Maybe the other two screws are shorter and someone has had the neck off and put them in the wrong places.
I like the way you think, sir.

Okay, this is probably a n00b question, but I figure I'd rather be corrected by the members of a technically-knowledgeable forum than by some bloke in a guitar shop Recently I bought a Vox Custom four-string from a member here. I've had some difficulty with it because it only works with one of my leads. After some experimenting, I can now tell which leads won't work when I plug them in - the socket on the bass seems to pop the plug back out a touch (maybe half a millimetre). The one lead which works is a 6.35mm jack, mono. As far as I can tell it's the same shape as all the others. I've looked carefully at it and the other leads, and I can't see any difference in shape. I got it second-hand with another bass, so I have no idea whether there is anything exotic about it. I'm a tad uneasy about this, because it seems to contradict everything I know about plugging the thing in, and because I've only got one lead which works. The only thing I can think of which might explain this is that if I solo the P-pup, one of the switches on the bass lets me select the upper half of the pup, the lower half of the pup, or both. (That is, the top two strings, the bottom two strings, or all four.) That sounds as if it might be some sort of "stereo" selector, which I gather Rick basses can do (never played one, no idea). Can anyone suggest what's going on, please? All advice gratefully received
It plays quite strangely really. The neck feels like the thinnest I've ever played, but actually measures 40mm at the nut. When you pick it up the E string side of the neck feels quite flat-ish - if it was a more upmarket manufacturer you'd probably say it was an 'asymetrical' neck . Having said that, it's actually really comfortable to play with a nice action. It was tuned to fifths, 120 - 30 strings when I bought it and it handled that without any problems - I actually left it like that for a while. Biggest bugbear for me is the fact that the bridge is positioned closer to the pickups than you'd usually expect on a bass - it's more like a guitar in that respect. As a result the bass is the size you'd expect on a full scale bass, despite it being short scale, so the neck is moved to the left. I found it a bit tricky hitting the right notes when changing position, something you get used to but it has put me off using it live. Probably should spend some more practice time with it. Ed Friedland has had one of these for years - he calls it the Fabulous Egmond!
Wow. Sounds like a strange beast, especially the way it was strung. Sadly, I've been corrupted by bass guitars and cannot now play my cello if it's tuned in fifths... my left hand just won't do fifths any more.

Title edited for accuracy What's it like to play, if I may ask?

I've recently got my cello back in working order after many years, but the walls are thin at home and I can't run it through headphones as I do with bass guitars. So, I'm thinking about an electric cello. Budget is not large - say £250 maximum. Can anyone comment on the electric cellos out there? Any experiences would be welcome. thanks Mike

I bought a cello tailpiece from Alastair. A seamless transaction; all as advertised, good communications, prompt posting, well packaged. I'd have no hesitation in dealing with him again. thanks Mike

Many thanks for this - I've got to my 50s without trashing my back, and this good advice should help with staying that way.

Everyone knows about T-40s. But the T-45 is new to me (on account of being ignorant). Anyone know what they're like? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEAVEY-T-45-VINTAGE-USA-BASS-GUITAR-MAPLE-NECK-SUNBURST-T45-T60-30-AMERICAN-/221014210210?pt=Guitar&hash=item33757936a2

Bought an EBow Plus from Faiz. All went well despite my having to get my bank password reset half way through. Good communications including volunteering the tracking number. I'd be happy to trade with Faiz again. Thanks!
