1. I use it a fair bit with the fingers as well when trying to give different dynamics to certain songs... normally with a bit of dampening from the palm as well... Old Reggae habit. Sting seems to be the master and can even do fairly complex and fast parts with the pluck and twang and dampening.
2.
I played one of those new Fender Rumbles last week in a shop in Belfast. The tone was lovely - a nice rounded sound with a touch of growl. Very impressive, although I don't know how they'd sound at gig volume. Frank.
They sound great, that's how they sound. Lot's of volume there out of the 210 combo.
3.
I always associated Deacy with Fenders for some reason, what hits did he use a Ray on?
Another one bites the dust, I think was one track he used it on. For me it would have to be Bernard as well. Every time I get out the Ray it's that magical tone I'm looking for I know a lot of the tone is in the fingers and Bernard used a few different basses and made them all sound great.
4. I love those slabs, good chunky necks as well.. doe's it weigh a ton? I have a 51 ri which is slabbed, but not bad weight wise.
5. I would of killed for a Dee Dee Fender budget line P 20-30 years ago when a Squier wasn't really cool to have and a real Fender was way over the budget for my 25 quid a week apprenticeship pay. I'm now in the over 50's target market for these, so lets how they are priced Never say never... spelling edit lol.
6. After collecting my gear from the practice places, I now have it all together for the first time at home.
7.
Good luck with the trio. Maybe get a new singer to replace him. There must be plenty around who would like to come in on a new album release.
Thanks Guys, think that's what we'll be doing, but as the singer was the founder, the band name and most of the tracks were his, even if they were arranged by all of us.. luckily we have a lot of our own material to work on and the 3 of of us seem to have the same goals and ideas. We will carry on as a trio for now and see how it goes.
8.
Really sorry to hear this Don, I thought the band sounded great. Never been in that situation, sounds a nightmare, after all the hard work put in. Really want a copy of the album though, so please let me know how to get hold of one.
Thanks Lozz.. as I said bad time but a relief in a way. I'lll send you a copy no prob.
9. Can I share, Second time in a row now this has happened to me. The first band I decided to leave as nothing much was happening for us after 3 years of practicing, there seemed to be no drive or ambition within the band which got to me in the end.. No big problems for the they found a new bass player and have carried on more or less the same. This other band was one I joined a s a side project when nothing was happening with my "main band!" (above) after a little bit of time things started to happen for us , decent new songs came easy lots of gigs, interest and invites and a bit of income as well. The main problem was that the singer and founder of the band is an alcoholic fairly unsociable and unpredictable, we never knew if we would get through a gig with him or not and traveling anywhere with him was a nightmare, anyway long story short... it all came to a head last night at practice when we had a band chat about our intensions on how we would promote the new album and some plans on upcoming gigs.. he basically said he wasn't going to do the shows we had lined up and when asked gave no reason and just said we could do them but he wasn't.. he then turned round and called us all assholes and that we could f*** off lol. So we just took our gear and left him there.. As I said to the other guys it was inevitable at some point and just bad timing now as the Album comes out next week! We have done a few shows with out him before with a different set as our guitarist can sing.. so from now on we are a trio and can start to build again.. We may still have some debt to the record company (for the album).. and our first few gigs may just be clawing the cash back.. anyone else been there?
10. I do as well on 2 of mine.
11. They are nice amps. It's always the old story that it may sound totally different in a live mix, where you might not need or hear all those highs. I have sometimes used a passive jazz with mine and never been found wanting more highs.. personal taste as you say. Enjoy the amp.
12. How's this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xnz2R4CP8w
13. You'll love it! I have a 70 and a 72 both are fantastic. I heard it said that there weren't that many dogs made by F before 74.
14. I have the new 500w 210 combo that features the same 10"s (I beleive). I like them a lot. Pretty punchy with a decent lowend to my ear. Great vintage look to them as well. Lets us know how you go!
15. I just found a slide I scanned of my old Wal. I bought it used in about 83/84 the previous owner had stuck an extra pickup on it. I used it for a good few years but ended up using it as part exchange for a new Warwick Streamer from the bass centre in Wapping 89. Couldn't afford to keep it at the time. Funny how I ended up with the Warwick as I went looking for a Stingray at the time but they had none lol. Ever wonder where your old basses ended up? 16. Thanks a lot Guys, that's very kind.
17. Wasn't going to post it, but what's the point of making music if it's not to be shared. One track off the possible album, rough and almost ready. and yes I like my root notes lol. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/90499974/08%20Warm%20Warm%20P___y.m4a
18. I just stuck a Aguilar GS 112 under my 210 Fender Rumble 500 and couldn't be happier. The slightly darker sound and oomph of the GS is offset by the slightly top end punchier overdriven 10's of the Rumble, at least to my ear As they said, you'll never know till you try. Funny, in the last year I have myself gone from liking a pure clean tone with flats, to a slightly overdriven sound with rounds, how's that!
19.
I used a GS112 as a 'bottom' cab for a while, with an Ashdown 2x10 neo on top. I was so impressed with the Aggie cab that I built a pair of 12's. As you already have the cab, it is worth a try :-)
Thanks, I gave the Rumble 500 a try today with one of my Aggie GS112's underneath... soundwise it was spot on, thought it sounded nicer than the Aguilar's paired. Still be interested to try the Rumble 15, especially as they look so cool These are really great amps and cabs imo.
20.
Why not add another 2x10, if you like the sound of it?
Hadn't thought of that. I thought I'd got over my 410 crush, maybe not then! I had been using 12's for a good while now. I'd like to keep it in the new rumble series really, so it's either 115 or 410.
21. Thanks JTUK, they would have to be 8 ohm drivers with the Rumble combo.
22. Little bit of advice needed. I'm liking the sound I'm getting from my New Fender rumble 500 combo, it's a 210 config and I like the punch form those 10's being pushed. It goes pretty loud but I was thinking to add another cabinet (GAS strikes lol) and I really wanted it to be in the rumble series, I have a choice of a 115 or 410. I'd like it to be a 115, I have read about phase issues running drivers of different sizes (tho I never noticed it personally when I used to run a Trace Elliot 410 and 115 together. Do you think it would be that noticeable if I stuck a 115 under the 210's? I'll probably have to order from Thoman so there is no way I can do a shop test and have to do a return if it's no good. I do have a spare Aguilar GS 112 at the studio I could stick under there just to see how it sounds, but guess being a different make and driver size it wouldn't be a true representation. Just wanted your thoughts.
23.
Late to the show on this one... I borrowed a Fender 350 and the tone and power was so awesome and punchy, it really made me enjoy playing and wanted me to really drive the bass hard. I was quite sad when my Laney RB9 came back from repair. Needless to say I will go out and buy a Rumble when my Laney has had its day.
They are nice aren't they I'm even thinking of selling My Aguilar GS 112's and buying a Rumble 15 or 410 to stick under my 500 combo for practice space and the odd larger gig. I have been offered a straight swap my 2 GS 112's for a GS 412, but to be honest I'm liking the sound I'm getting from the "budget" rumble to the Aggies atm. Lets see where it goes.
24. In 1978 at the school disco/youthclub, at the ripe old age of 15, I'd only been playing a week, Pretty Vacant.
