1. I'll try and get some samples done at some point too as it's been a while since I've used a proper rig regularly (been DI only for the last 4 years) I'm hesitant to do a comprehensive review!
2.
Ampeg SVT-2 Pro into a PR-410HLF cab. Like it but a little underpowered for me. Sometimes think I should get another SVT-2 head and link them together!
Dude, I'm going to presume that there's a typo there - if an SVT 2 head is 'underpowered' for you then I suggest you take it to a tech pronto!
3.
A -salesman- told me that to get a valve/SS comparison you times the valve by 3.3 to get its SS equivalent. I wasn't buying any valve gear at the time though. Can anyone back that up/argue?
Far, far too many variables to even use that as a rule of thumb.
4. Depends if you want loud/clean or can live with a little power amp valve saturation (not distorted as such, just a little edge to it and slightly compressed sounding). If you want super loud and super clean then forget about it, otherwise they're as loud, if not louder, than anything I've owned before. I don't want to make too many direct comparisons with amps I've had in the past as they've all been used with different cabs, but I'll try and rationalise my impressions with similar speaker configs: Mesa/Boogie D-180 through Glockenklang Quattro. Louder, but this is proabably the cab more than . Various pre-amps into (Sansamp PSA-1, Yamaha PB1, BDDI pedalboard direct) Matrix STR1500 1500w power amp bridged into Glockenklang Quattro. Would compete but not be as clean. Seriously. Peavey T-max through SWR Bigfoot 2x12 and Peavey 210txf (getting 500w out of the head). Louder. It's probably best to simply ignore the power rating on any valve amp and just give it a blast. I'd say it was more than enough for your average arena show (goes down to 2 ohms so you could use two 810s). Offer still stands for a test run here in Brum.
5. sh*t, sorry guys - forgot to mark this up as sold! Graham
6. Nope. I've got the Pride & Prejudice album that was Zakk Wylde's first album after Ozzy - amazing stuff and cracking bass playing by James Lomenzo.
7. Shuker 6 and G&L L2000
8. I've not played one - there was a new one in my local shop but the battery was flat (WTF?!). Given the amount of raving from other people, I'm really itching to try one out. I bet it doesn't cop the stingray tone that close.
9. It's only desirable to those in the know Between £120 and £160 is probably about right.
10. I'm watching this to see if it can be picked up for less than £130. I couldn't be bothered to mention it when I asked him about something.
11. Get a pair of Mackie SRM 350's/450's for vocal only PA and they will last you years and you won't have to keep upgrading separate bits. You might as well burn £99 as bother buying it; if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't.
12. Don't bemoan the cheap instruments - we could have that too but we'd also be spending £1-200 a month on health insurance! American companies also have some pretty handsome tax breaks IIRC to get US products (note US owned, not necessarily manufactured) to the domestic markets.
13. As with all effects, 'common wisdom' may not suit your purposes so just try out your pedals in different orders and see what works for you. There is no right or wrong really. I find guitarists are far more constrained in this manor as they are basically always copping sounds off records and the 'rules' apply more rigidly then, whereas bass players don't hear much affected bass (besides the guy from muse who seems to have spawned a host of imitators) so can do whatever they like! Can you tell it's Friday afternoon at work? When else would i enter into effect ordering philosophy! Need to start preparing to go home - although the tapping keyboard sounds good to my boss's ears.

*edit*

You missed it when it was in the classifieds then! I posted it this morning by the way so you should have it Tuesday/Wednesday.
15. ..and then there's me who's moving to Bristol in November/December time - if the ale night is a regular fixture then I might have to sign up! Don't know where I'll be yet - hoping to be in/around the Horfield area around Gloucester Road (it's the only bit I liked when looking round!)
16. Tom - I'll check some of that no-logo stuff out when I'm back on a home connection! Sounds interesting.
17. Some seriously nice looking boards going on here. There are also some which appear to be practically unusable to my eyes; cheddatom, that all looks like you need to be crawling around on your knees to use it - is it work in progress? Also some without any kind of true bypass system in place - which is ok with a few high end pedals, but once you've a couple of boss buffers in the mix your clean sound is fooked! dutchwife - I had exactly the same excuse for my 10+ pedals being in a two piece band. The drummer had V-drums and a sampler which made it even more fun. I think the fact that I did all the vocals moderated me in the pedalboard department as it had to be totally functional and practical in order to use it whilst also doing vocals (and swithcing vocal effects to ). Muse-cubed - Looking good mate - what's the signal chain going to be there? Tayste - I'm done with huge boards; just going to keep it simple from now on. Although there's space for a couple of little'uns on there
18.
interesting looper you got that mate, whats the make? or a custom built jobby?
There didn't used to be so many people making loopers/switching boxes - he was the only guy I could find at the time (about 2002)! www.loooper.com My favourite kind of America, i.e. one who totally bullshits the declared customs value without you even asking!
19. it is pretty compact - but that Ampeg is also the same width as a marshall guitar head IIRC.
20. Sorted:
21. Just got my new downsized and simplified one done:
22. She rides! Sounds friggin' amazing - gone from a fair bit of eq to next to just a little bass and mid boost. Cracking. Also sounds great with OD and distortion. It cost one hell of a lot of money but I don't anticipate ever needing anything else. Going to try and pick up an old Peavey T-Max as a backup head though just in case the 30 year old Ampeg ever shits it on me.
23. £350?!?!?!?! WTF?! Awesome! I'd love a gold sparkle ASAT to go with my red sparkle L2k but it'd just be too excessive to have two basses essentially identical except for the horn!
24. Don't like the gold but that's still pretty pimpin' - and the fact that it's a one off is a major bonus.
25. Original metal bands - that, in my experience, is something of an oxymoron. I should add that I like heavy music; can't beat a bit of guitar and shout every now and again. The worst is going to see a touring act (normally a small scale band pulling 1-200 people) and their supports are a bag of sh*te as it's just the record label current artist rosta rather than complimentary, high quality supports.
