1. It looks pretty battered but most of that looks cosmetic. I can't tell what the marks on the fingerboard might be - possibly tape to learn positions? I think the bow might need re-hairing It's got to be worth a punt at £50, surely. At least if you know what you're doing.
2. That might be someone who wants a very specific position for their thumb, so they've put the thumbrest in exactly the right place.
3. I preferred the pre-1952 ones.
4. That looks great. Really clean and functional, without being soulless. Nice
5. Nothing. But I really enjoyed 'Late Junction' earlier on, I'll be off to the iPlayer for that tomorrow.
6. Ibanez SRFF805, one bid of £239 so far, four days to go. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ibanez-SRFF805-5-String-Bass-/351587683999?hash=item51dc424e9f:g:uYoAAOSwf-VWVJOc
7. Here's one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/INIFINITY-6-STRING-FRETTLESS-BASS-GUITAR-/321922308431?hash=item4af410994f:g:rZUAAOSwEgVWSc79 If I played sixes, this might look interesting.
8. In fact, I might
9. You can get one from Thomann for £90 or so... https://www.gumtree....itar/1143540952 http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hot_rod_5_bass.htm
10. Change the strings first. If that doesn't fix it, then go to a guitar tech or luthier.
11.
Picked up the bass this afternoon, and here's a pic.
Looks lovely - review please
12.
Yep
Too far, sorry... GLWTS anyway.
13. Seems strange to me.
14. Shocking-pink hair-metal sparkly abominations
15. Re PayPal: You can find the PayPal fee calculation on their site. So it's not too hard to do that calculation, then add that amount to the actual price. This has the advantage that you are actually covered by PayPal's T+C if the deal goes sour - you are not if the payment is a "gift".
16.
Hoping to go into the annals of fame with this one. All sorts of solutions from thick straps to hanging weights onto the bass but none work without problems. Playing the other day, wishing I could get the sound without the dive, when I looked down and thought 'if only I had a third point to attach the strap to the body of the bass' (where the lower part of the strap emerges from behind the body). I looked across at my skinny string and the light bulb went off. I removed the capo, clipped the strap to the Tbirds beautiful but flawed body and hey presto! The out of body experience of a Tbird I didn't have to struggle with. No more twisting in my hands and no neck dive at all. with the business end of the capo being the only bit showing it didn't look too bad either. I'm sure I can work out a better clip but the T'bird is going to get a lot more use now. you can thank me later
Let me see if I have this right: You're using an open-end lever-type capo to clip the strap to the upper point of the Tbird body, behind your right elbow. I think that must be right. But pics would really help
17. Money for old rope?
18. I've only ever bought Status Hotwires online. Also, for Sensual World, consider a capo at the first fret?
19.
It sounds to me that you have made a silk purse from a mixed bag. If you'll be kind and ignore the metaphorical confusion of that statement.
A silk purse from a sow's neck?
20. Well, kudos - looks like a result may ensue
21. Very very strange. Not in a bad way, I hasten to add! I guess you could play it with a bow, or a stick as Claypool does. Good luck with your sale
22. It does look fantastic How wide is the nut?
23. That name isn't going to do them any favours when they get searched for... almost as bad as being called The The.
24. A painless, swift and complete recovery to you
25. Same guys took me to see a group called Staa Marx about the same time. They should have been famous.
