Thanks Guys. I have been finding it fairly physical, I do about 10-15 minutes at a time and then go back after a break. As you suggested I checked out a fair bit on YT and that helped a bit I think (hope) , I really should and must book some lessons but I'm just enjoying discovering it and the freedom that it has given me atm. I have also been playing along to some backing tracks trying to get the intonation sorted a bit more, it's good to have to listen more. It is very addictive and keeps me going back for more. Last week I had to leave it alone for one day before band practice or I may of let the guys in the band down with a bit of lazy (painful) finger work on the electric

I just wanted to say to anyone that might be thinking of starting DB, that I just took the leap after 35 years of playing electric. I was always scared of but at the same time a little intrigued by it. Maybe the physical size or the reputation (that you had to be an exceptionally good player to play DB) always put me off Well..., 3 weeks in my technique is crap, my fingers hurt, I could do with lessons, but I'm enjoying it immensely, I guess I do have the added bonus after already playing the electric and fretless, of how it should be sounding. It's a challenge for me, where fun comes first and it's not disappointing. Maybe I should add I have no great expectations with this instrument other than selfish enjoyment and possibly it to be thrust upon the ears of the public at some point. Just do it...

I'd say it should be ok. You can always use it as a surfboard if the weather gets worse.

Feel for you also. Mine arrived last week from Thomann and luckily for me the post was still in place. Going to be a long wait, but well worth it in the end.

Don't know why but DPD are always the slowest option here, they seem to hand it off to the local post office it always seems to sit in limbo a day or 2 longer. Things have always arrived in good condition, but often had to wait 10 days from the UK. I'd be asking for a refund on the extra delivery cost.

Ok, so you really only need 1 bass. I only do about 12 gigs a year atm, I try rotate my basses so they all get to come out and play at some point. Right now the Precision (s) are getting the most use, if we go down to a trio I like to break-out the Stingray or Jazz. The fretless gets some studio use I can always justify having more than one lol. I have just moved one on that I wasn't using much, heartbreaking but it had to go.

I have 1970 P with an A neck, it still says Precision on the headstock They are very nice necks imo.

Thanks for all the nice comments. Can't tell you how excited and happy I'am to be starting out on (hopefully) the long road of my BD playing. The bass looked beautiful to me when it arrived (nicer than I thought it would). They even seem to of gone to the effort of trying to match the grain up. I may have to bite the Bullet and get someone in the know to have a look at it just make sure I'm giving myself a fighting chance with it. It seems to be pretty playable, hopefully all the creaking and string stretching will settle down in time? So far so good. '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' BassFunk, everyone else look away! It was close to €1350 with the Spiro's, bridge and the extra €100 they charged for setting it up. I was going to go with Gedo, but they didn't have the bass I wanted in stock, so with the free postage from Thomas and long return policy I went with them in the end.

Genz gear is great, very reliable. For a change I'm now using the new Fender Rumble gear and like it a lot. Hope it's strong enough to take the knocks, 6 months in and it's still going strong. I still have all my Genz gear and won't be getting rid of it, if ever I need it or want a change. (the shuttle 6 or Th500 still comes with me as back-up)

Nice one. It's great when they turn out to friendly human beings as well.

The 3 nicest basses, (feel, sound and looks wise) that I have ever owned just happen to be fairly old, a 70, 73 and 84. There is something in it imo.
