Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2024?
Quatschmacher replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
I’ve only bought a few bits of gear this year and sold a fair bit. Haven’t really got a worst purchase as I’m happy with the stuff I did get. Bass related, I finally got an early Japanese OC-2 which is hitting the spot. Also finally scored a bigger Aclam pedalboard for a great price so could finally get most of my pedals set up properly. Synths are where my funds have been disappearing, though I did sell one of mine to a friend who’s smitten. I bought another friend’s spare Juno 106 I’d been borrowing for about 18 months as I love it so much. And the UDO Super 8 I got recently is lovely. I sort of want to explore analogue compressors and preamps a bit. May well end up with the new Chase Bliss Wombtone by the end of the year though. -
It’s quiet for me. The only pedal that causes issue sometimes is my Beat Buddy as it doesn’t like being daisy chained.

Thanks, I’ve actually just been and checked this and you are right. Though CCs are all being passed through correctly on other channels, PCs aren’t. Thanks for drawing my attention to this. I’ll report it and get it fixed.
-
If MIDI thru is on in the FI, then all PCs on other channels should be getting sent through. (Make sure MIDI thru is enabled in the global menu; it is disabled by default.) Is that not happening? If not, what MIDI channel is the FI set to? Does it make any difference whether the FI is engaged or bypassed? what device are you using to send the (non-FI) PC messages to the FI? I did some testing last week and found it was working as expected but I think my FI was set to channel 1. I’ll take a look at some other settings.
-
No, I’m saying what it says in the manual. Please read the sections i mentioned. MIDI messages on other channels are passed on as normal (providing MIDI thru is enabled).
-
As said, please read the manual sections I mentioned as they do explain how MIDI works after the new firmware (it isn’t broken, it just work a bit differently).
-
C4 doesn’t respond directly to PC messages via the control input port; there are dedicated CCs for program changes (see the MIDI map in the c4 editor). The only way to have older SA pedals respond to MIDI PC is by connecting them to their Hub (or USB MIDI, which FI cannot supply). Please also read the FI manual sections on “MIDI triggering”, “external MIDI tab”, “midi thru” and “program change out” for clarification on how PC messages behave when using the FI’s new MIDI note feature.

There’s a new batch and they’ve added an internal switch to choose between true bypass and having the drive still active.

The 1-Spot has a 3m cable and you can daisy chain a ton of pedals off it as it’s 1700mA. https://truetone.com/1-spot/

Some funky new features added, including a MIDI translator function.

Lewis bought an Octabvre Mini pedal from me over the weekend. Payment received within 24 hours of his committing to buy. Would be more than happy to transact again in future. Many thanks.

Source Audio Mercury flanger users, help needed
Quatschmacher replied to Quatschmacher's topic in Effects
Just fired up my new Mercury and managed to finally get an answer as to whether the “delay” knob controls the centre frequency of a phaser patch - it does! So ironically Mercury is the best pedal for my use to create phaser patches as I like adjusting the centre frequency but rarely mess with the LFO shape. However, there seems to be a bug as the hardware knob only allows half of the range of the editor knob. I’ve reported it. -
Seems to be an error with the download showing as “insecure”. I’ve reported it.

Windows editor v4.12 is up which fixes the MIDI tab refresh bug that was present in v4.11.

I have played two of these very pedals as @admiralchew kindly lent me them recently. The Barbanera is a very lovely filter indeed. It’s a long time since I’ve played the Moog of which it is a clone but it sounded pretty close to the memory I have of it. Also adds some nice extras like LFO and overall level control. The Slampegg sounds fantastic too. I did indeed also have the oscillation issue described when running at 9V without a buffer. It occurred when turning the pedal’s gain high and having the passive tone on a low-output passive P fully open. Rolling off either the bass’s tone or the pedal’s gain stopped it. I can also confirm that running a buffer before it stopped the issue at all gain/tone settings entirely, even at 9V. This behaviour seems to be documented elsewhere too so seems to be a design quirk as opposed to a one-off defect. Lovely, honest seller who takes great care of his gear so buy in complete confidence. GLWTS.

Reviving this to say I’ve now managed to compare the Octabvre MKII, Mini and MKIII and I much prefer the first two. The MKIII is quite different and I’m really not keen on it. I own the Mini at the moment but would dearly love to get the MKII again. (Really wish I hadn’t sold mine when chasing the latest shiny new thing.) Also finally got an OC-2 and get it now.

3Leaf Audio Octabvre Mini - *SOLD*

It is indeed fantastic. The MKII comes closest to it when the tone knob is fully anti-clockwise and the TIM switch is on, but still differs; the Mini is cleaner. Mini also retains fatness even when the tone is fully open. (Ironically I’d like the MKII for the really thin buzzy sound one gets when TIM switch is off and tone is fully open for synth lead type stuff when combined with a filter.) -
For anyone unsure what this does, it allows you to connect up to 5 Source Audio pedals so that current settings across all connected can be saved via a single button press and instantly recalled via MIDI. It also allows expression input. It’s a very clever system and works with all their Soundblox, Soundblox 2 and One Series pedals. It’s essential if you want to store more than the 6 presets available on the earlier One Series pedals. The Hub has 128 presets. In excellent condition. Boxed with its original non-UK power supply. (I ran it off my Zuma.) However, if you need a UK supply, I’m happy to swap it for one as I have a few and don’t use them much. Also comes with the standard 3 TRRS cables. (I may be able to rustle up 2 more if needed, but will need to check how many I still have; if not SA will usually give you them for free if you ask them). This is exactly the same as the Neuro Hub internally and functionally; just a different colour enclosure. (Can be used with non-SA devices too: I used to use this to send expression messages to my Future Impact before I got into bigger MIDI controllers.) Price includes free signed-for UK postage.

That’s the behaviour I’d expect. What I’m trying to ascertain is whether in a phaser patch the “delay” parameter is indeed controlling the centre frequency of the phaser’s notch filter. (As said, in the previous Neuro, the “delay” parameter was actually labelled “delay/frequency”. the way to test would be this: Load the phaser patch; Turn the “depth” knob to zero; Move the “delay” knob back and forth on the pedal and listen for any movement of the phaser.
