1. Parkinson's is horrible; my dad had it. I wish the patient well. But I still expected a voice saying "So, Doctor, will I be able to play after my operation?" ...
2. It has a Heavy Rock Bottom! What more could you ask? ... other than a truss to lift it, and a taste bypass. Both available on the NHS, I'm told.
3. Welcome! Leen2112 is dead right about the marketplace (That was my recommendation, by the way. Haven't had a chance to use the mike yet, but we'll see
4. Yup. It's a shame the seller hasn't learned some logic.
5. Thank you. Good point about the reverse extension; I doubt it will be a major problem, but it will be interesting to find out. My understanding is that a single plate would cost a lot, certainly by comparison with the bass it's meant for. I'm also considering a hand-made involving a steel bar, a drill, a countersink, and a couple of longer screws, plus a spray can of Hammerite. It would be fun to do, I reckon.
6. I see no reason to buy or publicly discuss R*rs. I was intending to gig a bass with a curious body shape soon, though. It has two soapbar-style pickups and a Fender-copy headstock. Perhaps I will reconsider. I see no reason to support Mr Hall in any way whatever; including publicising his company's designs by showing the punters similar stuff. I think I'll stick it in the attic; it might be worth more after R*r have gone bust.
7.
... When I was at college Freddie Mercury died and the next day when I walked through the halls of residence Radio Gaga was blasting out of every other room. Nobody had ever mentioned Queen at college before and the whole thing just didn't sit right with me. ...
I'm still hoping Cliff Richard will outlive me...
8. Radio 3. Opera, possibly Mozart.
9. RIP Ray. The Doors changed my life, many years ago. (Don't forget Doug Lubahn's bass work, mind. They asked him to join, IIRC, and he turned them down...)
10. Looked at that, decided that I didn't fancy the ex deciding he wanted it back.
11. Wow. That design is definitely channelling the assault rifle. Way out of my budget, but good luck with your sale
12. what's the neck like?
13.
Just a straight strip of metal bolted over existing one, using existing bolts, corner to corner so its diagonal. Minimal shaping, two holes drilling and countersinking that way.
Excellent idea, and I don't know why I didn't ask you first; but there must be a change to the effect of the bolts if you reduce the depth of their penetration into the body (oo-er missus!). Would matchsticking the existing holes be enough? Edit: never mind, I'll try it anyway and see how it works
14. what is this "Eurovision" you speak of?
15. I use two to gig, for tuning reasons; at the moment I don't take a spare. Also I keep a fretted bass with flats on it. None of them is the fretless bitsa I put together, which I will never sell - though I suppose I might give it away. I have a few unique basses (none of them worth much) which I'd be very reluctant to sell.
16. Many thanks to all I'll update if there is anything to say.
17. I think it's probably a Gothic Thunderbird, but TBH I can't remember. Bump anyway...
18. More straplocks. All good, and I'd be pleased to deal with Col again. Thanks
19. I have some straplocks which were sold to me (second-hand) as Schallers, look very much like Schallers, but are not compatible with actual Schaller locks. Chrome. Good condition. I don't know what make they actually are. If you need straplocks but only have one bass and one strap, they would be useful. Otherwise, not so much. PMs please.
20. I'd much rather not use drop D. I go with two basses, one in the standard EADG and one tuned down a tone DGCF. Most of what we do I could do on either, but we've got a couple of songs which need the open E and one which needs the low D - perils of a singer with limited range. I ought to try the five-string, I guess.
