1. I bought two 1U blank 19" rack panels from Andy yesterday and collected them from him. All went well and they are in as new condition. Thanks Jazzyvee
2. I have a couple of ADAT's too so I will be interested in what they will go for. I gave up trying to sell them a good few years back now. Great bits of kit. I loved using them. All the best with the sale. Jazzyvee
3. Many of the gigs I've done on bass where rigs have been provided, they have not been good rigs. They have been good makes but always had some problem, crackling signal, dodgy controls etc. I always use my own rig whenever possible. I did a gig in London earlier this year and there was a big Ampeg rig with a 4x10 and 1x15 but when I plugged in it sounded dreadful and during soundcheck the signal kept breaking up at normal playing volume, which for me is not loud. So I spoke with the sound guy and he was fine with me using my own Mesa Walkabout head which I have learnt by experience to carry to all gigs where there is supposed to be a back-line provided. Saved my skin many times using as a head or even just taking it's DI out to the PA. At least I know my sound will be going out front even if not on stage. As for allowing a band to use my rig, It's unlikely especially after reading this thread but maybe if it was a quiet band. Like some have alluded to,I've spent a lot of time and money getting the rig I have and would not want the risk of someone blowing it and not thinking they should be paying for the repair or replacement. 4. I use mesa boogie bass cabs in my rig and want to try bi-amping but cannot find the frequency range of any of them anywhere on line not even on the mesa boogie site. Do you have any idea what it is? The most I've found is that they are full range cabs but that doesn't tell me anything. Jazzyvee
5. What about a stereo rackmount di box. Does anyone know of any? Jazzyvee
6.
Not been a huge Alembic fan in the past, but not gonna lie, that is a beautiful looking bass! A hell of a lot of knobs though!
Thanks for your comment and yeah a lot of knobs to tweak to change sound so not my first call stage bass at the moment. There are two sets of three knobs, (volume, LP-filter and Q control), one set for each pickup then master volume and pickup selector switch.
7. My Series II Alembic is pretty gorgeous I think.
8. I suppose the reality of signatures models is that they do sell and so are good business for the maker. However I'm sure that if the artiste played their signature instrument they would still sound like themselves, but if you or I for that matter played their actual instruments in their actual rigs we would still sound like ourselves playing their gear. There is still a lot of the sound of an artiste in their fingers and their note choices and that is something that cannot be replicated just by using an instrument that has their name on it. If it's an instrument you like and enjoy the sound of then the fact it is a signature instrument doesn't matter.... does it?
9. I bought the boss pedal and didn't like the way it affected the sound of my bass. I tried it out in my guitar pedalboard, and with electric and electric/acoustic guitars having active electronics it seems to work great. Jazzyvee
10. It's an Essence 5, "post-facelift" version. I absolutely love it. The tone is uncomparable to anything else - it's clear like a bell! It doesn't work everywhere, it needs more room in the mix than Fender basses for example, but when you know where and how to use it it's like nothing else on the planet I've had some problems with it (the neck is VERY meteopatic, the volume control went south - it's disconnected atm - and good luck finding the jack input replacement, lol) but the sound and feel more than makes up for the truble. I've recorded an album and used this beauty on most songs - it worked just fantastic. It's a keeper. Have you tried joining and posting on the Alembic Forum? if you have problems with anything about the bass it's a great place to start and also it might be worth contacting Mica at Alembic directly, I have found them to be great with looking after musicians who own their instruments. Jazzyvee
11. Which model of Alembic did you get?
12. All maple bodied, black Alembic europa
13. Here is my contribution to the black bass thread. Through neck Alembic Europa with signature electronics, all maple body with maple and purpleheart neck. Jazzyvee
14. I don't have the tab but I do have the Level 42 World Machine Song book and can scan the pages of that song for you. It's not tab but score, and as I've never tried to play it I have no idea how close it to the original song but if it's any help let me know. Although it may be as accurate as this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=PJ-Zgx9PlMU#t=149s Jazzyvee
15. Here is a clip of Chuck Rainey Explaining the technique to Tetsuo Sakurai, https://www.youtube....h?v=gZC_jSyUmjQ and a more extended piece using the one finger technique https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TAFWwqeHko Jazzyvee
16.
Hi Jazzyvee - thanks for the lovely comments...no plans I must say! I've tried to get hold of this bass' fretless sister - the response from its owner was unsurprisingly negative (but friendly nonetheless!) 'Saw some clips of you playing with Ken Boothe (unless I'm going nuts) - always loved his voice and a great gig.
Hi Lozbass, no that wasn't me playing on that gig. I was in the crowd. In actual fact he had a gig that same evening in the city and tickets weren't selling that well so he didn't play many tracks in the park. So I think it was really a teaser set to get more people interested in his main gig. But still it was good to see one of the old masters and still has that great voice. Back to your bass, I'd love a short scale Series Alembic but realistically I think I will have to put that on hold as virtually all the paid gigs I do these days require a 5 string bass. But saying that, if the right bass came along who know's. But I think that is a few years off. Jazzyvee
17. Check out the Vertu Album it features Vertu (Lenny White, Stanley Clarke, Rachel Z, Richie Kotzen & Karen Briggs) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtILUCsK0bQ His last two albums Toys of Men and Stanley Clarke band have shown a return to his fusion roots and also more of his acoustic bass stuff on record. That album has some heavy Jazz Rock Fusion. I agree with others, any of the return to forever stuff is worth checking out. Some of the lighter more and more fun side of his musical personality can be found on East RIver Drive, Silk Fuse One, SMV and any of the clarke duke project albums. Also check out some of the Animal Logic stuff which is more pop with Stuart Copeland and Deborah Holland. That had finished by the time I discovered those tracks. http://en.wikipedia....mal_Logic_(band) If you want to check out some of his double bass work, you can't go wrong with the Griffith Park Collection Album Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Lenny White Joe Henderson & Freddie Hubbard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mR1VMHUABZ8 I'm a big Stanley Clarke Fan myself which is what got me into the sound of Alembic. Jazzyvee
18. Here is one on you tube so you can hear for yourself a little of how the fernandes alembic copy sounds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3r_s-zTjrA
19. How long did have yours before it got replaced? I have had mine almost 10 years so unlikely they would replace it now for a newer model. Jazzyvee
20. I got some information about my mesa boogie amp from a guy who makes/repairs and modifies valve amps and apparently the old mesa boogie amp I have is one of the earlier ones, ( it has two inputs whilst the new ones have one input and a switch for active/passive basses. Anyway the problem apparently is in the send and return circuit and he advised me to check this by bypassing the internal switches by plugging a short patch cable between the send and return jacks. I did that and bingo, got a full clean signal again. So this means I will need to open the back and clean the contacts on the jacks or just keep the patch cable. I never use effects so that wont be a problem. Jazzyvee
21. I have just encountered a problem with my mesa boogie head. I did a gig with it on Friday and it was fine no problems. Today i was just starting my practice session and initially the volume was fine, then all of a sudden it dropped to about 50% volume, started crackling and giving a distorted sound then a few seconds later it was back up to normal sound. I wondered if it was due to battery going flat so tried another bass that has fresh batteries in and the same thing happened after a few seconds of playing. Any ideas? Jazzyvee
22.
Was re-stringing this yesterday (managed to get an hour to myself) and got a couple of shots - Alembic know where to get some nice timbers
Bump... This bass is truly delicious, is it coming up for sale anytime soon? :-) Jazzyvee
