1.
Yes, for that price I would expect to do some finishing tweaking, which I don't mind doing myself. But in what way do you find the controls tacky? To look at, or in operation?
A bit of both. One of the knobs was loose (not properly secured, so you were always turning it against the pot rather than against the body), and another was mounted off true (not perpendicular). Quality was about what you'd expect at that price and at that time. This would be four or five years ago, mind - they may well have improved a lot since then. I sold it to my boss a couple of years ago, and he hasn't fired me yet, so it can't have been that bad
 2.
I'm going for one of these Harley Bentons in the New Year, since the general consensus on Basschat seems to be that with HB you get a lot (relatively) for little outlay: http://www.thomann.d...sive_series.htm
You may have to file the nut if you're going for the fretless. The one I bought needed it (but it was good otherwise, apart from the tacky controls).
 3. I live in northern Poole (Canford Heath) and work in eastern Bournemouth (Boscombe). I'm not sure it qualifies as big-city; they are separate entities and have never been a single unit (Bournemouth was in Hampshire till the 1974 local govt reorganisation). Each has its own bus company, for instance (Yellow Buses in Bournemouth; Wilts and Dorset in Poole). The place can seem like a bit of a backwater. Tourist traffic is an issue; Purbeck is overrun with cars from Easter to late September, and Weymouth is probably worse, but I'm sure you're well used to that. I don't know what the Bournemouth schools are like; Poole is selective (and the two grammar schools are single-sex), and Dorset is a separate LEA again. My son went to local first and middle schools on Canford Heath (Ad Astra and Haymoor) and they were fine, but that's a long time ago (he's 21 now). Be careful about which catchment you move into.
 4. I've a Yamaha RBX200F I'd sell; four-string, single P-style pup, black with a lined rosewood board. £100 is about right. I'll take pics if you like.
 5. Welcome aboard (Assuming discreet hasn't put you off, bless him )
 6. This seems to be a lot of money for a no-name neck which looks like a Fender. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jazz-Bass-Neck-Like-Fender-Fully-Loaded-/301423522195?ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:GB:3160
 7.
Saw this while looking at that - albeit randomly - wasn't everything complicated before the microchip?? 8.
When wondering whether wood would work well (well, within one's world...), we watch while wags waffle, wise words waft wayward which, without wit, waste wind whilst we wistfully wait, warmed when one witnesses wagers weaken. We won't want wars wantonly waged, would we..?
While witty, wilful word-wrangling wastes worthwhile wisdom. W, wait...
 9.
Can't believe their still here, I want these, someone lend me £120 In the meantime have a bump
Thanks

 11. The Wilkes is pretty rare IIUC. Do we know why?
 12.
They're all keepers for the first few days. Then you turn around & there's 30 of the bloody things... J.
This...
 13.
The line up for the "Houses of the Holy Festival" at the Southbank over Christmas is taking shape. Expected to perform are The Christians, Judas Priest, The Sikhers, The Communards, Elvin Bishop, The Rocking Vicars, Madonna, Charlotte Church, Peter, Paul and Mary, Peter Gabriel, Genesis and Josef K. A single "God only Knows" backed by "Church of the Poisoned Mind" is available on Buddah Records
Josef K may not be able to play, depending on how the court case goes.
 14. ... or it might be a Grind, which IIRC are passive. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/E-Bass-Darlin-195-/271660442189?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_77&hash=item3f4039624d Brand and model is 'Darlin 195'.
 15.
I've never heard of anyone getting a "bad" Ibanez at any price point, and they do feel wonderful to play! It's a shame they don't do many passive models these days, at least not that I've seen.
Nor me. More passives, please, Ibanez!
 16.
Herbie Flowers has a brother called Spicie Vegetables
And a cousin called Mouldie Bread.
 17. Damn it... broke as usual.
 18.
Very uncommon bass, there are a couple of people on here who own them, & I'm one of 'em. These are from about 1980, basically a funny-looking Jazz with a P-shaped neck. This one looks pretty scabby, all the hardware's been changed and I'd expect the electronics too. There's no real way of guaging value (mine cost £60 about 5 years ago) but I think this is a little bit optimistic! My (reversibly hotrodded) one: j.
Thanks Jon - a fount of interesting info as usual.
 19. Never heard of these. Kawai Sleekline, £185 BIN: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rare-Kawai-Sleekline-bass-/161507871168?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item259a9e89c0
 20.
I will own these!!
I'm pleased to hear it
 21. Obviously when he said "eye catching" he meant "a danger to the drummer's eyesight" ...
