    I’ve had another conversation with Olivier today. He’s tested the LPF option and reports that it won’t work. The fact that the resonance control is global means there’s no way to adjust the boost in output on the LPFs down individually. The PCBs are already in production so extra controls can’t be added. That’s a shame, but I’m sure the pedal is going to be awesome anyway.

    For sheer versatility and range of sounds the Cog T-70 is a very strong contender. I’ve currently got it up against my Octabvre MKII, MXR BOD and Octo-Nøjs. The Cog doesn’t track as well for me as the others but gets quite close to the bouncy, doink-doink sound of the 3Leaf on the Tim setting with the tone rolled off. It also sounds close to the fat blend of clean, high growl, medium girth setting of the MXR. It also sounds like it has more heft at the bottom than the Emma pedal, though the latter has a unique sound with its filter wide open that the Cog cannot match. It’s tricky to describe; when the Cog’s filter is open it sounds like there are two distinct sounds going on - a low subby one, then on top a growly, fuzzy sound. The ON by contrast sounds like a more integrated whole - fuzzy and fat, though not as deep as the Cog. If I had to pick one (which fortunately I don’t) then I think the T-70 is the winner. The fact that one can quickly switch between three vastly distinct tone-blends is brilliant.

    3 BPFs and 1 LPF is also a possibility, Olivier has just confirmed. So I’m guessing 3 LPFs and 1 BPF would also be possible.

    Formants are two resonant peaks so dual bandpass is best for this. So not having a pair of low passes wouldn’t stop that. Still, a pair of low pass filters might also be cool.

    I thought I hadn’t seen those last two points. Yes, as I mentioned in a PM and another thread about this pedal, the gated fuzz is modelled on a Lovetone pedal. Did the filters have to be in pairs? 1 LPF and 3 BPFs would also be interesting if doable.

    More specs after discussion with Olivier: The “fuzz” knob is a drive control, which begins to gate at half position. “Filters” knob controls filters’ volume ”mix” is dry signal on the left filters on the right. The fuzz runs into the filters (not parallel). 4 pole filter - yay! Mod selector is between LFO/Exp (or CV)/envelope up/envelope down It’s possible to modulate the ENV (or EXP/CV) with the LFO when LFO switch is in the HIGH position. It’s also possible to modulate the LFO speed with the ENV (or EXP/CV)

    Holy cow! That’s amazing news! Option 2 sounds great. Presumably by setting the mod depth to zero and opening the filter fully on 3 of them, you’ll be able to use it as a “normal” single filter.

    As far as I can see it looks to have big knobs for “fuzz”, “mix”, “filters” and something else ending in “...ck” (possibly “feedback”, i.e. resonance). Looks like four filters with their own frequency control and what looks like “mod” for modulation depth. Can see an LFO knob with fast and slow speed settings. The knob for mod source suggests that only one source can be used at a time and looks to be “LFO”, “Exp” and I guess “env up” and “env down”. Independent attack and decay knobs too! I can’t see what the LFO control knob does, whether it’s for selecting wave shape or whether it is indeed possible to have it in addition to the envelope. There does appear to be at least one more large knob on the periphery so I can’t see what that does, maybe something for the fuzz part or a filter mode (LP/BP/HP/Notch) switch? I was surprised that the fuzz has a flip switch as opposed to stomp switch. I’ve asked for him to post a full shot.

    MANTA I’ll kick things off with the following presets. I’ll add to these later and edit my post accordingly rather than creating a new reply each time. All presets were created using a Fender American Standard Precision bass with 50-105 chromes unless otherwise specified. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Iq2WVztJXu0l5b7waB9T_Nr_pKrpfod4 1. Pre-Hub RH HW Preset You’ll need to run octave and fuzz (preferably in parallel) and adjust their volumes up or down until they open the filter to the desired degree. Then start mucking about with the Manta settings to taste. This preset doesn’t sound good with just the bass; you really need to feed it octave and fuzz for it to come alive. 2. Pre-Hub LH HW Preset As above 3. Modified 0 A variation on the “Pre-Hub LH...” Experiment using the tone control on your bass (it will affect output so you may need to tweak the volume to match the filter sweep). Also experiment with pickup configurations. 4. Foldover Multipeak Should be played with the tone wide open for best results. Again, you’ll need to play around with the volume level on your bass to get the sweep right. This was played without any external distortion as it messes it up. Experiment with and without octaver, preferably one on which you can dial in a non-subby tone on. 5. Use with solo octave down Pretty self-explanatory. Again, adjust your volume to get the sweep to taste. I did this one on my Octo-Nøjs with the filter on half. The patch needs some higher harmonics for the resonance to come out properly, a really subby signal won’t work. I think this is one I programmed the expression pedal to bring in LFO; try it and see. Also, use in the Manta’s extended mode and scroll through some of the other filters, there are about three or four others which work really well leaving all other settings untouched, particularly the next one up from this one in the circle.

    I got a reply from Nathan. As I suspected, the filter cutoff on the Minitaur is being modulated by the amplitude envelope of the bass guitar. I’ve asked him if he’d have a go just using the gate out to trigger the Minitaur’s internal envelopes instead to hear how that sounds, which he said he’d do if he gets time.

    I’m just copying this in from a PM conversation I’ve just had: I just had a really long play with the Enigma, various octavers and the Mastotron. The Enigma is effing great for downsweeps as there’s large control over the attack speed and decay speed. The latter means you can get it to retrigger quickly. Even better is the fact that you can set the start and stop frequency of the sweep so you can easily stop it from diving right into the subs. Moreover - fat analogue warmth!

    ‘Tis a thing of beauty. The other two are pretty damn amazing. The Matrixbrute is so ridiculously deep and flexible as any of the 12 fixed sources (plus 4 of your choosing) can be routed to any of the 12 fixed destinations (plus four of your choosing) in any combination, in any amount and all at the same time! The Pro 2 is also astounding. Do check out Marc Doty’s (Automatic Gainsay) YouTube videos on the Matrixbrute and Pro 2 and you’ll see what I mean.
