1. Is it the tuner size or the tuner quality that's the problem?
2. One other question: Are you certain there's enough wood in the headstock to do this? Sorry to ask, but I'd be really sorry if it went badly wrong and I hadn't...
3. Professional carpenter/cabinet-maker? They would know how, and probably wouldn't charge the earth. Exeter has docks... there will be boat repair shops. (Is there still a museum of boats there?) Is there a woodwork evening class you could get to? That should have access to proper workshop-sized power tools.
4. I'd guess you'd be better off in the Repairs and Technical section? I'm guessing that if you want to go to 14mm diameter pegs then you will struggle with a hand drill, whether you've got a drill press or not. What sizes are you starting from and trying to get to?
5.
A little bump for an interesting virtually brand new bass! Do you think it would be wrong/cheeky to post this in the EUB/Upright marketplace too?
I think it would be a bit cheeky, myself. Perhaps that's just me though.
6. There is usually one of these for sale on eBay somewhere. I wouldn't own one if you paid me, personally.
7. Ouch... Thanks mate, appreciated.
8.
They're for making a time-honoured gesture at the Conservative Party Conference.
That would be quite reckless.
9. well, if it goes for about £40 then I suppose the buyer might be able to break for parts. Maybe.
10. Mismatched tuners...
11. IIUC they are fine as starter basses or as projects. But I don't know, I'm not a fan of the P neck.
12. The lower horn does make them look sort of Jag-hybrid.
13. Mint looks nice. I also like black or grey marble.
14. Hohner Rockwood.

Traded

Still broke... free bump
16. I've played one of these, briefly. Well made, played well, sounded good to me, mint. I was put off by the fact that the seller had advertised it as something else and wanted £300 for it, and that I couldn't find any details whatever on them when I searched online. I still think it was overpriced, but I would happily have paid £200 for it if I'd trusted the seller. This one has more scars, but if I was new to fives it should be a decent starter (assuming it's the same as the one I tried).
17.
It needs a neck pickup of some sort.
At that price it would make a fairly low-risk project.
18.
Refurbished. Apparently.
Typo. He meant "Defurbished".
19.
Thanks guys, i'm Cambridgshire based so would prefer something as local to that as possible! I've had one quote and I didnt realise how expensive it was going to be!!
Spill
20. ^this I have too many of them. Even my Milestone III is good value for money
21.
Anyone else notice how ahead bass players are socially, communication. I've always noticed the dry pan humour which most bass players share. There isn't much egotists amongst us. And that is definitely something to be proud of when you are playing music.
This ^ I'm not a great fan of the Rolling Stones, but the thing I always liked about the video footage I saw of them was Charlie and Bill just quietly grinning at each other, just getting on with it, while the rest ponced about up front
22. Sounds as if you've done the right thing and done it well. Good for you
23. My main bass is the no-name CAR J-style I got from Mr Foxen for £80 plus postage. It's done me very well.
24. Just acquired an FJB-6 (J-style) from BCist green_alsatian via eBay. Lovely Did they do a P-J?
