We used to rehearse without microphones. That made sure everyone kept their volume down. For the OP: It's not worth throwing away your hearing. Leave this band (and the other one with a deafening drummer).

I'm not after it because I've got one already (now wearing half-rounds and tuned from Eb) and I've got too many basses.
