1.
The logical thing to do would be to install one using side LED dots on a neck. Octave dots = in tune. Either side sharp or flat. It all sounds so easy.
Brilliant! Someone really ought to do this.
2. Through a convoluted route I got hold of this recently. Now I am GASsing for a fretted one to go with it... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/265853-yamaha-bex-4-fretless-now-sold/page__p__2834886__hl__bex__fromsearch__1#entry2834886
3. Nor me, but I don't know Fender history. A 1958 P-bass would originally have had a two-saddle BBOT, I think. Does it look like a 1958 P?
4. Rectangular, definitely. Wooden, probably.
5. I looked at these and was put off by the relicing, not being a fan of such things. Shallow of me, perhaps.
6. Or, for that matter, recommend me a book. I can still read, I think...
7. In (loose) order of influence on me: Jah Wobble Bruce Thomas Mick Karn Segs Barry Adamson Philip Moxham Graham Lewis Tina Weymouth Bruce Foxton Jean-Jacques Burnel Steve Severin Sting
8. I hesitate to say, but... does rebooting the machine make a difference? The format change seems as if it can't tell what device is logged in.
9. I bought one or two a while back. One turned out to be too wide for what I wanted (too late to send back by the time I noticed).
10.
The Overwater Tanglewoods (or Overwood Tanglewaters?) seem to go for incredibly reasonable 2ndhand prices.
And (as if there was any doubt) they are very good. I've never had a fretted Yamaha BB (except the one with a maxed TR) but the fretless is very nice.
11. Look carefully, the prices are in BGP. That is, not £. I suspect someone is trying it on. Anyone who replies will spend their first couple of minutes arguing about the ridiculousness and almost anything else will seem sensible by comparison. And if they price in BGP, I'd guess they can legally say "but that's obviously not UK currency! How can it be illegal?".
12. hi folks I am curious about how a hard case is put together (I want to put a custom lining in a case for a project). The case will be wooden and rectangular. I'm expecting to remove the lining from an existing case and reline it. I'd like to know what I'm going to do before starting Can anyone enlighten me? I'm a little reluctant to start ripping one apart, at least from a position of ignorance. Any info gratefully received Edit for clarity
13. Ditto. Nice to see praise as well as (justified!) slaggings-off.
14.
...and stick a tuner pedal between your bass and your amp head (and thread it through the cab handle)...
Good idea - I need to do this. Also, commiserations to AntLockyer :/
15. I played cello as a teenager, so the low end felt like home. My mate wanted a bass player; it felt like a fit; I thought I'd try it. Edit: Also my dad played double bass.
16. I have one, bought from Evil Undead of this parish. It's tuned (as I have it) BEAD and the only issue I have with it (apart from not playing it enough) is that the bottom bout is so thin it's unpleasant to rest on your leg for any length of time.
17. I can't say enough bad things about "A Spaceman Came Travelling". It on its own is enough to put me off C. de B. for ever. I like some carols a lot. 'Adam Lay Ybounden', in particular, is fantastic. (Edit: the Boris Ord version.) Edit: And the 'Coventry Carol'.
18.
You've clearly never visited Lidl on a Thursday, it's like Black Friday except it's not black and, err, not Friday
That seems to cover the available options well
