1. More straplocks. All good, and I'd be pleased to deal with Col again. Thanks
2. I have some straplocks which were sold to me (second-hand) as Schallers, look very much like Schallers, but are not compatible with actual Schaller locks. Chrome. Good condition. I don't know what make they actually are. If you need straplocks but only have one bass and one strap, they would be useful. Otherwise, not so much. PMs please.
3. I'd much rather not use drop D. I go with two basses, one in the standard EADG and one tuned down a tone DGCF. Most of what we do I could do on either, but we've got a couple of songs which need the open E and one which needs the low D - perils of a singer with limited range. I ought to try the five-string, I guess.
4. confused... isn't this a bass guitar?
5. I have an Ibanez GSRM-20. Nice little bass, well made, sounds good. Also, Kala make a little electric-style bass ukelele which might suit (BC member bobpalt was selling one a little while back).
6.
Still available?
You'd be better off sending him a PM.
7. Shame I don't like the colour. Ah well... bump on me.
8. I have a Telecaster-style Retrovibe bass. (Actually, I have the Telecaster-style Retrovibe bass.) Big surprise, it dives like a Premier League striker, because the upper strap button is opposite the15th fret. I experimented with a bag of weights hung on the lower button. It helped, but I gave up when 3lb wasn't enough. So, I want a custom neck plate (not a scratchplate!) for it. I want it to extend behind the neck so that the strap can attach behind the 12th fret. Is there anyone here who can make me one, or can recommend someone who will make one? Thanks!
9. I have a matt black Epiphone Thunderbird passive 4-string bolt-on I'm not using. It had a few mods when I got it (from BC member Delberthot): strap-button moved to the heel of the neck, upgraded electronics ( I can't recall exactly what they are - Russian capacitors, I think), and blue LEDs on the top edge of the fingerboard, good for playing on dark stages. The pickups are labelled 'DEEP Sixx', I guess they came off a Nikki Sixx Blackbird. I've added a plain white scratchplate and black T/R coverplate (custom made by The Bass Doc). It comes with a decent RokSak gigbag (which actually fits) and a strap which Delberthot extended to handle the new strap button position. I'd be happy to include the old plates as well, if I can find them - which I do not guarantee. I think the old t/r plate has "Gibson" on it. Assessment: The tuners are good, bridge adjustment works, electrics are good, there's very minor buzz when you plug it in but nothing you haven't heard from dozens of other basses. I cannot swear hand on heart that the trussrod works, because I've never tried to adjust it, but I've no reason to think it a problem. There are no dings as far as I can see. There are very minor scratches and scuffs; the worst wear is on the bridge, where the black paint has come away on the three-point screws, and on one of the pup, where the name is somewhat worn off. There is a hole where the upper strap button was before it was moved. The end of the LED set is sharp (above the 20th fret). The neck pocket has been widened slightly (by maybe a millimetre) where another neck has been fitted and removed, and the short edges of the neck pocket are sharp as a result; I tried to take pics of this and couldn't. It is entirely stable as far as I can tell. The add-on LEDs can be temperamental to get going but once they're on they stay on. It would benefit from a setup (I tuned it down a tone to DGCF briefly and haven't lowered the action again - though it's not high). Pics here: http://s1295.photobu...d?sort=3&page=1 £140 plus shipping. I'd prefer to ship with the neck removed. Bank transfer preferred.
10. I bought David's friend Gerry's Retrovibe Vantage 4. Excellent comms (despite Gerry being on holiday... , efficient and conscientious. Highly recommended Thanks David
11. Interesting to read the comment about using a longbow bag. "[Seller] use/recommend a recurve longbow bag available for around $35 at any archery supply outlet, or right here on Ebay- The brand name on mine is 'NEET' which is apparently an industry standard.. They offer the same protection, and ease of transport as a 'real' bag, but at 1/4 the cost."
12. I'm going for the Westone Rail, for production-line basses. I hae no idea about the top-end stuff, but for me that comes down to which piece of wood has the nicest grain; which is in the eye of the beholder.
