    As has been mentioned several times, the underlying technologies are very different. The boss imprints on top of the input signal to give an approximation of the oscillators used in subtractive synthesis , whereas the FI actually produces pure oscillator waveforms (albeit generated by DSP code as opposed to analogue circuitry). Or by “cram into a neater package” did you simply mean the size of the enclosure? Yes, the FI can go in a smaller housing. Worth bearing in mind is that Boss is a huge company with enormous financial resources to sink into R&D and production and a large staff body whereas Panda is a tiny company with three staff.

    I don’t think that’s quite what is happening either. It applies processing to the whole overall signal, so that if you play an overlapping note you have simply added to the harmonic content of the original note. The pedal now applies the effect to the new overall signal and is triggered by the new volume envelope of the second note. The way to test and demonstrate this would be be playing two overlapping notes and seeing if the filter and volume envelope is applied solely to the second note (after being applied to the first note) or whether it gets applied to the first and second note together (after of course first being applied to the first note alone). I’m certain you’ll find it’s the latter. So basically it behaves a little like a paraphonic synth in that the filter and volume envelopes are shared by all voices (though the SY-1 doesn’t have separate voices in the way a synth does) and both are triggered each time a new note is struck. Some of this behaviour will likely be masked by the fact that there is some dry signal present in the sound so that you’ll hear a distinct new volume envelope of any newly-struck note. I’m happy to be proved wrong if someone can record and post a clip demonstrating otherwise.

    More likely is that the v3 firmware installed fine but you hadn’t overwritten the old v2 presets - this does cause errors. This is why when updating to v3, users MUST write the v3 factory soundset to the pedal as well. This is catered for when using the online browser updater.

    No one mentioned price until now, just price and performance considerations. Obviously price will play into it for some of us but neither pedal is overpriced.

    Because it’s way smaller and fits into smaller pedal boards more easily. There’s a lot of empty space inside the stock FI housing and @GisserD has made an incredibly high quality new housing by precision laser scanning the original, removing any verbiage and 3D printing a new one. Personally I like the original bit for many people board space is at a premium so it’s a neat solution for plenty of people, as evidenced by the relatively high number of users who’ve bought one from him. I had a big box QTron and, had I kept it, I would have got Darren to make a custom housing as it was also mostly dead space.

    Was the FI you used updated to v3? It makes a fair bit of difference to the tracking. The FI can be made smaller by using one of @GisserD‘s custom housings.

    I answered you above when you asked the other day. The 4x4 is a bit overkill. You’ll need two standard midi cables.

    Have you selected your interface for both the editor input and output in the midi preferences menu? Both midi sockets need to be plugged into the FI too as it needs two-way communication with the editor for writing.

    As I said, it’s not really synth-driven. There are other Stevie tunes which are better candidates for synth bass.

    I’ll have a listen and see if I can cop it. The bass line is mostly electric bass and Rhodes, the line is doubled an octave up on a plucked-sounding instrument which could be synth or guitar.

    Most of the listed interfaces are of the kind which have integrated cables. Which one have you gone for? Other than that, all you need is two standard audio cables for input and output.
