1.
If it helps I played one at the herts bash and it was awesome...
Thanks Rob, that confirms my lust for one.
 2. I have a tape deck in our outside sauna building and I often listen to my old tapes in there. Back in the day I had a long commute everyday on the tube and massed a huge amount of material on tape. When I moved to finland it was easier to fill the suitcase with tapes than my vinyls, so they all made it over here. The Vinyls are here now as well,15 years later .
 3. I nearly always sit when I practice/jam/record at home. (comes from all the hours spent as a bedroom bassist) Tho I did do a lot of standing in front of the mirror in the early days (learning the real craft) Gigs and rehearsals with others is all standing.
 4. A lot of Level 42 and Mark King is like that for me. Even Jaco, I get the bass and musicianship but not personally moved by a lot of it. I know I'll be lynched
 5.
I love the thru-neck on the back shot. Great finish. Excellent work, Andy! ((one of) the other) Andy
Yes, very nice.
 6. I had 7 different types of basses at one point and still sounded like me on all of them. I still like to mix and match my basses, I do get a different tone and vibe form each bass, but it still sound like me at the end of the day. I think trying to cop Joe Dart's sound is more about trying to mimicking his style and feel rather than using exactly the same gear. If you are good enough to do that you'll be close on any bass
 7.

I'm sorry I can't relate to that piece of art, it must of been done before my time!
 8.
Nice! The bass style reminds me of Steve Amazing of Upp. Check out Friendly Street at 7.11 - https://www.youtube....h?v=IDbKtiy8YSs - one of those intros like Car Wash that has you sure you know where 'one' is, and then... Album produced and guitared by Jeff Beck.
Sorry if I take this off topic, but had to go check Upp out.. found this live clip, seems the bassist was doing the chucking (maybe there is a pick , but it sounds great?) thing even before Bernard Edwards You can see it around 2:10 mark. Shame Beck destroys the groove for me lol.
 9.
I know a lot of the tightness is down to his fantastic muting and control, but it sounds really fat and punchy too!
Yes it's very nice. Like a few other post's before have suggested. you could use the same guitar strings and amp and sound totally different. Imo it's the feel, groove, technique and great timing he has that make him sound like that. I played along a bit with my Stingray and it sounded fairly close but he left me behind with his skills
 10. I like that, no guitards getting in the way. That's fingers and feel for you
 11.
I've always believed that "Cover Band" means a group of musicians who do not perform material of their own. When I see how that looks in type it seems like a negative statement but I don't mean it that way. It's just the most concise way I can think to answer your question. How is that different to your scene?
+1
 12.
"Just a cover" So we can also say, "just an original" ? Blue
Just keep out there Blue doing what makes you happy and don't worry about trying to categorize it. The main band I play in have enough material to do a couple of sets of originals and enough covers (all beit our own takes on) to to do the same when required.
 13. A band that plays cover songs only! Of course you can turn the song on it's head, but it's still just a cover. Here all the rage seems to be tribute bands, which I'm really not into.
 14. I have used the HB Powerplant for a few years now and haven't found it to be noisey at all, even for recording, have run upto 6 pedals only on it. The only drawback is that it is pretty heavy and a brick of a thing. I also have something like Panamonte has linked to but that runs 5, 9v and 5, 18v. It's a lot lighter and been reliable as well.
 15.
I'll be keeping an eye on the talkbass Wal thread as I expect that is where it ended up...
I have just seen the seller posted in FB that the bass went off to Germany.
 16.
Can you compare it to your '76 P?
Not sure about others experience but I have found... the 50's models have a very different feel neckwise to any of the 70's P's I have had or tried., a lot more chunky flatter and wider.
 17.
Okay... I get it... I think...? I'm after a 57 Precision (my birth year). No way could I afford the real deal so it has to be a replica. I'm guessing the RW will be closest to the vibe... although a new one will be nearer my wallet. What a dilemma!
The RW's do pop up on here pretty often. Buying one used you can't really go wrong I'd say.
 18.
According to fender the specs are the same, save finish of course...
Yes. We never did get round to discovering the differences in the other threads There was talk of selected woods etc, but we never got to the bottom of it as far as I recall. One is good and the other is even better. There I said it. All IMO of course. I like these so much that I have held onto mine and let a couple of (good) vintage Fenders go.
 19.
Enlighten me.
Try get both in your hands and you will (might) see. A lot of it for me has to do with the feel of the neck/frets, weight of the bass resonance and it's sustain and of course the look We have had a few disscussions on the differences, no one can really nail it, but try both as I said and you may prefer one.
 20.
I love tales like this...well done chap!
+1 fantastic.
 21.
Always fancied the sunburst model... however, new they're about 1200 squids now. Cant find a used one so now looking at the 50s pbass. At around £750. That's nearly £500 for the relic job!
There is a bit more to it than that.
 22.
A bit cruel Bilbo.
Yes. It's pretty hard to try replicate his playing, without over playing and throwing in too many flourishes that take away from the original feel. I think he is pretty disciplined and in the pocket all night.
 23.
I wonder if Rhysp represents a majority or a small percentage of bass chat members? Blue
I'm sure there are a few full-time musicians on here.
