  1. Trying to declutter my brain a bit really and free up some money for other stuff (itching to order a new Rhodes as it’s something I know I’ll cherish but they’re not cheap). Looking forward to seeing what Jon’s created for you.
  2. I think I might be mentally unwell again. As I mentioned, the PJ thing isn’t maybe the best setup for me. I’m finalising my Shuker build which will be a straight P with likely a 38.5mm nut. I have a PJ MIDIBass on order, again with a 38mm nut (though not even sure that’ll ever get built as it’s been over two years since I put a deposit down on it). I also have a straight P (but with a 41mm nut) to tide me over.
  3. Might have to make sure I am soon. Thanks!
  4. Definitely get a Hub and MIDI controller and you’ll get easy access to 128 presets.
  5. Super jealous, love to play one of these at some point before I die.
  6. @thebrig guessing this doesn't fit your needs, despite the camouflaged J pickup.
  7. I’m finding that I want to play Ps with heavy flatwounds. These sound great but end up being too heavy to play at the bridge pickup so kind of negate having a PJ for me. I think I’d be better off with a separate P and J, hence this beauty is up for sale. I ordered this new directly from Lakland and got it in summer 2020 (but still haven’t got around to taking the film off the pickguard). Anyone who’s tried these will know that Lakland make some of the nicest necks out there and this is no exception. Beautiful and a doddle to get around on due to the slim nut and satin finish. This has the full size Hipshot tuners on (standard wind) rather than the Ultralites. Nice and beefy P bass pickup (one of their own design) and a burpy J bridge pickup. Alder body in Olympic White. Rosewood fretboard with bird's eye maple dots. Quartersawn maple neck. The J pickup is painted in the same finish as the body. 37.5mm at nut, 22mm at 1st fret, 24.25mm at 12th fret. 10” radius. @dub_junkie can probably attest to how nice this is as I let him have a play on it when he bought a bass off me a few months back. Strung with Labella 760FL flats (which seem to offer the best compromise for playing over either pickup) and recently set up by Jon Shuker. I’ve noticed a small lacquer crack around one of the neck heel screw rings. See picture. Weight is 4.3kg. Collection from Sheffield preferred. Possible delivery/meet-up around Yorkshire, on the route between Sheffield and the North-East or on the route from Sheffield to Bath. Please ask and I’ll see what’s feasible. I'm not going to post this. Drop me a line if you have any questions. Here’s a taste of what it sounds like as a P (direct into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4): Rhodes Herb type riff with Lakland bass.mp3
  8. Did you beta test one too or were you just quick out of the blocks getting one?
  9. I’ll get to it at some point in the next few days. In the meantime:
  10. Maybe. As said though, it’s mainly for research for my Shuker build - I need to know whether a 39.5mm nut would be comfortable for me.
  11. Giving this a bump as I’d still greatly appreciate just being able to literally get my hands on one of these for just a few minutes.
  12. By that token I could buy another bass as I sold one last weekend.
  13. Bum. I wanted to try this one too. Lovely. Congrats.
  14. Glad to hear it. would definitely like to try this before sending my specs to Jon. You didn’t happen to try the white fender jazz deluxe that has now reappeared did you? Wondering if it’s any good, given someone has obviously returned it.
  15. Correct, you need to plug a bass, keyboard or sequencer into it. 😆
  16. Actually maybe not as I’ve signed up to the gear abstinence thread. 😱
  17. Isn’t that this? Certainly brings the bottom end!
  18. Not sure what the aim is here. This is an effects discussion on a bass forum so I think you’re unlikely to convince anyone of bass effects’ uselessness per se. 🙂 Sure, there’s plenty of music where effects aren’t needed or would be unwelcome/sound out of place. By the same token, there are many settings where a judicious use of effects contributes musically, even holding down the low end. Thankfully there’s a place for all these approaches. (Most of my gigging has been without effects, but I have managed tasteful use thereof in some settings where they wouldn’t normally be heard much and it went down brilliantly with the audience.)
