1. I've got a cruise contract coming up too with Royal Caribbean. I've just booked my medical with my local GP and they've quoted £89 but I'm thinking it could end up much more expensive. I gave my forms to the receptionist who didn't really read them and read all involved with it and told me the price.

On a subject unrelated to cost, can someone assure me that a prostate exam will be nae bother? I'm dreading that!

Ha! I beat you in the queue though. I found it at about 3am ;)

But yes, thanks for linking to that. I knew it was a scam when I saw it but I just wanted it to be true so had delve deeper.

  3. The other night on Gumtree I saw a great bass for an unbelievable price (a bass that goes for £750 - £950 second hand for £400). I PM'd the owner through Gumtree Mail and about 14 hours later, I received a reply saying, "I am out of the office, please contact me home at .

I thought that was a bit fishy so sent him the same email I sent him via Gumtree Mail to the email address specified. I asked if he could post it, however, for the bargain of a price he was offering, I wouldn't mind getting a train from Glasgow to London to pick up in person. He got back promptly with this message:

    "i can post,

We can close the deal through PayZone a local store near you.
You will have the opportunity to try the item at your address.
The transaction will be like cash on delivery, let me know if you're interested."

I replied and asked if what he is saying (I know it's not) is that he'll post to me and I'll pay him when it's delivered.

He's yet to get back to me but this is definitely a scam, eh? If he reckons I can go to London for cash on collection, should I take him up or will that never happen cos he's a scamming arsehole?

  4. SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD

    Beautiful sounding and playing bass.

This is an earlier 'Made In Japan' (as opposed to 'Crafted In Japan') model. The serial number dates it to 1994.

The bass features a blonde slab body, black single-ply pick guard and vintage reverse tuners.

There are some mods that have been done to this bass which sets it well above the original, in my opinion. These mods are:

Seymour Duncan SCPB-3 Quarter Pound 'Basslines' pickup.

Fender deluxe 4 saddle bridge with threaded saddles which was a direct bolt in replacement. I think we all know the advantages of a 4 saddle bridge as opposed to the original 2 saddle bridge.
I will, of course, include the original pickup and bridge in the sale.

It features some lovely pickup and bridge covers. I'm not overly sure that these are stock but hopefully someone can straighten this out? Anyway, the bass looks a lot lovelier with these on.

Sound wise, the upgraded pickup gives it a beautiful early P bass tone - Think 'Jamerson' tones.

The neck is a nice profile. My main gigging bass is my Stingray 5 and going between the two isn't a chore at all. I've included a pic to hopefully give some sort of indication of the neck profile.

This bass is a beautiful specimen and in great, great condition. If I didn't know it was made in 1994, I'd say it rolled out of the factory yesterday. It's got a beautiful round Precision tone and plays like butter.

I'll include a Fender gig bag with the sale.

More than willing to post. PM me.

    Trades:

    Stingray 5
    Lakland 55-02
    Sandberg

Things of this ilk. MUST have 5 strings. Willing to give or receive cash in trades.

    And for the pics:

    Thanks for looking!

  5. Without sounding like a total noob (I know I'm about to), what's the difference between the Stingray and the Sterling?

I'm a long time Stingray player and looking for something to take on tour as I love my Stingray too much to take on tour so looking for a replacement.

    Cheers!

  6. Hey all, I'm hoping this can be answered here.

I've recently taken my first cruise ship contract - I'm more than excited about this but then I thought about taxes whilst earning abroad. I know for a fact that I pay no tax to any country whilst I'm aboard the ship and anything that I earn there is mine.

I'm a self employed musician in the UK and fill in self assessment and the likes and declare all of my UK earnings. Now, if I'm away on a ship for 6 months, do I declare those earnings to the HMRC when I fill in next year's tax return?

Can anyone who's been away on ships please help me out here?

    Ta!

  7. I've recently been looking at buying another Stingray and have been look at the BC marketplace.

In 2010, I bought my current Stingray 5 for £750 - And at the time, I could have got one for around £700 if I'd have shopped slightly more carefully, but I loved the colour of mine so HAD to have it.

However, looking at the marketplace, it would appear you're hard pushed if you want to be spending £700 and prices seem to be starting at about £800 and going up to over a grand for a second hand product.

I know the market really was a buyer's market for years because people had no money, so prices had to be favourable to buyers.

So, is it the case that a few years ago, guitars were sold for less than what they were worth? Are guitars going up in VALUE or just in price?

Are shops selling guitars more expensively too? I haven't priced in shops for years and years, so wouldn't know!

And does anyone have a Stingray 5 they want to let go of for £700? ;)

  8. Thanks for all the suggestions here guys.

In the end, I remembered that I had the slap chorus to Paul Simon's "Diamonds on the soles of her shoes" down pretty well. I played them that and some slap disco octaves. I figured the disco octaves would be more what they'd be after on the gig.

  9. Ok, so I've got an audition for a cruise ship agency tomorrow at 2pm - One of the phone/Skype audition things.

Anyway, they've told me there'll be sight reading which they'll send 30 mins in advance and they've told me they want to hear Billie Jean, Play That Funky Music, an example of slapping and anything else I decide I want to throw in.

The only this is, I have NO slap chops I can slap disco octaves but I think they want more than this? Is there a specific disco type tune I could play to show some slap chops?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers!

  10. I recently went over to the states and brought back several pedals and strings and stuff in my hold luggage. That was all fine.

I'm sure if you walk through the nothing to declare with your head held high, they're not going to stop you? I have a mate who travels frequently with his guitar and has never been asked to open the case for an inspection, let alone being accused that he bought it abroad.

i was thinking about all the things you are but there are so many versions on the tube. Any recommendations bilbo ?
Arrange it yourself! That's even more impressive for an audition I'd say, but less than arranging it, they may just want to play it straight off the bat, so if you could describe a feel well, they'd probably be up for that too.
