1. Great gig last night Pete, your bass sounded heavy but not overpowering out front. I also found out yesterday we have a common musical friend Louise Mayer, who was also there at the gig. She says she sometimes deps on backing vocals in Nearly Dan. I used to play guitar in her band in the early 80's. Small world Jazzyvee
2. I bought a GPS tracker last year to keep in my case as I was doing a lot of multi-band gigs where the back stage area was not really clear of strangers. It's pretty sophisticated and you have various scenario's that you can set to receive notifications. You can have a knock sensor message so if the unit is moved or knocked, exceeds a specific speed or moved outside a predetermined zone (geo fencing), for any of these it will send you text with it's GPS location which you click and see it's location on Google maps. You need a standard mobile phone pay as you go sim card http://www.ebay.co.u...T-/251240056359 Unfortunately it turned out to be faulty and was constantly sending fault and help messages and the 72 hour standby battery life turned out to be less than 6 hours. So I got a refund and just keep my bass with me in a good gig bag.I think it cost me £35. A contact of mine in the usa has one fitted inside his bass guitar cavity. http://alembic.com/club/messages/393/76676.jpg I'm still looking for a smaller but more reliable one. Jazzyvee
3. Good choice of amp, I have a qsc setup too with a f1-x pre amp. It's a great way to get great even sound and dynamics at low volume as well as clean at stage volumes. Pretty heavy lump to carry in a rack though. Jazzyvee
4. I tracked a frustrating hum problem back to my broad band over mains powerlines adaptor. When I turned it off the hum and crackling stopped. . http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/networking/networking/powerline-home-networking/devolo-9131-dlan-500-duo-500-mbps-powerline-adapter-kit-twin-pack-21376659-pdt.html If you also have one of those things or the ones for sending media down the mains you could try turning off. 5. I too try to avoid taking extra stuff to gigs. It can be a hassle so I've only tried this at home. My bass can provide individual pickup outputs and/or combined pickup output from its external power supply so I can put both pickups through my mesa bass rig in mono, then also take a signal from the bridge pickup into my Roland JC120 which did produce a great sound and gave more clarity to the top end without getting harsh but you do have to be very careful of levels. If you have a crossover in your rig you can also take the hight frequency out into a guitar amp and keep the bottom end in a bass cab. I'm more of an in the pocket groove player rather than a soloist so at the moment I have more need to keep the bottom end under control and splitting into a guitar amp would not be any use to me live. Mono is good enough. Jazzyvee
6. Just seen this today, what's going on here. Are there lots of ACG basses to check out or something? Where/What is Drew's place? Jazzyvee
7. oops just checked with my other half and we saw you at Huntingdon Hall, Worcester and not Guildhall Gloucester. But yeah looking forward to it. Jazzyvee
8.
Ahh. Was it your band that came to the Gloucester Guildhall last year or so, I wanted to come but was sadly working. If you are this way again, I will definitely come
I was at your gig at the Guildhall gloucester. Excellent gig. Now I know about it I will be at the hare and hounds gig too. It's a nice venue, small and most bands there play far too loud. If I get a chance I'll say hi. Jazzyvee
9.
I've always suspected that the elephant in the room might be the old green-eyed monster. I'm not sure I'd want a Fodera, but I can imagine that many bassists might like the opportunity or option to procure one, even if they then spent the money on something else. So, are we really rounding on the instruments? Or the individual, and the circumstances which have allowed them to indulge their passion to such an extent?
Well Said. Actually is there an agreed definition for a high end bass? Is it based on high price, high quality sound build etc or label, or high profile musician endorsing/using it?

11. I've tended to post my gigs in the events calendar, I will use the gig section as well in future. Jazzyve

13.
It's up to the potential buyer to decide how they want to spend the money they have earned. If a person wants a luxury item and can afford it, then that is a matter for them alone. If they can afford it, but don't like it then not buying it is a matter for them alone. If a person can't afford it but desires to own it there seems to be 2 general reactions - to either make it an aspirational item, worthy of saving up and sacrificing other non-essential spending or they can bitch about how crap the item is, or how crap those who do have the means to buy it are. Most amusingly, an awful lot of the people bitching have never been in the same room with a Fodera / Ritter / whatever. Let alone played one.
True, might I add that most bitching i've read about high end basses is sadly focused on the cost rarely because they think they sound bad. It's an investment in me not the instrument, my enjoyment is the return I get from playing. When it comes to selling, I'm happy to get the best price I can.
14.
You can't polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter!
I hope to be in a situation where I can re-quote that effectively . :-) LOL
15. Looks a good strap I'm sure more comfy than leather, but the fixings look plastic and I'm reluctant to trust the durability of plastic fixings on straps with a heavy bass after having them fail on me on guitars in the past. I have heavy instruments and for me they have represent too great a risk. Leather works for me. :-)
16.
These are excellent - Minotaur from Greece - about £30-40 and arrived within a few days. Top quality and able to deal with heavy basses (I have a dodgy shoulder and back) http://minotaur.gr/c...229867kdh25ar02
I bought one of their 4 inch wide padded leather straps about a year ago and today I've just had delivery of another two to replace some older straps. They are damn good quality.
17. Maybe pickups wound by cougars would be a good alternative... but then they may be considered road worn and that's a whole other debate ...... :-)
18.
What you think of the sound is all that matters.
What we like in a bass sound can be very personal, which is why there are so many different bass makers out there to help us find that sound, and probably why you chose to have a custom bass. If you do gigs with a PA and decent sound guy, I would suggest having a chat with him/ her and get their view on how the bass is coming across as they will want to give you a good sound. Jazzyvee
19.
Guitarists only take one guitar? I'd love to be in that band
When I was gigging regularly on guitar, there were extremely rare times that I took more than one guitar and from memory those were only when I needed acoustic guitar for a couple of tracks in the set, not as a backup.
20.
It has more than paid its way and owes me nothing. It would be an easy sell, but not at more than I paid for it. However the money I have earned with it, together with the joy it offers due to its excellent build has made it an excellent investment.
Yep I agree with that sentiment.
21. I can't help thinking that given a blank cheque to buy any bass our hearts desired we may find that some more expensive basses suddenly become worth having. :-)
22. Simple, a bass is worth it when you are happy to pay the cost of owning it. That goes for cheap or expensive basses. Jazzyvee
23. Anyone know where I can get q-tuner pickups for guitar. I've not managed to find anywhere to buy them on- line. I need 2 singles and a hum bucker. Jazzyvee
24. Anyone got any tips to share about getting a string endorsement deal with D'addario? Jazzyvee
25. Great choice, I changed my bass strings a couple of weeks ago and put on D'addario EXL170-5TP 45-130 nickel strings. I've never used nickel before and these really woke the bass up. I have Prosteels on my short scale 4 string bass and they are fantastic and I've used d'addario's on my guitars for as long as I can remember. Previously I'd been trying out R.Cocco RC 5C Stainless steel bass strings but I don't like the feel when they were new. Quite abrasive to the touch, too much finger noise and didn't stay bright very long in fact by the time the rough surface diminished so had the tone. But I left them on the bass for over a year because I wanted to see if I could get a mellower tone for reggae gigs but to be honest the new strings sound better with the top end rolled off than the old strings did with their faded tone and the clarity was where I wanted it. I have a feeling I will stick with the D'addario strings for a while but the next ones will be stainless steel as I do like the clarity of stainless steel strings and they will probably keep their tone longer. But time will tell. Jazzyvee
