1. Nice one. It's great when they turn out to friendly human beings as well.
2. The 3 nicest basses, (feel, sound and looks wise) that I have ever owned just happen to be fairly old, a 70, 73 and 84. There is something in it imo.
3. Seems in the early days we spent a lot of time looking at the fretboard lol
4.
1991 I think
I'd love to hear how that sounded.
5.
Yeah, that was me, hard to believe. I was 16 or 17 and now I'm 62 and still love performing. Looking forward to tonight's show. Sorry about hi-jacking the thread. Blue
No hi-jack, it's all cool. Have a great show
6.
Brilliant pic Do you remember the make of the amp ? That front panel looks familiar...
Thanks. Can't remember what amp it was unfortunately, it wasn't mine..on loan from someone.
7.
What bass is that? Looks like the ones you could get in Woolworths for £49
It was a Kay bass , that I picked up for 5 quid. That gig was very much with the punk ethos of use what you have and just get up and do it. I'd only been learning to play for a week or 2. Edit for the song list. Public Image Whiten Riot Pretty Vacant
8.
There are plenty of clues and one big one. Remember I play bass, ok so where is the most likely place in the pic I would be? Blue
At the bar? Kidding, that's a very cool looking photo.
9. An old friend just sent me a pic from my first every gig back in 79. I never knew there where any pics taken. Check out the bass
10. Great combo, love mine.
11. A clip from a gig last week. http://youtu.be/SpOY56VBYEo
12. Oh Boy! and someone bid the 950.
13. You need at least one of everything.
14. I prefer singles as well, I have the EBS multi comp on the whole time, Love the quack I get from the MXR bass envelope filter and I have a Catilinbread SFT for OD when needed. Recording it's mainly the Tonehammer pedal. edit: (I should really remember the names of the pedals I'm using)
15.
There`s certainly some sort of effect.drive on Should I Stay, as Simenons bass tone for most of his other work is a lot different. Much warmer, traditional P-Bass sound. He was a flats user so maybe on this track they just upped the treble or mids a lot more which enabled the drive to come through. Essentially it`s some sort of valve-grind that gives a lot of the sound on that track though, so depends on what the amp can do - maybe some sort of pre-amp pedal would do it, my Tech 21 VT DI can certainly do that sort of sound with a P-Bass strung with flats.
Yes, agree. If you listen to the isolated bass, lot's of compression and gate on it as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qC2xf4cOKSs If your pickup's are doing that without overdrive or full on valve distortion, I'd say there is something wrong!
16. Yep, one P with flats the other with rounds.
17. That's good to know, thanks Pete. I may knock you up for some more info on them nearer the time if that's ok.
18.
It would have been an excellent introduction day for anyone thinking of taking the plunge, I wish there had been something similar a couple of years ago.
Yes, it's a shame I don't live closer or I would of tried to make it for sure. Would of been a great help to get hands-on. I'm on the slippery slope.. just sent an email to Gedo, this forum still offers a great deal of info and can be very helpful.
19. You guys are doing wonders in promoting the DB world ... Following this thread and a few others I now have serious DB gas!
20.
1964 Fender Jazz Bass 1978 Fender Jazz Bass 2013 Fender Jazz Bass All sunburst with rosewood.
Which is the best?
21. 4 Fender P's in various guises. 1 Fender Jazz 1 MM Stingray 1 warwick Star bass and the uke bass I'm now thinking of swapping one out, maybe the Star bass to get a standup DB.
22. CamdenRob, the Ginger Baker of bass I think the answer to the question is yes. Don't ask me how or why but I came across a couple of birdwatchers today, they were the most miserable and unsociable gits I've met in a while.. too much hiding out in the woods maybe- edit..spelling
23. I thought I had some idea where this was going this morning, now I'm lost! I like to see the good in everyone.
24. I think we should have more of theses thoughtful soul searching threads.. It's better than a lot of the usual garb Just one a week.
