Looks ok to me as well. I have a 73 with the tugbar on the treble side, it also has a strap button on the headstock. I bought it used so someone may of added that on as well. Edit, mines a 73.

I guess Norman Watt Roys and the Blockheads, "Hit me with your rythmn stick" would have to be in there. Think it's in F

Here is a really helpful video comparing pre and post EB basses; the difference between the two sounds is very clear! There is no point in saying that one is 'better' than the other - they are just very different beasts! Yep, that's it right there.
-
You'd be able to find a good one on here I'd say for about £700 upwards. I personally prefer the 2eq pre EB's, they go for a bit more but have a sound of their own that I couldn't find on a modern Stingray. I haven't tried a classic but that would be my 2nd choice.
Too right, too bloody right. Parasites all of them. Well brought up, Bilbo, I feel better now.
Me too thanks. I remember some fun parties in the 80's when DJ's would toast over some good reggae tunes, that was about the dance and soundsystem They just had some kind of DJ festival here, the videos I saw were people pumping fists to a stage full of monitor screens flashing bright images. I just don't get it! Should point out I was around for the rave thing as well and never really got that even when I was on one Prefer a band and live music, Old Fart and proud.
I wish you could get a Roadworn without the wear... But as it stands, I reckon the 50s Precision is the best Fender P for the money. The neck is chunky but very comfortable.
They now do the laquerd finished 50's P. but not sure how close to the rest of the Roadworn spec it is. http://intl.fender.com/en-FI/basses/precision-bass/classic-series-50s-precision-bass-lacquer-maple-fingerboard-black/

Yes, they are a bit chunkier. That's one of the things I like about them ( I have a Roadworn 50's P) Chunkier and wider than my early 70's P as well... and they seem to sustain for ever...
Yes Don has enthused about said rig on here, and having a copy of his bands CD, well if he used that rig to record it, I also like that rig. Sounds great - both the bass tone and the band I might add.
Thanks Lozz I'm still using the Rumble and loving it. Have let a few others bassist use it for a backline as well and they have all been impressed with it. The CD was done with the TH DI Pedal you flogged me Next one will be with the Rumble miced up at some point for sure. PM was answered btw.

I think I'll be selling my TH500 (which I haven't been using) once these hit the stores.

Post a tune that made you stop breathing the first time you heard it

Not sure about stopped breathing, but the hairs on the back of the neck stood up and still get the vibe when I'm out anywhere and hear it. Pretty Vacant! 15 and at the youth disco.. -

There were a lot of great live bands around in the 80's.. won't comment on the tosh that was played on the rmain-stream radio. Also music programmes like The Tube in the 80's were pretty good at giving unsigned and up and coming bands a chance to be heard. It was the best time for live music for me,

If you could have been in one band in the last 15 years.....
Highfox replied to merello's topic in General Discussion
U2 Nah, someone like The Specials if I had the chops and can say they are still going. -
I have bought stuff off here on about 10 occasions and never had a problem. A bonus is that those people have also been prepared to ship overseas (tho at my cost of course) which really is appreciated. Haven't sold anything on here yet, so still have to experince it from that side. But all good so far.

How many basses have you bought off the Basschat marketplace?
Highfox posted a topic in Bass Guitars
Haven't seen a thread for it and fairly interested to see who's had what. I have had 5 to date and still own 3 of them. 4 precisions and 1 Stingray -- still have 2 of the P's and the Ray. -
Even tho they are not valve, the new Fender Rumbles (V3) combo's can sound fairly old school to me. If you can get the chance to try one. Edit to say, you might be pleasently surprised
Thanks for all the Replies. I'm Currently leaning very much towards one of the ~€1000 models (carved/hybrid) available at Thomann and Gedo unless a good deal pops up second hand. It says on both sites that they will do a setup to your specs when ordering, but would I be right in saying that it would be still worth taking them to a luthier when they arrive for a proper seeing to? Also in what ballpark would I be expected to pay for a setup from a luthier? Cheers
Like I said before I'm new to DB's, so this is not coming from a pro, I was advised to get an adjustable bridge when I ordered mine, they set it up and marked it before posting it, all I had to do was slightly adjust the string heights once it had settled and it's been fine since. I haven't felt the need to take it to a luthier. It's felt better to me than any other DB I have had my hands on . I'm not sure how it projects soundwise compared to others but have only had nice comments about how nice it sounds from people. Guessing, but if you know you are going to stick to a certain type of string maybe just getting a conventional bridge and getting a luthier to work on it might be another way to go.. I'll leave it to those in know to comment..

NBD: 1988 Musicman Stingray- very red, very lovely
Highfox replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Bass Guitars
Fantastic enjoy. That one should get you noticed -
I'm very much still a novice to the DB world, but I will say for around your budget I got a new Thomaan 22 some Spirocores and an adjustable bridge they did a basic setup and I just tweaked the string heights once it arrived to get an action I was/am happy with. Couldn't find any used market here for DB's and if there was they were really expensive so it was an easy choice to buy new for me. Good luck and I'm sure with that budget you should find something nice.
I always at some point in any given rehearsal even for just a tiny bit play the Jaws riff, Sweeney and The Professionals.
