I don't have an absolute favourite but I will post some that are up there. There are a few, the last one is the one that made me want to play bass. I don't know specifically what it was about that track when I first heard it but listening with more musically educated ears, it may have been that it is more melodic nature and the way it flows with the lyrics without ever losing the groove and still sounds like a reggae bass line. I have met Aston a few times over the years and thanked him for bringing me to music.

Anything with Aston Familyman Barrett playing bass.

This is a bass sound I heard recently which is amazing. Alembic John Entwistle 8 String Spyder Bass - mini demo - YouTube

I too am a lover of the Walkabout head.I've had mine since about 2004 with some mesa cabs. These days I mainly use it with my BBII and it is great. The fan on mine is a bit noisy though but not noticeable on a gig.

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2020?
jazzyvee replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
My only bass related purchase this year an Alembic F-2B stereo/mono pre-amp that I got for a great discount price from their French distributor because it had been bought for stock years and years ago but not sold. π So all set for gigging in 2021 when that happens. -

I have one of these Elan basses, although mine has a P/P setup not a PJ setup and they are a heck of a bass guitar. Whilst they don't have the flexibility tone wise of the more expensive alembics they have an unique voice and hold their own with a lot of dignity clarity, punch, warmth, articulation and you can still get a lot of mileage with it's tonal palette. It's such a versatile bass. All the best with the sale.

I'm not a fan of the aesthetic of single cuts but of the crop out there, this brand seems more appealing to me, not that I would buy one.

A bit of both depending on the song and bassline and the genre. Sometimes the harmony at a particular part of the song works best with the recorded bassline at that point. Sometimes the bassline is played with a particular technique so i tend try try to reproduce it accurately to help me learn a different way of playing. If it's a dep gig the band often want it as close to the way they play it so i will get asked to do it like the record or get a copy of the way they play it to learn.

Why so many short scale basses at the moment?
jazzyvee replied to Greg Edwards69's topic in Bass Guitars
I have had short scale since 2002 and whilst I also have a long scale 4 string I prefer the tone and playability of the short scale bass. I think I would be loath to go with 5 stringer and low B on a short scale as I like a bit of tension on the strings but I would still like to try one. -
i grew up listening to the wailers in luding Bunny & Peter Tosh. in my humble view I think Bunny Wailers's Blackheart man is one of the finest reggae albums ever.

Aguilar DB680+QSC PLX31000, to be sold, then new amp found.
jazzyvee replied to Stonehenge's topic in Amps and Cabs
I sold my PLX2402 and replaced it with a lighter weight Crown XLS1502 which is a great sounding amp and much much lighter which encourages me to use that rack more. But...... of the two I prefer the sound of the QSC amp with my rig and bass but compromise had to be made so that I could use my rack more often. I have toyed with the idea of finding a QSC PLX amp again. Who knows. -
Acoustic/Electric guitars sound great through a bass amp. I used my Yamaha APX guitar through my mesa boogie walkabout and 2x10 powerhouse cab and that sounded great. For electric guitar, only my active ones seem to sound ok as long as i don't use any kind of overdrive/distortion. But i have a guitar amp so I don't need to double up.

My favourite cab is my Barefaced Big Twin II. I go for a clean sound with the ability to handle a heavy bottom end and that cab does it with ease. For smaller gigs I have a Big Baby II and when I really want more bottom end I add the Dubster II to the mix.

Looks like this one is a keeper.

I'm not a fan of single cut basses to be honest but this one Stradii Symphony is the exception. I doubt if I would buy one but to my sense of aesthetics it looks the most elegant of the single cut basses I have seen.
