1. My guess is that the damage to the neck of the bass looks quite serious, especially considering it's been 'repaired'. I'm not sure of the quality of the 'repair', however, imo, it shouldn't be left which such apparent scars. That and the price tag will put most people off. Those who're prepared to pay good money for a Ken Smith will want a pristine example. I would.
2.
Personally, I dont think your ever going to get a good modern slap sound from a P bass. You'd be better suited with a Jazz or a Stingray
You can if you add a bridge pick-up IMHO (I did, although mine's equipped with Villex pups).
3. Does it come with strings?
4. Having tried loads of different strings in the past, I now only use Status Graphite 'Hotwires'. They come in various flavours, are reasonably priced and the service is excellent.
5.
he lowered it yesterday as much as poss, i have emailed him today with the shim idea and he says go for it as its fairly simple to do and ultimately reverse if it doesn't work!
Sounds like a result. Good luck.
6.
Yeah, i shall leave the truss rod well alone!!! My bass teacher is happy with the shape of the neck and the releif, its just the string height that needs altering so i think i will try this card trick. At least its easily reversed if it makes it worse!!!
Is your teacher able to help you with lowering the string height (or at least advise who to go to if not)? Experienced teachers should know about this stuff.
7. I would stick with the BEADG tuning, unless you need to be able to replicate actual chords to match the guitar player.
8. Check out some Eberhard Weber.

Nice bass! Does it come with Marcus to get that great sound?
10. Are the control knobs original?

13. Colin Hodgkinson
14. This is the chap I'd recommend: http://www.jonhaireguitar.co.uk/ He's fitted a bridge pup for me on my 'P', added a humbuker to my resonator bass etc. Very good and very resonable. Wil
15. I'll be heading over from Peterborough if anyone needs a lift from around that area. I'm hoping to get there for around 11:30ish. Wil
16.
Although for the most part he rests on the neck pickup.
Fair point. For the OP, here's one of Stanley resting his thumb on the edge of the neck...
17. Stanley Clarke rests his (picking hand) thumb on the edge of the neck when playing.
18. If portability is a must, you could look at the Acoustic Image heads.
19. Depending on what type of pup you use on the double bass, you may or may not need a pre-amp depending on the amp you intend to get/use.
20. Yamaha BB-615 maybe?
21. You don't say what gear you use. Bass frequencies will be received differently (intensity wise) depending on the distance of the listener to the speaker due to the wavelength produced. It is also more productive to cut say the bass frequency rather than boost the treble (leave this flat). Also, if you have bridge and neck pups, rolling off the neck pup might help.
22.
Just a point, earlier you mentioned changing things around on the bridge. Did you put it back where it should be? the saddles need to be right in order for the notes to be in the right place on the neck.
+1 If you're inexperienced about setting up your bass, you may not be getting the most out of it. You mention that strings don't sound even (muted E etc). I would try to find someone locally to check over your bass to ensure it's set up properly. Good luck.
23.
I found a Marcus Miller signature bass but different with the CIJ 7802.Here are pics. The seller told me it is a custom built on Mexico jazz bass. Could someone tell me is this a genuine or fake one?
It's a genuine fake one.
24.
Good point! No point in having an ace bass with great acoustic tone if the pickups are poo!
I always loved the sound from my 'p' bass acoustically, but it wasn't until I put better pup's on it when I realised it's full potential.

Consensus on Tuning

Once I tuned my headless Status it won't go out of tune again... ...(ever!)...
