1. This is a four-string passive bass, metallic black with matching headstock; TRC and a couple of screws missing. The trussrod turns smoothly. It needs rewiring; when I first had it the pups worked but one of the tone controls did nothing. I took the electrics cover plate off and looked at the roller pot assembly; they are mounted on a frame which can be removed - it looks to me as if they are normal pots mounted sideways. Now it makes almost no noise, so I suspect I've stretched a wire somewhere. Maverick was a UK-based company, now folded. The back of the neck has a deep scratch running to the scarf joint. I am pretty sure it is a scratch, not a crack. I've tried to photograph it. The neck has its share of minor dents. The bass has dents and scars; it ought to be refinished, probably. I nabbed this off eBay because I was curious about the controls and fancied a project, but I haven't got time to do anything with it and I need the space. £60 plus carriage. 2. Looks good (though I do like the "original" colour).
3. I'm very surprised this hasn't sold. Good luck!
4. Oh they sound great (though the output on mine's a bit weedy). I'd like to defret one
5. Thanks, folks. I've not done it before, and it's not been clear from the descriptions I've found. I intend to do this: - make myself a sanding block by taping sandpaper to the board and using it to shape the block. - glue the veneer and cut it back carefully with a razor blade, paying attention to the grain of the veneer while doing it. - sand, using the block, if necessary and as little as possible. - save the dust to fill the places where the board has splintered. Filing the nut I am reasonably happy with. I have files which will work.
6. Another one for the clearout. This is a Korean-made Shine copy of the G+L ASAT four-string tele-style bass. I believe it's a Shine model 724, but nothing on it gives the model number. It would make a nice starter, backup or project, but it's quite giggable in its own right IMO. Passive four-string, decently made; quite playable, with a nice range of tones. Body and headstock are high-gloss varnish; neck is satin. Nut is 42mm wide. Controls are a pickup selector switch (front-both-rear), and knobs (V-V-T). There is a little neck dive, but nothing a wide strap won't deal with. (Wide strap thrown in if desired.) There's a bump on the back of the body about 3mm wide which has cracked the varnish; I've tried to take a picture of it. Pics are here: https://postimg.org/gallery/nddi86tw/ £120 plus carriage; includes a cheapo gigbag.
7. I'm defretting a bass, and I'm wondering if I need to sand down the fingerboard before I put veneer in the fret slots. Is it normal to need to sand the board down before filling the slots? The board is rosewood. Thanks
8.
I would definitely not use acetone on anything foamy.
Could I ask why not, please? Just curious. Thanks
9. Vox Standard. That's twice what it should be priced at. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vox-Standard-Bass-Guitar-Made-in-Japan-1980s-Matsumoku-Dimarzio-/262641077237?hash=item3d26a0cbf5:g:1IAAAOSwMtxXvxsC
10. On hold. Bow is still available - I will post it separately when I can.
11. Took a moment but it's come up.
12. Nice. I like the colour as well.
13. Up you go. I might put up the pink Westfield with an extra P pup soon.
14. Some interest, but still here.
15. I don't even like aged-white basses, and I'm off fives... but that is proper lovely
16.
There's a really beautiful painting of that bass in someone's attic somewhere...
17. Somebody can't spell "phoenix". Not a good sign, IMO - lack of attention to detail is seldom a good thing for an instrument.
18. Pretty Good luck with your sale!
19. I've gigged the Sonderberg PJ and the red no-name J-style I got from here. Cost £130 between them, IIRC. But I don't gig often enough for this to count, probably.
20. Are you taking a statin? Mine give me some pain from time to time.
21.
hi would you post to dublin
At buyer's cost, sure.
