  1. I wish mine had fallen out of a Christmas cracker, would have saved me a few quid. 😂 🙂
  2. I decided on the Big Twin II as the best solution for my needs mainly because I wanted a cab that could handle the bottom end I needed whilst giving me a really honest hifi sound from my bass and rig. To mine and my band's ears It is a great sounding cab. I also have a big baby II and tend to use that on most gigs that aren't reggae and it's always been able to hold it's own even on a couple of non PA outdoor gigs with an instrumental band. You could always try a BBII and if you needed more sound then another in the future should do the same job as the BTII. The fact you can get the barefaced cabs on approval is worth taking up.
  3. Although I would never buy one, I admire the dramatic look of the buzzard bass. It looked correct on a big stage in the hands of John Entwhistle but I think would look out of place in a local pub gig or at a jazz festival. 🙂 This is another one that appeals to me but again not something I would buy.
  4. Two awesome Series II Alembics, though since I don't play fretless the fretted coco bolo is more appealing to me.
  5. Prove it. 🙂
  6. Sweet series II fretless must sound incredible.
  7. This is my bass of pure indulgence, Alembic Series II Europa. I was recording with it last night and still consider myself extremely fortunate to own it. And It's never been used as a coffee table. 😎🤣😍
  8. I'd go for an extremely tasteful but subdued Series II Short Scale Stanley Clarke style custom 4 string alembic. Get them to find me some incredible woods from the private stock and get a guitar made from the same wood but different body styles.
  9. Bass player in that band uses Barefaced Cabs now. 😉
  10. I have a Mesa boogie Powerhouse 1x15 that I bought new in about 2005. I haven't gigged much with it as I also had a 2x10 and 4x10 that I preferred to use. So whilst this one has probably had at most 10 gigs in that time unfortunately the tolex got torn so it does not look in as good a nick as it sounds. Anyway over the past 4 or 5 years I have put it up for sale in various places numerous times on, ebay, facebook market, local rehearsal studios and just got a few enquiries but no bids or offers so it is still in the house unsold it although the other two went really easily. I have now given up trying to sell it now, so in the interest of recycling I wonder what other non musical purposes I could use it for with or without the speaker. Sensible suggestions only please. Cheers
  11. Yes for the Barefaced Big twin II. Superb sounding cab
  12. Impressive set of basses to have owned. Over what period of time did you have these? and after all those what today is your goto bass?
  13. If I was to order a custom, from a physical playing aspect it would be exactly the same as my current bass, neck body pickups string spacing hardware etc. The only differences would be cosmetic such as different "Coffee Table" woods 🙂 and modifications to the electronics for quick tone changes but since I can get that mod done for my current bass, Having a custom just for those few things would not justify the cost. That said I can see the attraction for a custom bass and if I was able to afford one I'd go with a brand I was completely familiar with their basses rather than an unknown.
  14. I play my 5 string Alembic in a chart topping 1980's reggae band which is probably overkill considering back in those days musicians were using standard readily available basses. But I don't have any other basses that I would play instead and I'm not inclined to get any.😍
  15. He also used a Jaydee bass.
  16. Thanks that was a good read.
  17. What difference does fret height make to a bass? I saw a bass on ebay a while back and it was stated that it has tall frets so I just wondered what effect that has on playability, etc
  18. I don't because the one's I tried seemed to take so much away from the natural sound of my bass and I can hear them working so I leave that to the FOH who know more than I do how to set them up propertly.
  19. I have a short scale bass and just love it, playability and it's a sweet sounding bass. I wish I got more gigs that I could just play it all the way through.
  20. I replaced two of my three Powerhouse cabs 2x10 & 4x10 for two barefaced cabs Big BabyII and Big Twin II and I'm completely happy with my choice. I still have the 1x15 to get rid of at some point as of the three PH cabs it's seen the least live action but somehow got more tolex tears than the other two. In my experience of BF cabs they really deliver the goods, bottom end is spot on. Clear, dense and too loud to stand next to if you turn it up. I got a used Dubster II from a member here and so got all the bass cover I could ever want. If you want an honest sounding cab I'd recommend the BT2 or one or more BB2's. Even my band notice the difference and they know sound.
  21. I have a different kind if GAS....... Gear Abstinance Syndrome. I'm glad to say I'm pretty much done as far as gear goes unless it's replacing worn out stuff. Lockdown & furlough has given me free time to learn to play double bass.
  22. I did a few gigs with a Stevie Wonder Tribute band and this one was on the set list although the cover we did was based on the live DVD version not the single. It went down great
  23. I really like the outrageous look of these basses and a 5 stringer would appeal to me more.
  24. And how does the weight work for you?
  25. You are in good company.
