1. Yes it is. Thanks.
2. On Saturday night I played as part of Rendition at the Elleray, Windermere. Parking is always an problem and a Bank Holiday Saturday made it worse. The crowd in the pub/hotel were fun and many visitors (unsurprisingly). Talking to a local who said that with Cartmel Races being on there were fewer locals. Still we had a great night. I was concerned with my own mental and physical fitness as I'd just returned from over 2 weeks in the USA at 7 hours time difference. Still I only felt it as we got the penultimate song. I'd chosen to keep my gear simple for this event as space is limited, and the BB425x rang out marvellously through the MB500 and BF Midget. This was the second time I'd been there with Rendition and this time we didn't get caught out by the 11PM curfew. It is a hotel as well and people want to get to sleep. So we started earlier. We had some visitors who said how much they enjoyed the band and had only planned to stop for a quick drink and ended up staying the whole night! We had some great personal feedback from both visitors and locals.
3. SOLD onBay Price: £330 including postage to UK addresses Carvin BX700 amp. This is a great amp which can go down to a 2 Ohm load with a switch on the back. I cannot say that I have had a time to use this feature, but for some it will be useful. The switchable EQ sections between the GEQ and Low, Low-Mid (para), Hi-Mid (para) and High are useful and this can be done with a footswitch. A two switch footswitch with TRS lead allows controls the Mute as well as the GEQ selection, again very useful. Both switches are illuminated (blue) to show that they are engaged. Again usefully the mains connection take the usual IEC C13 (aka "kettle lead") connection and you can use a locking IEC C13 lead. There is a switchable valve in the pre-amp section. Though in overall use the amp is still lightweight. Dimensions: 3.25 (H) x 14 (W) x 9 (D) inches Weight: 2.65 kg Valve: 12AX7 I have used this as my (pub covers) band amp for a few years without issue or damage. The rubber feet are all in place and there are no scratches on the front, sides or top. There are a few small scuff marks underneath. Although I have not had to drive it very high as there is loads of headroom, even with a single 8 Ohm cab, never mind two. I have used it with my Barefaced Midget and an Ashdown Mini15. I have recently had the ribbon cables and valve out to clean, so this amp sounds great. There are plenty of EQ controls to allow you to get the sound you want. There is a review of this amp on Basschat: http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 Front view: Rear view: The amp will come in a sleeve and old laptop bag and the two switch footswitch. I am not including a TRS cable for the footswitch and a IEC C13 mains lead as these are very common. Any questions please ask.
4. +1 for Paul Wolfe +1 for Scott Devine I have signed up and used them for a while. In terms of YouTube I would call out for great mention Brian Wroten, I learned Tumbling Dice (not a Bill Wyman bass line): https://youtu.be/rdhsfVyF1Iw Though someone will say that this is not a tutorial but a transcription! Still very useful with the playing and the score provided.
5. Got my ticket for Manchester. The week before we see ZZ Top.
6. Saturday was my first gig with an established band - a 4 piece covers band. So I'd worked over a few weeks to get their set list up to speed. We only had had just a couple of rehearsals, when I find out that some songs I thought were under my belt, turned out they had some different arrangements. One rehearsal was mucking about with the new Behringer X AIR XR18 which after somehow getting the monitor mix into the main mix was sorted. Anyway, small pub/hotel in Windermere, where they found out that a) the landlord wasn't present they had to set up in a different part of the pub, which was smaller and had a bit of a walkway through it. We set up and got sound checked quickly then started on set 1 at the usual 21:15 after finding out that we had to finish at 23:00! If we'd been told that when we came in we would have started earlier. So it was down to chopping songs out of the set list, a very short break and a reduced set 2. I was glad I'd not taken my second cab, as the parking is tricky as well as the space. Still good to be able to hear myself. The audience was receptive but small, and the pub wasn't full by any means. But we got some great comments back. I was pretty much on the money except for a couple of fluffs which even my missus hadn't noticed. I only had to resort to notes for the 8 songs in 1 medley! Onwards and upwards!
7. Aye - I'll try to get some rustled up!
8. After some pondering and then spending more than a few hours at Promenade Music, Morecambe I picked out the Lakland Hollowbody - yes the Skyline (ie Korean made) but with a gorgeous warm sound and Gary had strung it with flats. It lost out to several others. It was second had and came with a hard case. Marvellous and lovely.
9. Is this still available?
10. Just bought the Ampeg SCR-DI for the following reasons:

Wanted a backup for a gig to the backline
Wanted a simple rehearsal set up
Wanted battery power option
Wanted a robust
Would like headphone out
Would like AUX in
The SCR-DI ticked these boxes for me, I was tempted by the LeBass - but I don't really need the distortion - in a gig situation I will have my full pedalboard (with Source Audio MWBD). I really wanted battery power as an option, so the Eden WTDI and many others was out - even though the prices of the Eden (£75) almost made it. I thought the EBS looked and sounded good but nearly £100 more than the SCR-DI. Was tempted by MXR Bass Pre Amp but too limited in functionality. I have had a quick play through it and it will suit me, I won't go to the extremes of the Drive setting. Some of the tones out of it are fine. As I usually have a Carvin BX with much more EQ control, it will be fine. But it will go in a pocket in the gig bag for tonight's rehearsal with a XLR cable and into the desk.
