Looks ok to me as well. I have a 73 with the tugbar on the treble side, it also has a strap button on the headstock. I bought it used so someone may of added that on as well. Edit, mines a 73.

Here is a really helpful video comparing pre and post EB basses; the difference between the two sounds is very clear! You'd be able to find a good one on here I'd say for about £700 upwards. I personally prefer the 2eq pre EB's, they go for a bit more but have a sound of their own that I couldn't find on a modern Stingray. I haven't tried a classic but that would be my 2nd choice.

Yes, they are a bit chunkier. That's one of the things I like about them ( I have a Roadworn 50's P) Chunkier and wider than my early 70's P as well... and they seem to sustain for ever...

There were a lot of great live bands around in the 80's.. won't comment on the tosh that was played on the rmain-stream radio. Also music programmes like The Tube in the 80's were pretty good at giving unsigned and up and coming bands a chance to be heard. It was the best time for live music for me,

I have bought stuff off here on about 10 occasions and never had a problem. A bonus is that those people have also been prepared to ship overseas (tho at my cost of course) which really is appreciated. Haven't sold anything on here yet, so still have to experince it from that side. But all good so far.

Haven't seen a thread for it and fairly interested to see who's had what. I have had 5 to date and still own 3 of them. 4 precisions and 1 Stingray -- still have 2 of the P's and the Ray.

Even tho they are not valve, the new Fender Rumbles (V3) combo's can sound fairly old school to me. If you can get the chance to try one. Edit to say, you might be pleasently surprised

Cheers [/quote] Like I said before I'm new to DB's, so this is not coming from a pro, I was advised to get an adjustable bridge when I ordered mine, they set it up and marked it before posting it, all I had to do was slightly adjust the string heights once it had settled and it's been fine since. I haven't felt the need to take it to a luthier. It's felt better to me than any other DB I have had my hands on . I'm not sure how it projects soundwise compared to others but have only had nice comments about how nice it sounds from people. Guessing, but if you know you are going to stick to a certain type of string maybe just getting a conventional bridge and getting a luthier to work on it might be another way to go.. I'll leave it to those in know to comment..

I'm very much still a novice to the DB world, but I will say for around your budget I got a new Thomaan 22 some Spirocores and an adjustable bridge they did a basic setup and I just tweaked the string heights once it arrived to get an action I was/am happy with. Couldn't find any used market here for DB's and if there was they were really expensive so it was an easy choice to buy new for me. Good luck and I'm sure with that budget you should find something nice.
