1. I agree, mostly, but the curled carving for the top horn and the burned layering in the wood rather contradict each other. That would annoy me after a month or two, I reckon.
2.
And earplugs.
For the cow?
3. That's a bit more like it. Anything under £200 would be a bargain IMO. Edit: For a bass in good nick. £265 is a bit over the odds given the lack of active circuit.
4. Not my idea of fun. Apart from anything else, I don't think it is going to be comfortable to play sitting down.
5. "No case"... I think I guessed that! I like the shape.
6.
It's a hypothetical situation.
... until, having discussed it, he uses it as an excuse to do it...
7. I think so. Build is good, comfortable, plays well, sounds good. Not everyone likes the headless, of course. I sold mine because I wasn't playing it, but that's because I have far too many basses.
8. Cheap CAR Jazz-alike in Germany... ... ending tomorrow, so if you're really curious now is the time to think about it http://www.ebay.co.u...coAAOSwqrtWm4Br
9. Active circuitry may be suspect. Seller will not ship. Less than a day to go, £63... surely must go for more than that! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hohner-The-Jack-Headless-Active-Bass-/161956444747?hash=item25b55b3a4b:g:2eYAAOSwqYBWo6vi
10. I've got one, five or six years old. It's definitely not a toy. The build quality is pretty good for the money, but there's a buzz which is probably bad earthing on one of the pups. The E string was very flabby out of the box; I changed it which improved it somewhat, but it's still a bit soggy. I don't gig much so it hasn't been on stage. It needs a bit of looking at, IMO, but I would gig it. I'm thinking about restringing it ADGC, which would sort the E string and shouldn't be a major hindrance. Edit: The new strings are for a 30". They're fine.
11. I have a Rail, which I love, and an Alien, which I'm going to sell, and a Duke, which I'm going to sell. The B2A has a stuck or dead trussrod and is up for spares or repair. I've never played the Alien outside the house, but the Duke definitely has tuning problems. Maybe it's faulty?
12. Screwdrivers, batteries, leads, mics. Paracetamol, sticking plasters. Extension lead. My own personal medication.
13.
Isn't there a 6-string with four fretted strings and the D and G strings repeated as fretless? So it's E A D G D G with the bottom four fretted.
Yes, that's the Ashula. I should have explained its layout earlier.
14. Thanks Jon. The truss rod is the only major issue, IMO. It does turn, but no more than 90 degrees in either direction and it's very "sticky". I don't trust it at all. Shame, because the bass makes a nice noise.
15. Hohner B2A For parts or repair. Bad stuff: - The trussrod is not usable. It turns about a quarter turn, very jerkily. Someone with skills and equipment may be able to fix it. If you are happy with a fairly high action (4mm at 12th fret), it might be usable as is, but in the longer term it will need fixing. - The usual dents and scratches, one of which goes through to the wood. The plastic thumbrest has been removed but does come with it. - The electrics have been completely revised and are now passive-only. The preamp is not installed; a blank module is in place. I will enclose a replacement which should work (though I've never tried it). The battery/electrics compartment door is missing, but at present this is not an issue. The electrics can be crackly but some switch cleaner should sort this out. I have no idea about the DI jack, I've never attempted it. The 6mm jack was said to be loose when I got it, but I've never found any problem with it. - One of the electrics cover screws ought to be replaced. - The gig bag is a Rockbag and is actually too big for it. It's in decent nick. Pics here: http://s1295.photobu...k?sort=3&page=1 The pickups work. The tuners work, a bit stiffly. The electrics can be a bit crackly when adjusted. The switch in the front I think must have been passive/active, because it's now passive/silent (with occasional hums). £75 shipped.
16. Too much cymbal for my liking.
17. Is the headstock supposed to be like that? It looks as if it's been modified.
18. I liked the birdfish. Not the Tesla; the neck's too short.
19. Fives are handy for low notes, but the real point of them, to me, is having to move less often. But I'm one of those people who doesn't get on with wide necks, so I'm steadily moving my fives on.
