Hey Trev, I'm sure both yourself and destiny are right, I am going to get a Spector!!!! Incidentally, I have been on the thumb for about 2 hours every day!!!!! I cant seem to put it down. I think my Streamer is jealous of all the attention, plus the streamer gives me a dirty look every time I mention the Spector word. Hope you are well
Hey Matt. I'm glad the Thumb worked out. It's a bloody brilliant instrument and I will be after a neck-through at some point. Marcus has shaped up very nicely indeed. I swapped out the bridge for a Schaller and now the action sits about where I had the Thumb. It's a lovely, fast, smooth neck and I'm thouroughly enjoying it. I do miss the Thumb sometimes (although when I do, I just pick up the Euro and I'm sorted ;-)
Hello Basschat peeps, Can anybody help? I have a Warwick Streamer LX, its an old one made in 97. I recently played a Spector euro and really liked the versatility of the tone range. Is there any value on changing the MEC pups on my Streamer to EMG's with the hope for a similar tone?
Buy a Spector! Serously, I don't know how much difference swapping the pups out'll make as some of what you were hearing and feeling in the LX was the wood choice and, in particular, the neck-through construction (which seems to add a certain, what's the technical term.......boink (?) to the tone which is more than a little addictive when slapping). Here's a little vid of a fella doing an A/B with swapped out pups in a Thumb: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cE_vEsnoN4 The overall character of the bass remains very much the same.
For sale, a set of the latest EMG Jazz bass pickups that I've removed from my relic Jazz. These feature the quick connect system so no soldering is needed & are the USA sizes (slightly larger bridge pickup), comes with original box & instructions. Eighty squids to your door.
Do you know what model these are?

CIJ Marcus Miller 4 with a schaller 3D4.....
Sorry - that's not right unless the 3D design's been modified recently, which I doubt. I've fitted Schallers to 3 of my Fender-style basses, what they have is 3 main screwholes & 2 "pilot" holes about 6mm or so in front of the main ones. The pilot holes align with 2 of the originals and allow you to accurately mark & drill for the new ones. I suspect if you just used the original holes you wouldn't have the saddle travel to get the intonation right. That said, fitting a 3D is dead easy, and they're better-made, more versatile, more compact, better looking, lighter & cheaper than a FatAss II. No-brainer as far as I'm concerned! Jon.
Bugger, you're right. I'll try and find some offical fitting instructions to post here. Tech drawings are here: http://bass-pickups.com/download/C1ffcfe16...fccaf4dd6XY1373 I've fitted a couple of these on fresh-builds and tackled this one the same way without considering the guide screw holes. As it is, there's no problem with intonation which is set correctly, leaving a good 8mm backward travel on the E-sting. -

"Don't worry. "Schaller" is German for "Bottom". " ........or maybe it's "elbow", I'm not sure. I never could tell the difference. -

"But how will I know which end of the bass I'm looking at? " Don't worry. "Schaller" is German for "Bottom". "Looks gorgeous, I'm really tempted by one of these myself now." That extra couple of mil on the action does wonders for the playability. Biiiig difference. Now for the pre-amp......................... -
Here's mine. Brilliant piece of kit:
i'm guessing the csrew holes are different though? so new ones need to be drilled? is that right?
Yup. That's right. The center screw uses the existing hole. The two that need drilling fall nicely between the existing holes. 3mm bit. edit: .......or you could use the correct way of fitting to a Fender which is this: "what they have is 3 main screwholes & 2 "pilot" holes about 6mm or so in front of the main ones. The pilot holes align with 2 of the originals and allow you to accurately mark & drill for the new ones." Thanks Mr Bassasin. -

£50 ish. $100+ in the states (nice that we're cheaper for a change, eh). They do a black one too. Reckon that'd look good. -

Hey all. I don't know if this a common problem, but the action on my MM with a BadassII fitted was too high for my tastes. Far too high. Rather than using the Micro-tilt (I prefer full contact at the neck pocket) or filing the saddles to knubs I opted for a a new bridge, in this case a Schaller 3D4 and the results are spot on. It allows for a nice low action (which the quality of the neck and fretwork allow), adds the ability to adjust string spacing and provides a little more definition to the sound overall. Looks better than a Badass too. Also, it doesn't have the word "ass" written on it. Edit: pics......... The bridge casting follows a similar radius to the neck and with all the saddles very slightly lifted from the base I'm getting a far more comfortable action than with the badass. It plays very, very well.
I had the pleasure of playing desmonpot's euro, very similar to this one yesterday OMG what a bass, Spanks the pants off a streamer stage 1 A bargin!! Bump
Yup. Great machine. The build quality is top notch, the fret job's spot on (it takes the lowest action of any bass I've owned) and it's very comfortable to play. It sounds, if you'll excuse the americanism, awesome. It does fat Jazz, pumped up P and has a slap tone to die for.

You're more than welcome, Matt. Pop by whenever you're passing and I'll stick the kettle on.

Matt and I swapped basses this morning. He's a cracking fellow and I heartily recommend him to all. Buy, sell and swap with confidence.

Should be snapped up in seconds this. Shame I bought one a couple of weeks back 'cos this one would have suited me better (I'm guessing it has the updated tonepump with the internal level adjustement).
Do this. I was in exactly the same boat as you, I got onto PJ and had a reply within minutes! He wasn't able to supply me with a free one (which I didn't really expect anyway) bu he pointed me in the right direction and I now have a replacement Tonepump on it's way as we speak! Spector's customer service is truly second to none, they really care about their players.
How much did the new tonepump set you back in the end?
There you go.... the full 18v signal is just too hot for your old Trace head methinks...
Yeah, and my Focusrite strip and the inputs on my Delta 66 I'll ask PJ politely if he could see his way to swapping this one for a newer version. That should do the trick as I like the tonal adjustment on the Tonepump. It rolls off the treble without sucking out too much mid detail and boosts to a healthy active sounding snap. The bass boost frequency's well chosen too. It fills out the bottom end well without booming (or not till you get to the extremes, anyway). I did some recording with it last night and it sounds great, as long as the volume pots are kept around 6. And I rasied the pickups again which definately sounds better.
Yeah but there will be a day in a gig where you want to raise it and can't.... Before you do anything else, open the back and check for a small trim pot, where you can adjust with a small screwdriver....maybe you already have the new tonepump.
I'm afraid mine's a 2007 (I think), just before the changover. So no trim pot.
