1. for me the real reason for fives is that you've got two octaves under your hand, with only a small shift. For some of the stuff I played in my previous band, I tuned the five up three semitones, D G C F Bb. Gave me a blues 7th under the low E. I'm still not sure that was a good idea, but it gave a lot of heft to E or Em tunes.
 2. Dreams are strange. One of my colleagues had one which involved me coming out to her. Hmm.
 3.
C'mon guys, this is just getting silly. Does the OP have his stuff yet?
Nope, but I'm enjoying the OT discussion
 4.
I completely agree
And so do I, especially at the moment
 5. Suggest you edit your initial post so that the price drop is visible at the start of the thread
 6.
..and not panic into judgement and harsh sanctions. Thanks to our Mods.
+1. I'm grateful for their help and reassured by their efforts.
 7. Today was a bit tricky. I went to band practice this evening, and confirmed my impression that I can't sing worth a damn, and can't play fretless either. (Bits of it were good, which is something Also I am in dispute with someone here who has my money and hasn't sent me the bass I bought off him . Moderators are involved, and I'm very grateful to them. Thread here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/198147-how-long-should-i-wait-before-i-start-asking-for-moderator-help/
 8.
I almost never look at the Gigs section. I will start.
Having had a look, it would help if the thread titles were a little more informative... "XYZ band on tour" doesn't tell me much, especially if I have never heard of XYZ band. Neither does "XYZ band is playing at the Copperbottom Club on 43rd December" help, if I don't know which county the Copperbottom Club is in...
 9.
I did consider starting an offshoot of the fish puns theme to cover marine mammals, but thankfully realised in time that it wouldn't serve any useful porpoise.
I'm glad. Otherwise I'd have to withdraw my seal of approval from this thread. Anything else would be otterly pointless.
 10. I will be leaving feedback, believe me.
 11.
what have the mods said? Have you chatted to any locals to him on here too? You say the fella's been one here for at least 3 years, you've traded before... look at his feedback thread and start contacting other folk he's traded with, one of them may have phone number/address for him. Email him via his paypal address! That would be more useful than starting this thread! you don't know if he gets it true.. but if you PMed me on Basschat the only way I would know is if I came onto basschat. You email me and my phone starts blinking at me....
Johngh is investigating. Thanks for the point about people's methods of notification. FWIW, the "seller" has been on BC at least three times in the last week, but has not looked at the PM thread since the 19th.
 12. I almost never look at the Gigs section. I will start.
 13.
Aaargh, the fish jokes again!!!
The fish jokes back?
 14.
Which plaice would you rather be?
Dover, but I'm quite hard of herring.
 15.
I tend to use bank transfer, is there any protection in doing it though? Also never been swindled on here, infact I've never had a transaction take much thinking about at all
So do I, and I don't think there is. I don't know (yet) what's happened, but this is the first time I've had a transaction here go bad in this sort of way.
 16.
So, did you call him? (I wonder if he's read this thread yet?)
No, I haven't got a phone number for him (nor have I usually had one when I've traded here). I could email him via his PayPal address, I suppose, but I have no way of knowing how often that gets used. (I don't know if he's read this thread, but I have PMed him that it exists.)
 17. Gift, naturally. I'd never used PayPal before becoming a BC member, and it seems to be the normal method here. I am suitably educated :| The seller has been a BC member longer than I have, and I've dealt with him before (for a much smaller item).
 18.
That's very understanding of you, but the fact that 12 days after the purchase you had corrrspondence but no bass is a worry. Of course I don't know the content of the mesage, but presuming you paid by paypal for a sale you might only have 30 days in which to open a dispute. I'd bear that in mind. I hope you get sorted.
Thank you, that's a good point
 19. Might be a good buy for someone near there: http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show/106747655
 20.
Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I don't think there's anything a moderator can do to help. I think the T's and C's clearly state BC is not responsible. Did you use paypal or anything else that might have offered you some protection?
I paid via PayPal, but at this stage I'd rather know the seller is OK than just assume he's a chancer.
 21. When you've bought a bass here, and paid the money, how long is it reasonable to wait for something to happen? A week? Two weeks? I won't name the seller, at this stage. But he's had the money since 7th January, and I've had one apologetic PM (on the 19th) and nothing since.
 22. I bought an Ibanez Ergodyne from Craig, and it was badly damaged in transit. He refunded me within 12 hours of being notified of the problem. You really can't ask for more than that. Good man.
