Norman's was a 74 I think. When he tried my 69-70 P he asked me if I was going to put Jazz pickup on it , like he did with his P Bass

Anyone else go slap-fest when they put on new strings?
I allways do it, it's a fun way to give them that first stretch so they settle in tune
Yep. As a bit of an update I don't think I'm a fan of steels anymore. First time I have tried them again for a few years, so it will be back to Nickel's for me on roundwounds. -
Nope - I use flats!
Same applies for me when I stick new flats on -
For me it was listening to Toto's Rosanna. I remember saying to my dad "it sounds like the bass burping" in the section right after the line "meet you all the way"
That's very tasteful. -
I do. But then I always do. I love slap. Or tasty finger style with the occasional pop. Since using Elixirs though I don't get the 'new string feeling' because the strings last forever. They always sound brilliant.
Those are on my radar to try. These Bass centre elites have been on here a year and a half and I'd guess over 100 hours of playing on this bass. Clangy Dunlop Steels now Think the slap thing comes of being in awe of mark King back in my early formative days of bass playing and the coverage he gave bass players back then. -
Generally I'll pop and slap very rarely when playing live, here and there a bit. But stick some new strings on at home and I can't stop! sure I'm not alone with this? Drives the Mrs bonkers the clank clank
Looks good. Ive worked on a few of these and would say that generally, they are of decent quality, let down a bit by the electronics. I was going to say it's an easy upgrade but actually it's quite a fiddly job.
Cheers Gary. I think for my ambition on guitar it might just stay as is.

Swapped out my old Tele and got one of these Epiphone Casino's for Jamimg. Pretty good values, decent fit and finish and woods on them. Like the taper D neck and 1.68 nut, feels great for a ham-fisted bassplayer

If it's that noticeable (which I don't think it is with me) how about you do the old school thing of just rolling the volume back on your bass a bit when you need? As has been said where you play and attack is maybe also something you might want to check

So...why haven't you got a Trace Elliot then..
On a scale of 0-10..? Tweets, 'The Birdy Song': 0.5 Clash, 'London Calling': 2.5 Bach, Toccata and Fugue in D Minor: 9.0 Schubert, Symphony N° 9: 11 Next question..?
But the Birdy song has a great bassline
I'm a Maiden fan but always liked Level 42. The music and singing is spot on. Something a modern pop band nowadays struggle in the nowadays money grabbing music industry.
Someone like Bruno Mars, yes imo.
When you see him play it on the clip it doesn't look as difficult as first thought but he has a really nice technique. That technique might be harder to copy than the notes. Dave
Yes if you can pull-off the timing and feel you're there

There are a few great versions of it live on YT. This has been posted a lot of times but always worth another look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAgd9Ijw6WI
Yep, gonna stick with my beloved Rotos. I suppose one saving grace on the fact that they die quickly is that they are pretty much the cheapest strings around, so one set a month isn`t killing me financially. And having just bought yet another Precision today I`m gonna try a set of Roto flats out as well. Not for gigging, just at home use when I want something mellower than clanky-punk.
Congrats on the new bass Lozz. Those roto flats are tough bit's of wire, if you like extream tension you are set
He probably is talking about serving the song and not overplaying. . . and I agree, but if that is his point, that's what he should have said. My last gig was a Reggae band and the one before that an SRV Blues/Rock band. I always serve the song and rarely overplay but on both gigs you would have heard me loud and clear 2 post codes away. Never be unheard on any gig or go unnoticed in anything you do.
I agree with all that. Depends on the type of music and also your own style, I also try make sure the bass is out there in anything I try do.
I have a run of 10 or so dep gigs with a covers band. The second was this afternoon at Much Marcle Steam Rally. Fortunately the PA was provided, but the lorry-mounted stage was as wet as a wet thing so they moved the PA to the beer tent. Jobsworths on the gate stopped us getting vehicles right up to the marquee, but we managed to find spaces in the car park fairly close to the pedestrian entrance next to it and handballed all our kit in. Of course there was no stage in the beer tent. Somebody found a piece of plywood big enough to fit the drumkit on, and I had taken the precaution of bringing a small wooden board to put my rig on and keep it off the grass. After all this we had a slightly late start, and played an excellent and very satisfying set. My 63 RI Precision via Demeter/Barefaced rig sounded epic - everything from Bob Marley to Simply Red to AC/DC at the turn of a tone knob. Also the view to my left consisted of several traction engines - the smell was glorious! Here's the only pic I've been able to find. Sadly, my face is obscured...
Welly rock

I haven't posted in here for a while, but nice gig today. We played out-doors in a seaside restaurant/ cafe type place, nice weather and a Saturday drew a few punters I'm starting to like these family day time shows a lot more than the bar and club stuff that is the norm for us. (maybe my age lol) The novelty was that I took a swim in the sea before the first set and then again after the gig, went in in my undies but who cares lol 12:30 load in and was back home by 8pm Perfect for me.
Wal basses are nice. A friend here in Sweden has three for sale right now: 5-string Wal Midibass 1991 http://pratabas.se/v...php?f=8&t=85913 Wal Mk II fretless 1987 http://pratabas.se/v...php?f=8&t=85910 Wal Mk I 1993 http://pratabas.se/v...php?f=8&t=85911
Wow! Those seem to be pretty well priced if my maths is right.
Hi, I would appreciate your opinions on this combo please. I'm looking at one or two options to replace an ageing combo to play average size gigs . Are they as good as the reviews please? Thank you.
I have the 500 version and to my mind they are great for the sound I like. I use it over much more expensive gear I have.
