When it's really fun, you get the buzz and so does the audience, people dancing and having a good time. Not too hard a load in or out, some pay for your trouble, a decent stage and pa, good sound, the list can go on.
I think some NYXL's and Elixrs are on my list to try.
Been using the bass centre Elites and Stadiums, been very good value I get 8-9 months out of a set of them. Still 2 packs to go lol.
I have one of those
I must of been lucky so far and not regretted any yet. (close is the Wal pro I exchanged for a Warwick custom build back in the 80's, but went on to use the Warwick for another 15 years.
Normally I have exchanged for another bass and not just funds.
Yes, very nice basses, love the playability, I have had 2 but couldn't get them to work for me, always fiddling with the controls. Not sure why as when I have listened back to any live stuff they have sounded nice
Enjoy the bass.
A bot off-topic, but most songs I have tried to write for bands I have been in they have always said that sounds just like the 80's
Still not sure if that is a good or bad thing lol. Stuck in a bit of a rut I guess.
Some great tunes, definitely my era
Don't forget the 2 tone movement was also in full swing by then.
I caught the Beat live on Sunday, still sounding good.
Sometimes there can also be a bit of a volume drop, blending Pups. No big un but it can be there.
I thought for a while I was missing out not having a PJ, but having used one for a while I went back to the old P bass. (maybe listening to too much Norman Blockheads time )
I'd be a little careful about that. When I had my MK1 built I asked Paul to try cut down on weight and he mentioned that it's harder on the MK1's before the balance and sound is effected. He ended up using the lightest core wood he thought would give the best results. Also the more modern MK 1's are made with slightly lighter tuners, it all counts. The MK2 and 3's can be made a lot lighter he said.
I haven't weighed my Wal, but it's no heavier than your average Fender and I don't mean some of the 70's versions. Definitely no boat anchor.
So that is worth checking out as well.
Yes, I had an Enfield for a while with the Simms pickups, they are lightweight and play nicely, one thing I didn't like about mine was that the batteries would go pretty quickly (within 2 months for me with a fair bit of playing) not a huge problem but it bugged me.
I will say this, I mainly played Wal's exclusively throughout 80's, chopped and changed after that (mainly Warwick and later on Fenders) but have just recently gone back to a Wal
Don't flog it!
I don't think anything can replace the Wal.. The good old P bass can get the job done as well and you wouldn't have to spend a fortune to get a decent one.
I like these kinds of post's, can't add much more except to say basses are a wonderful thing, just liike a beautiful woman they will always catch your eye. You don't always have to try take them home
I had problems with the only set I tried as well. buzzing sound on a Stingray and also on a passive P. Liked the feel but not the buzz. I think it was the coating that caused the problem.
I have only noticed a gradual drop-off before. (only been playing 40 odd years )
Had new strings dead out of the box and new strings that won't intonate before.
