1. Being sold hastily before Hampshire breaks its moorings due to high vibration levels...
2.
All the posts about getting him to listen to how crap he sounds are making the assumption that he will think it sounds as crap as everyone else does. The fact that he continues to use his particular sound would unfortunately tend to indicate that he's quite happy with it.
True. But actually knowing that is a big step towards sorting it out - one way or another.
3.
A possible solution. Guitar amps are more directional than bass amps and unless he has a decent amp stand his amp will be pointing at his knees. This means he will only be hearing the bass from his amp and not the screetchy high notes. He is probably eq'ing so it sounds good where he is standing and he is turning up so he can hear clearly when well off the axis of the speaker. Explain politely you think this may be happening and ask him to lean the amp back at rehearsals so his ears are in line with the speaker axis. If he balances the sound then it should sound better for everyone. Then he needs to get a stand so the speakers are pointing straight at his ears at gigs too. I've used this tactic successfully more than once.
Possible alternative way to the same end: Buy/lend him a wireless rig, so he can go walkabout, and find out how crap he sounds for himself.
4.
It's a 1 not a 1A (passive not active).
Corrected, thanks. I don't quite know how I managed not to read the item title...
5.
Elyse Weinberg , a strange folky kind of offering that i got from my sisters collection on the basis that she never heard it again I think it is superb
https://www.youtube....h?v=QQu6IpZ7PLc Trying to think what it reminds me of. I will have to find out more. Thanks

9. Not my usual listening, but I liked it.
10. Thank you, folks, this sort of thing is what makes BC such a great place
11. I think it was Low, who, when they had people talking across them at their gigs, turned the volume down...
12. I like the "satin" finish. Much nicer than shiny.
13. Roadstar 850, replaced tuners. Liverpool. £120 BIN. Seems cheap. Possibly suspiciously cheap. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ibanez-roadstar-rb850-bass-/121791106979?hash=item1c5b50cfa3:g:2hQAAOSw~bFWI7bL
14. Stevie was kind enough to let me have his table saw. A gentleman, and a credit to the site. Thank you!
15. Bumping this old thread: I found the issue. The board is much more badly worn than I first thought, to the point where it should be replaced or reshot. The bass will have to go, because neither of those options is cost-effective. Thanks to all for your help and interest.
16.
Looking at the interests in your avatar, I see you're in a field where there are two sides that butt heads regularly; that must be tough. I'm also guessing that witch burning is possibly ecologically unsound, so I retract the comment
It's also unsightly, foul-smelling and woefully inhumane. Just think of all those black cats suddenly rendered homeless... Work-wise, people have a tendency to shoot the messenger. So far as having too many basses, I maintain that more than 50 is too many. Especially given my lack of space and cash.
17. Definitely better, to my ear (though this isn't my genre). The drums are better for being louder. The middle eight is better but still sounds rather disjointed to me. I like the last third, a definite improvement, to my ear.
