Industrial Radio midi bass midibass revamped

Aside from the electronics, it’s a normal bass so setup is the same (as long as you don’t mess with the frets). -

I’ll see how it is when it arrives and if needs be take it to Jon Shuker to change the setup. -
Industrial Radio midi bass midibass revamped

I’ve formally put together a spec and ordered a PJ! James has been incredibly patient and helpful with all my requests and I’ll be ending up with a bass which has (almost) everything I asked for: I didn’t want to forgo the passive tone control or the “normal” jack socket so they have agreed to let me have stacked volume pots for the magnetic pickups, a passive tone control and a front-mounted jack socket (along with the extra knob for MIDI volume etc.). I’ll be paying my deposit soon and then will have to wait up to a year for it to be made. That’s going to be a long wait but will hopefully be worth it. It’s pretty exciting. -
Have you checked Voodoo Lab? They have an option to make your own.

I’ve got my slash chords bank up and running again and have improved it. I’ve now managed to get all three inversions onto each button via three different actions instead of on the expression pedal where I had it before and each is accessible from anywhere. This is better laid out on the MC8 as it looks more like a keyboard layout but it will work equally well on the MC6.

You can already choose a log or lin curve (and several others) on the flexi but apparently this still doesn’t give the same result as having a dedicated lin and log curve on the filter output, hence why it was implemented like this. I did query it at the time, rest assured it is necessary that it be as it is now.

Managed to get my 2 II-V-I banks (open and close voicings) programmed on the MC8 now. In doing so I thought of a cool way to squeeze some more V shapes onto the buttons (sus and 13b9) so this is great news for MC6 users as they don’t have the extra buttons. I’m going to see if I can use this trick on the slash chord/triad inversions banks I programmed - I’m quite hopeful.

Couldn’t resist:

Got it today, they need to print this on a T-shirt!

On another note, my Morningstar MC8 just arrived so I’m going to be getting that up and running over the weekend and will have to reprogram all the cool chordal stuff I did on the MC6.

To be honest, I’ve never had any problems playing both styles whilst leaving my settings as they are. Actually, I wonder if there’s a case for these two parameters to be given their own MIDI CCs so that they could be changed remotely as part of preset selection on outboard gear.

The log output was added in this release as it gives a more natural sweep when assigned to a flexi. I find the layout mostly intuitive and logical. The only part I struggled with was the distortion section which is why I got them to rename it and make sure the labelling all tallied up. I also explained it much more clearly explained in the manual than it was previously. What synths have you used?

That’s lovely to hear.

Wonder if you could get a custom build that takes the noise circuit and OC-2 circuit and combines them. Might be worth having a look inside to see if they are separate. Or talk to Tom at Cog and see what he can do.

@mingsta I’ve replied here as it makes sense to have this info here. You absolutely need to make sure that notes in other strings are properly muted when playing. Octave leaps can be tricky when you’re playing in areas with strong harmonics (around 5th, 7th, 12th fret). You may need to play slightly more staccato than normal to get the requisite muting between notes right. C4 tracks similarly though does have a switchable tracking mode for prioritising either speed or pitch accuracy. C4’s envelope and oscillator options are more limited though so there are a lot of sounds which are simply impossible to get (as were equally impossible on the FI prior to the v3 update to be fair). All of those patches from the old talkbass files are v2 and could be much further improved now that the FI has full ADSR.

The MXR VBO is great. If you don’t need the 2-octave down, just don’t use it (I don’t). Tracking is superb and the best I’ve ever seen across the many octave pedals I’ve had. Don't rule out the Emma Okto Nøjs - it’s worth it for the distortion circuit alone. I sold mine last year when I needed money and missed it. Finally scored another which should arrive today.

Harry bought my Morningstar MC6 last weekend. All done super quickly with prompt, friendly communication and zero fuss. Thanks for helping make Basschat a great place to trade and meet people.
