1. I'd be wary of the neck-pocket cracks, personally. Maybe no big deal, but I'd leave that to someone who actually knows.
2. Thomann's Harley Benton basses are generally recommended at the entry level. Not tried one myself, but under £150 delivered... https://www.thomann.de/gb/fretless_basses.html?oa=pra
3. I can't hear it as music, personally.
4. Keepers, IMO.
5. Pics not publicly available - needs sign-in.
6. I can see the pics. Firefox on Ubuntu.
7. I sold Mike some CDs. No issues whatever, happy to trade with him again. Cheers Mike
8. It would be interesting to know the tonewoods used in the shovel.
9.
I seem to have to press quite hard but yes, the overtones disappear
That wasn't quite what I meant. If you damp the string behind the nut with something stuffed under the string (sponge? bit of balsa? cigarette filter?), what happens then?
10. Yeah, been noticing that one. Not buying though - I think someone else ought to have a chance at one occasionally
11. Blimey. I've a defretted fiver, bargain at nearly three times that. Keep your eyes open, he might not have sold it
12. If you damped the string behind the nut, does that make a difference?
13. I've put a snipe in. We'll see.
14. Avoid the silicone Fender Ashbory strings, they snap if you think about beer (or cheese, or elephants) within fifty feet of the thing. I haven't tried the Thunderguts on a fretted ubass (they are on my Ashbory though). I have tried Pahoehoe polyurethanes; they are quite acceptable, at least to me. They do take a little while to settle down, but after that they last for years.
15. Gah. I'm not going to be at my computer tomorrow evening. Nothing I can do about it either. Bah, humbug... I suppose I could bid anyway. Can't hurt.
16. Okay, I had a measure of a Kinsman hard case I use. I think this will JUST fit those dimensions. The waist seems very tight, maybe too tight, and the overall length seems too long (about 127cm). Depth should JUST be OK, so long as the neck isn't too deep. Hopefully this will help.
17. Excellent. Thank you, gentlemen. I'm definitely not expecting to get it at anything near that price, but you never know...
18. I'm looking at one of these, not far from me, via ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bass-Guitar-Godin-A5-Fretless/172898866777?hash=item2841935659%3Ag%3A1xkAAOSw0BdZ0Rob Does anyone have an opinion about these? Reviews, recommendations? I've been thinking about a Spectorcore 5 fretless for a little while, but this might be the dog's. Or not.
19. Indeed. I can't afford vanity instruments, and the whole "because it's traditional" thing just brings me out in a rash. I'd rather spend the money on something useful, like a pension.
20. Not properly double-blind, so you can't rule out the player knowing what he's playing having an effect. That's hard to do though. For me the second bass was warmer and fuller, but not much (and I couldn't hear any difference in the slap). I liked the Fender colour combo and I'm sure it's better built and finished. But TBH on that evidence I'd not even consider it as an option - largely because of the TR adjustment.
21. Far too many bass guitars, including a bizarre triple-neck with six strings (total). No, I don't know what it's for either. Also an Ashbory, and an upright I never play.
22.
You wear a hard hat on stage? You must have the same rigging crew as Marilyn Manson.
Village People tribute act.
23. Dimensions? I could do a bit of measuring.
