster II from a member here and so got all the bass cover I could ever want. If you want an honest sounding cab I'd recommend the BT2 or one or more BB2's. Even my band notice the difference and they know sound.

I have a different kind if GAS....... Gear Abstinance Syndrome. I'm glad to say I'm pretty much done as far as gear goes unless it's replacing worn out stuff. Lockdown & furlough has given me free time to learn to play double bass.

I did a few gigs with a Stevie Wonder Tribute band and this one was on the set list although the cover we did was based on the live DVD version not the single. It went down great

I really like the outrageous look of these basses and a 5 stringer would appeal to me more.

And how does the weight work for you?

Sorry I didn't get back to you but I see you are selling this bass now. I have recently sorted out the next step to change my bass from signature to Anniversary electronics which will give me the same layout as a series I bass with two volume controls, pickup selector switch and mono stereo switch too. That will get me to the same flexibility of a series bass but not the same sound because the series has true single coil pickups instead of hum cancelling pickups that the signature basses have. All the best with the sale. Maybe you could try doing that with your bass, it may make it a better fit for you and worth keeping?

Spoke too soon the cable just pulled out of the jack socket whilst putting the bass on it's stand. Nothing serious just needs re-soldering on. 😞

i have been using Fender Deluxe and their pro series or a while an have no complaints. I can't say i have noticed any difference in sound quality with any of the leads i have bought the higher priced leads tend to have better quality jack plugs like neutrix and the cable is more more durable . I previously used planet waves but their plastic/rubbery jack housings were not consistent in the amount of the shaft of the jack they covered so this could only be a few mm difference but that was enough on some basses and guitars to allow the jack to disconnect and then you have no sound and lots of hum. later i just replaced the jacks with neutrix.

They do have a method of serial numbers and for recent years and models the details are linked on computer so new owners can get a faster response when making a serial number check. but the older vintage models are still on cards so those take time and who knows if they will ever get on to computer. That 8 string is just the kind of bass i would love to own but i don't have anything in my gigging life where i could use it.

I have a feeling that bass has show up sometime back on the alembic web site and if my memory serves me right is one of the rare few non series II basses wth CVQ and alembic are not interested in repeating that again on a non series bass. But it would be good for it to reappear there with some more info on it.

I have had two of these., they sound fine but are not robust the first one the the switchesand headphone socket stopped working, the second the jack broke away from the body. So whilst i liked their sound I wouldn't recommend them. I went for a Phil Jones Bass Big Head which is I can highly recommend. well engineered great simple EQ and doubles as an audio interface though I haven't used it in that way yet.

Probably why they have only made one six string Classico. Actually I read somewhere on their forum that they have only made somewhere between 20 and 30 classico instruments in total. Hard to know for sure as they don't keep counts of individual models of instruments.
