1. Blimey. I've a defretted fiver, bargain at nearly three times that. Keep your eyes open, he might not have sold it
2. If you damped the string behind the nut, does that make a difference?
3. Avoid the silicone Fender Ashbory strings, they snap if you think about beer (or cheese, or elephants) within fifty feet of the thing. I haven't tried the Thunderguts on a fretted ubass (they are on my Ashbory though). I have tried Pahoehoe polyurethanes; they are quite acceptable, at least to me. They do take a little while to settle down, but after that they last for years.
4. Gah. I'm not going to be at my computer tomorrow evening. Nothing I can do about it either. Bah, humbug... I suppose I could bid anyway. Can't hurt.
5. Okay, I had a measure of a Kinsman hard case I use. I think this will JUST fit those dimensions. The waist seems very tight, maybe too tight, and the overall length seems too long (about 127cm). Depth should JUST be OK, so long as the neck isn't too deep. Hopefully this will help.
6. Excellent. Thank you, gentlemen. I'm definitely not expecting to get it at anything near that price, but you never know...
7. I'm looking at one of these, not far from me, via ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bass-Guitar-Godin-A5-Fretless/172898866777?hash=item2841935659%3Ag%3A1xkAAOSw0BdZ0Rob Does anyone have an opinion about these? Reviews, recommendations? I've been thinking about a Spectorcore 5 fretless for a little while, but this might be the dog's. Or not.
8. Indeed. I can't afford vanity instruments, and the whole "because it's traditional" thing just brings me out in a rash. I'd rather spend the money on something useful, like a pension.
9. Not properly double-blind, so you can't rule out the player knowing what he's playing having an effect. That's hard to do though. For me the second bass was warmer and fuller, but not much (and I couldn't hear any difference in the slap). I liked the Fender colour combo and I'm sure it's better built and finished. But TBH on that evidence I'd not even consider it as an option - largely because of the TR adjustment.
10. Far too many bass guitars, including a bizarre triple-neck with six strings (total). No, I don't know what it's for either. Also an Ashbory, and an upright I never play.
11.
You wear a hard hat on stage? You must have the same rigging crew as Marilyn Manson.
Village People tribute act.
12. Dimensions? I could do a bit of measuring.
13. It's that time of year again... We've been asked to gig a retirement home this December. I am [s]a curmudgeon[/s] not keen on saccharine pap, and I've avoided Christmas songs for many years. At the moment the setlist includes Wham's 'Last Christmas', 'Stop The Cavalry' (if I can persuade the singer), and that thing Greg Lake did in the 70s - which I like much more than I thought I would. So, any more suggestions for the setlist? Ta!
14.
What if it's an electric double bass? Can I get away without the hat?
Then you're allowed to have a mullet instead.
15.
In the States we have a Federal Law. No twerking if your over 40. We enforce this law with a hefty fine, community service and in some extreme twerking judgements, jail time. Blue
16.
But why is it an A string every time?
If I read you right, it's happened twice. So if it's coincidence, there's a 1 in 4 chance of it being the same the second time. Not horribly unlikely.
17.
Robby Krieger.
Good call.
18.
I can't see the pics!
I can. Firefox on Ubuntu Linux.
