  4. i see the mighty priest last night ian hills bass playing is as solid as rock on viagra.a lot of metal bassists jump all over the place looking like complete tits but ian just stays at the back of the stage doing his stuff.no gimmicks no frills just 2 hrs and 30 mins of rock solid bass playing
  5. in south london you have the new cross in and the amersham arms literally across the road from each other. both have gig nights fridays and saturdays always have new bands and bands that have been gigging for years

  12. how about john petrucci the man is like a machine the man can play 3 hour shows 100% note perfect some of his playing is beautifully majestic and some of the heavier stuff is up there with metals heaviest

  17. not quite at the band mate stage but went to try out for a band and cos was travelling to a dodgy part of london took my old yamaha rbx374 instead of my mim precision and before i even intoroduced myself the drummers words were " you cant be in this band unless you use fender" i promptly turned on my heels and f**ked off. they are still looking for a bassist now. wonder why

  23. i know a few scales stuff like that and i do love the learning part it just fries my brain lol and to reply to what warwickhunt said im sure i read somewhere once in an interview once where steve harris said he didnt know hardly any theory i would never put the man down he is the master
  24. hi guys i love playing bass but most theory goes way over my head.4ths 5ths ect leaves my bamboozled. my question is do you really need a vast knowledge of theory to enjoy music my band has a cd out althought not ground breaking i have always just played by ear and play what sounds good to me. I wouldnt know if i was playing bass chords or just playing with myself. i suppose im just insecure in the fact that if i dont know every bit of theory going ill never make it as a decent bass player my 2 favourite bassists are john myung who knows the bass inside out and the other is steve harris who even though is an absolute monster on the bass would admit to not having much knowledge of theory id love to here some of your opinions jamie