11. Oh how timely is this. Just been to see The Australian Pink Floyd Show for the second year running. Now for some history, my first ever purchased album was Meddle. I remember buying Wish You Were Here the day it came out. Carefully slitting the black plastic cover to preserve the all black for as long as possible. I saw Pink Floyd in 1974. They did Echoes as the encore! So it's hard to choose. I feel that the neglected albums like More, Atom Heart Mother and Obscured By Clouds have some gems. Also have love for Animals. I suppose I'm in album mode rather than individual tracks. I do so like Careful with that Axe Eugene - especially the Live At Pompeii version.
12. Since leaving my first band, which I co-founded, at the end of 2015. The new year's Eve gig was my last. It's been a longer road than expected to get to a first gig with a new band. So Minnie and the Coopers are playing at a private party on Saturday 22nd Oct. We've got a good couple of sets of covers (14 and 20 songs) and not a single Beatles number, or Mustang Sally in it at all. Saying that, I confess we do have All Right Now, Get It On and Teenage Dirtbag. We are a 4 piece: Female vocal and guitarist; guitarist, drummer and me on bass and some backing vocals. That's more the new role for me. Our lead vocalist has brought a number of great songs - there are three Pretenders, three Police, a couple of Blondie and a P!nk song. I'll be using my fretless for a single song already retuned for Eb/Ab/Db/Gb - Black Velvet, otherwise it'll be the 4-string. Looking forward to playing, but more worried about the organisers getting the marquee set up, power, heating, flooring as well difficult to load in and out.
13. Interesting replies. I am out in the sticks so the "dog and duck" crowd get what they get. We're not very metro out here. Just thinking that a re-work of Empire State Human [Human League] might be fun as a 4-piece drums, bass, 2xguitars and vocal.
14. I know this is a little off-topic but I wonder why I have never seen anything about cover bands for electronic music, Stuff like Kraftwerk, Human League (early stuff especially), OMD, etc. Any thoughts?
15. Status Quo for the first time at Windermere on 18 of June
16. If you are happy that you just play your bass and hear on headphones what you are playing then I suppose that the VOX amplug + headphones or the VOX headphones with built-in amplug would be OK. However, reading more into the scenario than actually stated, then if you want to play with backing tracks, listen and transcribe, play against recordings then you would be better off with something like a iPhone/iPad with headphones and a Line6 Sonic Port. It can do all of that and much more, even using GarageBand you can make recordings of your playing. Add in modelling amps like JamUp you can get bass FX, different bass amp combos as well as pitch shift, change tempo, make recordings etc. If you stuck with the iPhone/iPad ear buds then the Sonic Port is pretty much ready. I have actually used it in rehearsals, outputting my playing to either a PA or just a powered speaker and hearing myself on 'phones.
17. Well Iots in my list have already been mentioned, but I'd add: The Lord of the Rings by Bo Hansson - yes it is based strongly on the books - but still a concept album Radio-Activity, ComputerWorld, Tour de France - Kraftwerk Animals - Pink Floyd
18. The Witch Queen of New Orleans - Redbone Living on the Ceiling - Blancmange Though with 2 singles but only 1 album (?) Landscape
19.
If you use IEMs they would plug in to an auxillary output, so you'd either be cabled or you'd use a standard transmitter/reciever system. I don't know of any system that would work with bluetooth headsets. Maybe somebody else knows more than I do about this though.
There are different wireless technologies: the wireless tablet/smartphone to desk is using WiFi. The Bluetooth headset is a different wireless. Most wireless IEM use another set of wireless technologies. None of the desks mentioned have Bluetooth, so on that basis I'd say no you could not just use a Bluetooth headset. I also recall that the latency for Bluetooth is greater than what is usually used for wireless IEMs. And latency, i.e. that time delay between sound creation and hearing will be a big issue for IEMs.
20.
Yep, I am slowly working towards minimising my possessions... honest. And incidentally, I'd love to be able to get into 35" waist jeans. Or even 36" waist jeans. Or even 40" waist jeans. Anyway buying jeans is 'retail therapy' I just have a loin-cloth made out of an old tea towel and stay in a lot.
Are you in Ted Nugent's band?
21. Alain, I have a BB425x and you could always have a go with it.
22. Music also for me, I've listened and love a lot of instrumental stuff. I also love a great, interesting sound - hence my special liking for electronic stuff like Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, etc.
23. From my recent lessons, I'd ask "Is anyone retired and going to spend too many weeks away in prime gigging season and prevent anyone from depping for them?" Harrumph.
24. Had a great night on Saturday. From song 3 in the first set the dance space was populated. Our first Christmas song (Slade's Merry Christmas Everybody) seemed to turn into a big co-ordinated dance and then the last song went down a storm - I'd printed off lyrics for all to join in Fairytale of New York so we had a huge sing-a-long. The extra lighting was lovely but the attempt to have some smoke in set 2 brought the organiser up to say that a couple of people had asthma and didn't want the smoke. So that was the end of that - just got enough out to create a haze effect. This was a penultimate gig the band, so just NYE to go. A bit of video from an action cam on my headstock - sorry about the sound quality - the tiny mic in the cam is just not up to it: https://www.facebook.com/vinceasmith/videos/10154385323703776/
