1. Thanks to you all. I'll go look in the Recording Forum
2. Nice work. Not to do with lurksalot, but I think someone should go listen to "Seeing It as You Really Are", off the first Hawkwind album. I'm sure that's about a train journey
3.
There is a downside to that. If he cracks and accepts the offer, one of you will end up owning it!
Careful courier selection should allow the buyer to avoid that possibility
4. The problem with an acoustic instrument is that bashes and bumps may damage the soundbox, and they might also reduce the strength of the instrument. Double basses are glued together; anything which cracks the glue... you can wind up with a pile of splinters. (I know this because I own a cello. It still works but it's been pegged and glued, and glued, and glued )
5.
Just got tracking info for my new PB-20 6.22kg that's nearly a stone in old money... Is that an average weight for a bass? the JB-75 was 5kg, for some reason I thought the P bass would be lighter.
That will be with the packaging (I hope!). I'd guess the P will be about the same weight as the J. 5kg is maybe a touch above average? It's not unusual.
6.
Ta very much; that's encouraging..! It's easier in winter-time, what with the nights being longer an' all..! I have to give what's left of a brain a rest between entries, though; it's necessary to clear the ears before taking on the next one. Still, at a pace of one or two a day; I'll get 'em all done in time (I hope..! )
Completely agree with Mornats
7.
I don't suppose you'd care to elaborate on that, would you..? Any aspect in particular..? Is it any different to hearing stuff on the radio..? Just curious, that's all, and intrigued, as, for my part, they have rather the opposite, stimulating effect. To each his own, of course; we're all different.
It just emphasises how far I have to go, and how little I understand. I think the difference between this and the radio is that the radio insulates; those guys out there aren't real people, in some way. The BC members are. A few years ago, when social media was a new thing, I was talking online to someone in San Francisco, and I had the same reaction then; SF isn't a real place to me, somehow.
8.
I'll also throw in the parts from a GS422 B so you can switch between a dual stand and a tripe stand for no extra charge
Typo
9.
Nice looking bass! But what an odd pickup position.
Like a Vox Standard. Not conventional positioning, but it seems to work well
10. Nice paint, horrible shape... IMO.
11. The problem with listening to these is that I find it completely demoralising... :|
12. I nabbed Alan's bitsa Westone. And that makes four times we've dealt... which should tell its own story. Nice guy, all went well, and I'd happily trade again. Thanks Alan
13. Interesting... How does that work acoustically? I don't get it.
14. That's perverse enough to be cool.
15. I like it. It has a Shergold-ish look, somehow.
16. I bought Eddie's TGI hard case. Thoroughly nice guy, all went well, and I am happy, apart from being jealous of his writing talent
17. Not sure about this. It looks overpriced to me, even given that they are rare and sought-after. Also, I'm not sure that there isn't a crack in the back of the neck, exactly where the end of the trussrod would bear. If I was bidding I'd want another pic; the fourth one here is not reassuring, to me. 18. I reckon that lower horn digs in something fierce... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wild-Rose-Music-Custom-Electric-Bass-Guitar-with-Active-Pickups-/261776500586?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3cf318676a
19. Sorry to see him go. (Never knew he was Welsh.)
20.
I would recommend, in any case, to adopt a 'worst case scenario' attitude and take precautions such that, if there's a total loss of service (virus, house fire, burglary, whatever...) any and all of your information (software and their 'keys', projects and files etc; most especially anything unique that can't be bought...) is stored very regularly somewhere safe (off-site..? Cloud..?...) 'Ghosted' partitions, back-up software, regular duplicating to another medium... If none of these precautions are actually invoked, it will be because there's been no 'incident'. One can be sure, though, that if there is no back-up plan, an incident will be very troublesome. This, independent of platform, OS, or such. It's all too often neglected. Just sayin'.
This. Make backups, folks. Really.
