1.
The tone that I really like is Pino Palladino's Wherever I lay my hat.
I know this has been posted before, but always worth ano ther look. Can't work out if they are flats or rounds on his Stingray? Just like with fretted a lot of the tone is in your hands/fingers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRjiMN2qJHI
2.
The one i have is a soupbar type of P pickup on the p location.
I had a fretless Precision, that really didn't do it for me.
3. I don't know that bass, but in my humble experinace with fretless basses they need a couple of pickups and one right down near the bridge to get the burp burble and zing. Just my opinion.
4. Nice one. Some good promo material there,
5. I tend to swap mine about a bit, most gigs have been with a Precision, but not unknow to Jazz, or Ray it. 2 new basses have come in, in the last month so it could be one of them, The Renegade or the Fretless Ibby I have been using non stop since I got it.
6. I see Jah Wobble has now gone Barefaced
7. I think that is a great price for one of these. I recently picked up the fretless version and it's so nice, it's all I have been wanting to play.
8. Ok bit of an update. Went with Dunlop Nickel plated 45-100, not too brite and a nice tension for me. Other work I had done to the bass was replacing the 2 Fender type tuners that were on there when I bought it with some that matched the origionals a bit more. He put a bit more bow into the neck and adjusted the string radius, plays like a dream now. Just need to work on my intonation now and use my ears and not eyes a bit more
9.
I've currently got a set of Status Ground wounds on my fretless. Very happy with them, though having said that, I've not heard them at gig volume but at home they sound loverly
Thanks Gary. I had some GHS pressurewounds a while ago on my old fretless, thought I'd get the best of both worlds but they didn't really work out for me. I have 3 new sets of round and half a dozen various sets of flats to choose from lol. Decisions, decisions. I know I can always change but as my luthier is giving it a setup I'd rather try get it right from the start.
10. They look like the D,addario ETB's
11. Been sticking to mainly fretless now since I picked up my Ibby Musician. Blues rock type stuff (who said it can't, shouldn't be done ) I just stuck some Daddario ETB92's on there from the fretless I traded, it sounds nice bit missing a little bit of sparkle and top end. It goes to my luthier tomorrow to get a once over and would like some help on deciding what string to put on there Basically stay flat or go round? I have a good selection of both types, but just can't decide what to go for. Anyone fretless, flat or round preference in a Rock vein?
12.
.... were the makers of the worst set of strings I ever fitted. The G broke. I took it back to the shop and they took over a month to send me 1 string as replacement. And when fitted they were as stiff as fence wire.
I'm pretty much the same with them, took them off after one gig, sounded nice but far too stiff for me to enjoy fingerstyle.
13.
Hot tip for anyone who can get to Guildford , Andertons I decided to leave it and bought a CMD121P Markbass combo instead .... it was more money but i just got on with the tone better. There's a Rumble 500 head and the matching 15 cab that I was looking at today, Somone has traded it in but the condition is immaculate, it includes cable , covers bag for the head etc and warranty for £349 , I'm pretty sure thats a bargain right ? Here's the advert http://www.andertons...-38-115-cab.asp
Enjoy the new combo. I never fully know how I'm going to get on in terms of tone with a new rig till I try it out with the band. The Rumble does it for me
14.
Vintage white, gold anodized and maple...
Very nice,
15. Excuse the gut! This one was white
16. Sounds like a great shopping trip, enjoy!
17.
I am not sure but I guess the use something like the old GB7 tuners from Gotoh. The GB7 is no longer made but a good replacements can be had fro Warwick at Thomann,
Thanks. I'm now going to give the job to my luthier of ordering and replacing them. Seems like too many variables for me to go wrong.
18. Not really in the know about the cases, and don't know how vintage that even is.. look's nothing like my 1970 case I'd go with a new Hiscox anyday
19. Very nice. A real Pino.
20. Apologies if this has been posted before. Fairly epic groove and chops http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBxEF-nQK04
21.
I've got one of those and it's now wearing Grovers
Great, you wouldn't happen to know where I could find any do you? It's the sizing and the fit I don't know.
22.
The tuners can be tricky to find. One suggestion might be to find an old Roadstar bass which uses the same tuners and swap out the tuners. Rb760 and rb850s are quite common on eBay and fairly inexpensive.
Thanks. I'll keep an eye out .. You don't by any chance know what after market tuners would fit?
23. Tell you what, the Ellite chromes the Bass Centre sells aren't bad. I'll be going back for more.
24. Hi. I'm hoping someone could help me. I now have an 1982 Ibanez Musician MC940 (fretless) that needs a couple of new tuners/machineheads (maybe a complete set) Not really worried about aftermarket sets. Anyone know the size diameter etc that I should be looking at? Any links or tips would be great. Thanks.
25.
Lovely. I think you got the better end of that swap. Get on to the Vintage Ibby FB group and see if anyone's got any spare tuners in their parts box. Jon.
Cheers Jon.
