1. Not really my thing (I'm not very metal at all, and I don't like the colour), but the headstock is elegant and the whole thing looks well done.
2. Lovely. Understated, but really classy. And, as usual, way out of my reach and competence. Bah, humbug
3.
It's a very complicated area! I hope I didn't come across as a know-it-all Not my intention at all
Absolutely not
4.
I've not read the link Dad posted but I suspect it's bang on the money. Anyway, this bit of what you said caught my attention: Copyright is automatic. As soon as you create something original (photograph, painting, song) you own the copyright to it. I believe the tricky part comes with trying to prove that you own that copyright if contested. Back to the topic though, I'd have thought that yes, the BBC would indeed need to seek permission before using someone's original work. I'd look into it if I were him as there may be some compensation due perhaps? Worth reading up on at least just in case!
Okay, thank you. I stand corrected.
5.
Might be more complex than that, otherwise YouTube would own the rights to most of the music in the world.
That's why I said "original thing", by which I meant stuff posted without prior copyright. Edit: Having read (some of) the link provided by Dad3353 (thanks ), it's obvious I was wrong in detail and more or less correct in fact. They can distribute anything of yours you put there as they please, but they are not liable for it.
6. I'm pretty sure that if you post some original thing on YouTube, YouTube owns the rights to it.
7. Original owner learned to play while obese, then lost lots of weight but couldn't adapt their style?
8. Not very. When I was in a band we used to practise without microphone quite a lot. Kept us from volume wars.
9. I'd go with ergonomics, personally. I do like that stealthy scratchplate
10. The only really good-looking Fender, IMO. :ducks and covers:
11. The pup is a bit weedy, which I always find surprising. Sound-wise it's a P-bass with a bit more twang and authority, at least to my ear. It weighs a lot, BTW.
12. This http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vox-Standard-bass-3504-in-great-condition-complete-with-original-Vox-bag-/181692708861?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a4dbab7fd is probably £50 overpriced, but if you like big chunky necks these are fine. (I don't, and mine is not for sale!)
13. If you can find a Peavey Foundation, they seem to go for about £170. Lovely lovely basses.
14.
Where are you based? Huw
He's in Tavistock, in Devon. (I assume you're on a mobile? Well-known BC issue, member titles are not visible on mobiles.)
15.
I just thought it bizarre that on pages 1, 2 and 3 they extolling the virtue and importance of music education, then page 4 they basically state what they think by mentioning the decreasing budgets.
They think it's a good thing, so they're restricting it to those who can pay for it. Like lots of other stuff. Private education and private health care, to name but two.
16. Are you playing stuff you like with it?
17.
My other sub-£200 bargain buy recently was a Danelectro Longhorn. Uber-cool querky looks - not everybodies cup of tea perhaps - and an amazing range of tones. Featherlight and shortscale, I could comfortably play it for hours on end! There's a passable Jazz bass sound waiting to come out but also a rather unique Danelectro tone in the sweet spot that I just love. I gigged with it on Friday for the first time and, unusually, had people come up to me afterwards asking about it.
Whoa, you got a Longhorn for less than £200?! Congratulations! :jealous:
18.
The Dennis Wick ones are great, well designed and not too expensive. My main B-trom mute has been all around the world and never had a problem!
Excellent. Thank you very much
19.
I don't understand how the Bass Collection logo and the rest of the print on the control cavity cover have rubbed off but not the white sticker on it. My Bass Collection is bashed to hell but the print on the pickups and cover are still there.
This is why I suggested a non-Japanese build. I have one like this, and it's quite clear that the electrics cover has never been printed.
