  1. This picture is from one of my gigs and is my regular setup with the DI out going to the FOH. Sometimes the cab gets mic'd also. Depends on the sound engineer. But it never crossed my mind to mic the port. Not something i'd do so my post really was to find out what the pros and cons of doing it would be.
  2. Never seen or heard of one of those before. Quite an interesting sound. Will have to look it up on you tube.
  3. I posted a picture of the rig I was using for a reggae gig last weekend on a facebook group and one of the bassists there suggested that for reggae I should put the mic in the speaker port. Now that is not something I have ever thought of doing on these BF or my previous Mesa boogie cabs. My understanding is that bass ports are tuned ports so i think sending that signal to the PA would possibly be void of frequencies that are needed for a decent FOH sound. I haven't ever had any complaints about my sound so i have no plans to try his suggestion but my curiousity is aroused and I just wondered if anyone here has an experienced view on this.
  4. Good point. I will see if I can transfer this to and remove this one from here.
  5. I have moved my post to the Amps
  6. Never used one but, doesn’t it affect the sound and sustain of open strings that you want to ring out?
  7. My dream bass has always been a Stanley Clarke style Alembic, and fortunately I was able to save up enough pennies to get one and it's lived up to all my expectations.
  8. I think having it more centrally located in the country makes it a more accessible and affordable trip to make for more bass players. Good Move. I've been to the guitar show there this year and last year. There is a large carpark and no extortionate car parks like London. 🙂
  9. Fender Stratocaster works for me.
  10. Does anyone know what the frequency range of the Dubster 2 is?
  11. I've just started depping in a tribute band and they have two sets. 1 hour set and a 90 minute set split into two 45's. I'm gigging with them tomorrow on two gigs, a 1 hr set at a festival in the afternoon and another in the evening of 90 mins.
  12. I remember a few years ago going to a Jazz festival in my city and we were there for the weekend and there were no Jazz artistes on the main stage, and we saw two jazz bands one on in a shopping centre and the other in a small gazebo nowhere near the main stage area. All the bands we saw on the main stage were good bands but not jazz. Good job it was a free festival. But I haven't been to it since then unless there is a someone I know playing jazz there and go to support their gig.
  13. I've been fortunate to have played with some established artistes at some great venues and festivals both here and abroad. That said the only ones i had on my bucket list from way back were Birmingham Symphony hall, which i did twice with my own band, and Birmingham Town Hall with a band i play bass with. I'm a brummie so top venues in my home city is a great feeling. Other noteworthy places i'm chuffed to have played that that weren't on my list. The Greek Theatre (California) 2023 Waikiki Shell (Hawaii) 1992 Womad (Spain, Gran Canarias, Singapore) 2004 - 2006 Bullring (Tijuana Mexico, opening for Santana) 1992 Closing Ceremony for the 2022 Commonwealth Games
  14. Try an alembic F-1X, they have three outputs, low, high and full range plus a variable crossover so you can bi-amp on frequency sending the low to one poweramp and cab and the high to another power amp and cab. Then you have still got the full range that you can send to another rig or guitar amp to get some dirt etc. http://www.alembic.com/support/F-1Xoperatingguide.pdf
  15. I too owned that bass briefly as I found it unwanted in a small music shop in Bristol. I'm not a lefty but decided to buy it and sell it on. Which is where NigeJ got it. Even though it is the cheapest in the alembic range it sounded superb.
  16. I'd love a copy of the podcast if it's in English please.
  17. I would suggest a well padded strap at least 4" wide. Also for heavy basses avoid straps with plastic fittings. I spoke to Pinegrove leather straps st a guitar show and asked them to make a thick padded leather bass strap of my own design to deal with my own heavy basses. They did and it has been great. (Full disclosure i'm now an endorsee).
  18. My other half used quite a few old sets for strapping some trailing plants and a grapevine horizontally to the garden wall and fence. We fixed some small hooks to the wall and fence to go through the ball ends, and used electrical cable connector blocks to join two strings together. worked a treat.

  20. I've had a look round the Jaydee (R.I.P.), place at two of their locations in the past.
  21. Curious if you had considered going fretless?
  22. Factory tours are so interesting. I did one last summer at the new place Rohnert Park, and also in 2012 at their old place in Santa Rosa.
