1. Interesting how little visual change there is in the waveform on the different settings. Also the psychological difference. That's worth remembering, IMO, because I think it comes up all over the place - notably in the media (and advertising, whether it calls itself that or not). It definitely looks best with the white 'plate.
I had one of those a few years ago, the only acoustic bass I regret selling.
Did you keep a note of the serial number, by any chance? It would be nice to get some idea of the number Peavey made.
3. Agree with Dave. Their influence is huge. No Beatles, different world.
4. I'm not allowed alcohol for medical reasons. I wouldn't want my strings to make me ill.
5. I don't mind the carry handle. But everything else... it's possible to do this sort of thing well, but that isn't it.
6. Would have been, but too far. Thanks anyway
7. Guessing that the bass has been detuned for the photos?
8. Thanks all - some useful suggestions there, much appreciated. Now to convince the others...
9.
Judging by all the mixed comments, I think it's definitely a MARMITE bass!!!
If your Marmite's that colour I wouldn't eat it if I was you
10.
Well done, that one had been gnawing away at me for months! I have recently discovered a way round my injuries to allow me to play a modified finger style, so my pick playing days may well be numbered. Then I will discover whether the 'birds are any good played that way.
Glad to hear it.
11. Oooh. Does he do a fretless five?
12.
As my better half reminds me, plural of anecdote is not data, but for what it's worth I have seen a number of Ibanez's with finish cracks around that area and no obvious detriment. I guess it may be to do with finishes / thin neck joints used? My '91 RG is holding up tune and tone perfectly despite similar visuals..... though this is clearly case specific and I have no way of knowing anything about the bass in question without seeing it in person
Fair point My experience with neck pocket cracks like that is that they are not restricted to the finish, and I should have said so in my earlier post. But I've not seen one on an Ibanez, so perhaps I'm being overly cautious.
Sorry for carping on... but I think the original OP should get on his pike and fix this thread, otherwise fins could get a shoal lot worse !
I don't know whether this thread should really be resurrected. I mean, it's been quiet for dace and dace.
14. I've been avoiding looking at this one just in case I have a rush of blood from my wallet, but TBH I'm trying to concentrate on fives at the moment. But I'm really surprised nobody's even looking at it. It's a beauty Good luck with your sale!
15. I'd be wary of the neck-pocket cracks, personally. Maybe no big deal, but I'd leave that to someone who actually knows.
16. Thomann's Harley Benton basses are generally recommended at the entry level. Not tried one myself, but under £150 delivered... https://www.thomann.de/gb/fretless_basses.html?oa=pra

18. I can see the pics. Firefox on Ubuntu.
19. I sold Mike some CDs. No issues whatever, happy to trade with him again. Cheers Mike
20. It would be interesting to know the tonewoods used in the shovel.
21.
I seem to have to press quite hard but yes, the overtones disappear
That wasn't quite what I meant. If you damp the string behind the nut with something stuffed under the string (sponge? bit of balsa? cigarette filter?), what happens then?
22. Yeah, been noticing that one. Not buying though - I think someone else ought to have a chance at one occasionally
