The industrial radio midi bass really does seem to buck that particular trend. Still a lot more money than a keyboard though.

For anyone else looking at this, the Roland SE-02 is well worth a look (if you can get past the tiny knobs).

Just sold my Musicman Sterling to Ben. Communication was really prompt and friendly and after messaging this afternoon we arranged for him to drive up (a four-hour round trip) and collect it from me. He turned up exactly when he said he would and it was nice to spend an hour talking bass with a such a thoroughly lovely guy. I’d be more than happy to trade with Ben again. Deal with absolute confidence. Thanks again Ben, enjoy the bass!

As mentioned in my other bass sale, I’m having to move house and need to raise funds for deposits and other boring stuff so need to sell a couple of things. Next up is a Japanese Fender 75 Jazz reissue. It’s a three-piece body. Weighs 4.7kg. In the interests of full disclosure, I got this on basschat last year, sadly from an unscrupulous seller (hopefully now banned) who misdescribed its condition, so I took it to Jon Shuker and got him to do a full setup, fix the loose wiring, replace the jack with a new Switchcraft one and replace the bridge with a new Fender Badass-style high-mass one. Got him to level and dress the frets, oil the fretboard and fill in and level a lacquer chip. It’s now in great shape. There is still a bit of oxidisation on the pickup screws and pole pieces but nothing which affects functionality. There are a couple of lighter lacquer dimples and a scratch. See photos. The finish on this bass is great, the neck pocket is a nice, snug fit. Lovely rosewood board and mother of pearl blocks. Truss rod is fully functional. Sounds nice and snappy, probably partly due to the round laminate as opposed to slab rosewood board. Is fitted with a just-nicely-worn-in set of 45-65-85-105 Rotosound steels (made me fall in love with roundwounds after years playing only flats). The neck profile is fantastic - better than the chunkier 74 profile, in my opinion. 7.25” radius. Comes with the Hiscox case pictured. The velvet is loose over the storage flap (see photo). There’s a bit along the metal seam which doesn’t quite close fully. It’s secure for carrying but may not be watertight. See last picture. Would prefer pickup from Sheffield or I might be able to deliver on the train as I don’t mind combining a visit to friends with delivering the bass. I’m due trips London and Bath soon. If we end up going down the postage route then it’ll be about £50 going via UPS premium fully insured.

This is a bit of a feeler. Due to a change in my family circumstances I’ll need to move house in the next few months and will need money for deposits and household stuff. This means having to sell a couple of instruments (including my Rhodes Stage 73). This is a beautiful example of a Sterling. I struck lucky on this (I bought ten years ago from a store in the USA via eBay) as it’s a lovely, resonant thing with lovely grain. Weight is 4.2kg There are a few little marks from the previous owner - see pictures with the 5p coin. There are two tiny cracks in the outer frame of the battery compartment which were there when I got it and have never worsened. They are just visible in the picture (one is by one of the screws). The centre detentes aren’t as positive-feeling as on a new one but are still feelable. Comes in the Road Runner hard case pictured. Collection from Sheffield preferred or I can potentially travel (via train) to deliver. I’m fairly flexible about where I’ll travel to as I have friends in various parts of the UK I could visit and I can bring the bass along. I’m due a London and a Bath trip in the next month or so. Currently strung with 50-105 Chromes but there’s a set of Fender 50-100 flats and some D’Addarrio rounds 50-105 (not sure if they are nickel or steel as they came with the bass) which I’ll include as they are cut for this bass.

Indeed. Why one can’t edit parameters on TC stuff on one’s phone is a real shame.

You beat me to it. I was literally about to message you about this! -
Last time I was at Jon Shuker’s he was telling me about a “self-tuning” bridge that currently exists for guitars and that a bass version was in the design stage. Essentially one tunes the instrument and the bridge senses any changes in string tension and compensates according to maintain stable tuning. I think it might have been the Evertune he was talking about as there’s a page on his website devoted to them.

I don’t think this is wholly out of place here:

Seems you knew the answer all along, Bas. 😄
