1.
Aren't nylon tapewounds just a normal metal flat or roundwound string with a nylon out outer wrap?
Must be, because they work with magnetic pickups So yes they will work with an eBow, in theory. The nylon wrap might damp them a lot though.
2. oooh... skint as usual, and this is way outside my league, people would assume I could play it Good luck with the sale
3.
Do you bend the strings at all? That can cause hollow spots irrespective of string choice. Hopefully that'll get you out of jail. I always slacken the truss about 1/4 to 1/2 a turn & up the action a tad after a re-shoot as my playing style isn't very compatible with a super-scary low action. The Gallery are currently charging £80 for a re-shoot which I view as part of the fun of owning a fretless. I'll probably have to put mine in sometime next year for a skim which will make it 3 years since it was last done. It's my main bass, I use Rotosound Pressurewounds & don't have a light touch, so that works out as roughly the same as a set of new strings per year of use. I regard the expense as an acceptable cost vs the results. If you use flats, only play it occasionally, and don't hammer it the interval ought to be a lot higher. You're still applying steel to rosewood though & that's going to cause wear sooner or later. The other thing is how accurately it was shot in at the factory. Most mass-produced fretted instruments benefit from a level, crown & polish and to my mind a fretless is no different. P.
Points taken and info gratefully received, thank you. I'll experiment this weekend, with a bit of luck, and post the results here.
4. Mark bought my battered OLPs. Excellent comms, quick payment, no problems at all. A pleasure to do business with. Thanks Mark
5. Thank you folks, much appreciated. The board does have a slight dent at the next position up - I'd say it's never had rounds on it, but it might have had a lot of use with flats. So maybe that's it. I will try weights on the headstock and tweaking the trussrod. Reshooting the board sounds expensive and probably not cost-effective
6.
Not exactly crap. I have a white one which isn't in too good shape. Ibanez Axstar bass: http://www.ebay.co.u...E:SS:SS:US:1120
Available via BC, it seems: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/249333-ibanez-axb-60-axstar-headless-bass-rare-and-active-model/
7.
The extra holes look to be factory original: http://www.westone.i...cats/81/07.html I wonder if they're to secure the preamp circuit. The first run Aria SB-1000s have a similar feature - two c/sunk bolts that fit through the lugs on the BB casing.
Thank you. That's what happens when I post late at night without doing my research...
8. I have a Yamaha RBX200F factory fretless, bought used here a couple of years ago. It's a bit worn, but it's light, comfortable neck, sounds nice and plays well. It's wearing flats - not sure of make, they have blue silks. But I can't make it do anything but mwah at the fifth fret position on the A string; almost a metallic rattle. It's not related to the amp or pup, because it does it unplugged as well. I've messed about with the action a bit (mostly by raising it), but without any obvious change. The same sort of sound does happen elsewhere on the board, but not as much. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? Thanks
9. US-made Peavey; I've the impression they are scarce this side of the Atlantic. The seller hasn't managed to check his spelling, so some searches will miss it. Given the mark on the fingerboard where the E-string is missing, I think it might be absolutely filthy. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bass-Guitar-Peave-Dyna-/271707340652?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3f4304ff6c
10. Westone Thunder 2a, not that far from me. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Westone-Thunder-2a-4-String-Bass-/291325178027?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item43d45570ab It looks as if it's had two extra screws added to the cavity cover. I might ask for info.
11. Pics will greatly increase your chance of a sale. Your best bet is to host them on a site like Photobucket and put a link to them.
12. That angular lower horn is a feature of GS basses I've seen advertised. I've never seen one in the wood.

I have a Prosebass fretless. It's lovely
14.
Yes, for that price I would expect to do some finishing tweaking, which I don't mind doing myself. But in what way do you find the controls tacky? To look at, or in operation?
A bit of both. One of the knobs was loose (not properly secured, so you were always turning it against the pot rather than against the body), and another was mounted off true (not perpendicular). Quality was about what you'd expect at that price and at that time. This would be four or five years ago, mind - they may well have improved a lot since then. I sold it to my boss a couple of years ago, and he hasn't fired me yet, so it can't have been that bad
15.
I'm going for one of these Harley Bentons in the New Year, since the general consensus on Basschat seems to be that with HB you get a lot (relatively) for little outlay: http://www.thomann.d...sive_series.htm
You may have to file the nut if you're going for the fretless. The one I bought needed it (but it was good otherwise, apart from the tacky controls).
16. I live in northern Poole (Canford Heath) and work in eastern Bournemouth (Boscombe). I'm not sure it qualifies as big-city; they are separate entities and have never been a single unit (Bournemouth was in Hampshire till the 1974 local govt reorganisation). Each has its own bus company, for instance (Yellow Buses in Bournemouth; Wilts and Dorset in Poole). The place can seem like a bit of a backwater. Tourist traffic is an issue; Purbeck is overrun with cars from Easter to late September, and Weymouth is probably worse, but I'm sure you're well used to that. I don't know what the Bournemouth schools are like; Poole is selective (and the two grammar schools are single-sex), and Dorset is a separate LEA again. My son went to local first and middle schools on Canford Heath (Ad Astra and Haymoor) and they were fine, but that's a long time ago (he's 21 now). Be careful about which catchment you move into.
17. I've a Yamaha RBX200F I'd sell; four-string, single P-style pup, black with a lined rosewood board. £100 is about right. I'll take pics if you like.
18. Welcome aboard (Assuming discreet hasn't put you off, bless him )
19. This seems to be a lot of money for a no-name neck which looks like a Fender. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jazz-Bass-Neck-Like-Fender-Fully-Loaded-/301423522195?ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:GB:3160
20. Pretty bass Skint me
21.
Saw this while looking at that - albeit randomly - wasn't everything complicated before the microchip?? 22.
When wondering whether wood would work well (well, within one's world...), we watch while wags waffle, wise words waft wayward which, without wit, waste wind whilst we wistfully wait, warmed when one witnesses wagers weaken. We won't want wars wantonly waged, would we..?
While witty, wilful word-wrangling wastes worthwhile wisdom. W, wait...
23.
Can't believe their still here, I want these, someone lend me £120 In the meantime have a bump
Thanks
24. Blimey, a Fender which looks pretty... ! Shame I'm skint. Good luck with it
