Pretty much any Ibanez, the necks just feel wrong to me
Crikey, they are fast becoming my favourite basses, the old 80's and 90's jobs
-
For me it was a Warwick Star bass, sitting down no problem, but standing up and with a strap I just couldn't get on with the strap pin location, so used to it being on the horn! A 5'er as well, l I tried but didn't persist. Stingrays I like but can never stop fiddling with the on -board eq and drive myself nuts, so tend to avoid them in a band situation.
Incidentally, what's the difference between the Classic 50's and the Classic 50's Lacquer...is it purely as simple as the paint finish...?
Yes, I think it's just the nitro finish. Don't rule out the roadworns as well same breed but a little more select, if you don't mind the relicing

Very nice, I have a roadworn P from the same family I think, stays strung with flats. I still wonder from time 2 time about the pickguard but as yet the gold one is still on it.
Much as I like my Jazz basses, the Precisions get taken out far more often, in fact in recent years, I've only gigged a J when I feel it needs to taken out or moved on.
That's exactly it for me as well, in fact I moved my J on. Prefer the feel of P sized necks.
Nice bass, did it come without the pick guard or did you remove it? I have an amberburst which my son likes so much he has more or less nicked it... Mine is on the heavy side!
Thanks, they are nice, had a chance to gig mine a couple of times now. The previous owner had put a wooden pick guard on it when he sent it to me, I didn't like it so took it off. He has since found and sent me the original black one which I have now put on. I'm blown away by how good these are for not much money!

Age 16/17 - 1978 Location: School youthclub disco Bass: some cheap Kay bass I bought for £5. Amp: no idea Set List: Pretty Vacant, God save the Queen and White Riot. (a few times each) lol.

If anyone is interested how it sounds in a mix, here it is from live practice last night, not the greatest playing but maybe you'll get the idea. https://www.dropbox.com/s/x7tbsetkfpkdzru/Don%27t%20let%20me%20down%20new.mp3?dl=0
I think this pretty much sums it up, serious issue with that amp.
Agree. I still use my TH 500 everyweek through a 4 ohms - 212 and the loud knob never goes much past 9'0'clock or just on with fairly loud drummer guitar and keys.
And if you want to know what they sound like, don't watch this review...
lol, that has sold me on this bass

I'm starting to get a thing for these old Ibanez basses, after picking up a fretless Musician recently. and having had a Blazer Roadster back in the day. These ones seem to be either loved or hated I got it for a bit of homeplay or maybe I'll take it as a stand-by, or to the seedier places we play. This a 1995 model with the FC starting serial, partly made in Japan and assembled in Korea from what I can find out, maybe some experts out there? It's not at all heavy which is contrary to a lot of the reviews I saw about these. Nice surprise as I bought it un-seen. For some reason these seem to be associated with starter basses, there is still some decent quality in construction and playability with these. Me likey I wasn't looking to replace a Ray as I have had a few of those in the past and didn't really get on. And all I need now is to get a black-pickguard frome somewhere? Guitar Players Who Don't Get Their Due Respect
Highfox replied to Yank's topic in General Discussion
I immediately thought of John McGeoch (Magazine, Siouxsie and the Banshees, PIL, etc) - very well thought of amoungst musicians but pretty much unknown to the rest of the world, which is a real crime as he was definitely one of the most talented and influential guitarists of his time.
Yes I thought of him to and possible Keith Levene and James Honey-man Scott from the Pretenders. I personaly like those kind of guitarists that put a few layers to the music. -
I've done it, but didn't really like it.
-
Now found, thanks! Hi. It's a 1995 model. Anyone know where I might be able to pick one of these up or get one made? Not looking for anything fancy just a black plastic guard. Thanks.

Roman did a great job with our demo and definately going to use him again.
From experience, the Cort basses sound nothing like a Musicman (even my Bongo isn't that close to a Stingray). The closest i've had is an Ibanez ATK, it's killer.
I was going to mention the ATK's, but never having played one I wasn't sure.

Very nice. Classic! I also recently swapped out a 69/70 P I had, but kept my 72/73 as it sounded better and also seemed to have more variation in tone as you mention.
Is this something you do regularly, and if so how do you use it to improve the music? It follows on from my thread 'Playing with Pros'. The ex-pro I recently worked with recorded everything, then sent me the tracks over the internet. I found it interesting, but it led to more heat than light in the end. I'm just trying to work out if it's a concept I should try in the future, never having done it before. Views most welcome...
I do it a lot, I find it helps a lot in hearing back what's working and what isn't, especially when working on new material. Also helps me erradicate some mistakes and sloppyness.. The others find it useful as well.

Basshead's wall of shame - including some filthy 70's Porn
Highfox replied to basshead56's topic in Gear Gallery
Very nice. That Goth EUB must come out for special occasions. -
Yes he was a real on-off in all departments. I often ask my guitarist to do a bit of Chuck in the rock and roll type stuff we do and he never does. Maybe cop a bit of ZZ Top that's about it.
Hmmm, I don't need it but will probably get one to try it at some point
It gets it up close to ear level and even at low volumes it seems to fill the space nicely. I have mine like that at the practice space and whenever we get a gig with a decent size stage or outdoors I'll take it along.
So I got to use my 500 in anger for the first time on the weekend at a wedding gig. Wow. Everything I couldn't hear at modest volumes came alive when it was cranked. Just an incredibly powerful, ballsy sound with spades of definition, headroom (for me with FoH support) & yes, heft, in comparison with my Genz rig at least. With the bass at 9pm to tame the boom & treble just to the right my Jazz sounded fantastic all night. Didn't play with the voicings on the amp but used the bass's passive tone control & plucking positions for different sounds & everything sounded authentic. I was surprised at just how 'modern' this box can sound if that's your thing...when I set up & switched on I my bass was in active mode, so razor-sharp was the tone, real bitey hi-fi stuff. Turns out I was in passive mode & it was just the horn engaged on the amp. Something for everyone here. The fact that it practically floated out of the car & back in at load was the cherry on the cake So I've now fallen in love with this powerful little combo & wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who's looking for something light, loud & capable of great tones with minimal faffing with controls.
Great! For even more goodness stick the 210 extension cab under it
