1.
Why not add another 2x10, if you like the sound of it?
Hadn't thought of that. I thought I'd got over my 410 crush, maybe not then! I had been using 12's for a good while now. I'd like to keep it in the new rumble series really, so it's either 115 or 410.
2. Thanks JTUK, they would have to be 8 ohm drivers with the Rumble combo.
3. Little bit of advice needed. I'm liking the sound I'm getting from my New Fender rumble 500 combo, it's a 210 config and I like the punch form those 10's being pushed. It goes pretty loud but I was thinking to add another cabinet (GAS strikes lol) and I really wanted it to be in the rumble series, I have a choice of a 115 or 410. I'd like it to be a 115, I have read about phase issues running drivers of different sizes (tho I never noticed it personally when I used to run a Trace Elliot 410 and 115 together. Do you think it would be that noticeable if I stuck a 115 under the 210's? I'll probably have to order from Thoman so there is no way I can do a shop test and have to do a return if it's no good. I do have a spare Aguilar GS 112 at the studio I could stick under there just to see how it sounds, but guess being a different make and driver size it wouldn't be a true representation. Just wanted your thoughts.
4.
Late to the show on this one... I borrowed a Fender 350 and the tone and power was so awesome and punchy, it really made me enjoy playing and wanted me to really drive the bass hard. I was quite sad when my Laney RB9 came back from repair. Needless to say I will go out and buy a Rumble when my Laney has had its day.
They are nice aren't they I'm even thinking of selling My Aguilar GS 112's and buying a Rumble 15 or 410 to stick under my 500 combo for practice space and the odd larger gig. I have been offered a straight swap my 2 GS 112's for a GS 412, but to be honest I'm liking the sound I'm getting from the "budget" rumble to the Aggies atm. Lets see where it goes.
5. In 1978 at the school disco/youthclub, at the ripe old age of 15, I'd only been playing a week, Pretty Vacant.
6. I'm stuck in the 70's 80's lol. The Clash: Everything.. London calling top of the list. Jimmy Cliff,The Harder they come: soundtrack Joe Strummer and the mescaleros: Global a Go Go The Specials: Madness: The Jam: Bob Marley: Some Chic and MJ JJ Cale They all have their time and place in my life. If I bring myself up to date Wilko and Roger's Going back home is getting a good rotation. Spotify is nice when I do a lot of driving, lots of interesting radio stations on there as well as a huge catalogue of music to listen to.
7. I tell you what, I like the new Fender Rumble series, I have the 500 combo. Give them a try if you can. Separate head and speakers might suit you more.
8. I'm liking mine more and more the more I use it. I haven't used the GB 6.2 but do own a 6.0, it sounds very different to my ear, maybe the voicing of the cab and speakers give it it's own sound. I found settings I like that get a little break-up with a little volume, very nice for a 210, stick some 115 with it and you'd get a decent wall of bass in your face and rear
9. Super cool, love to be doing something like that.
10.
I've had a chance to play with my HB kahuna bass now. The strings seem to be much more like that original ashbory silicone strings than the black kala/roadtoad pahoehoes. They are too grabby to play comfortably — at least when they are new. A tiny amount of unscented 'simple' talc helps a lot. The bass sounds good plugged in as long as the eq is turned all the way to the bass side, but the profile of the back of the neck is a little weird on mine — its very square and chunky around the first fret position, which feels strange and a little uncomfortable on the thumb. I wonder whether they're all like that?
Thanks for the tips on the talc, mine seems to be getting a little easier to play or that I'm getting used to it a bit. I hadn't noticed it being any harder to play at the first fret position, of course it is a little cramped up there, mine has a slight indentation on the back of the neck where the headstock joins the neck, very slight but my thumb slips in there when I'm at the first fret. I play with my fretting hand thumb parallel to the fret board most of the time, not sure if that is the correct method or not! Funny how I had never noticed that before until I had a look now.
11.
Looks nice. But, I can't find the link to the clip. Is it on soundcloud or somewhere?
Sorry I took it away my playing was too crap for public consumption lol. pm me and I can send you a link if you'd like.
12. Awww, ain't it cute? So it showed up today first impression it's nice, any smaller and it would be useless for me. Strings are very sticky atm and pretty hard to play, it's also a very humid and clammy day here, one of those when your hands just don't slide on guitar necks. Thought I'd record a clip (excuse the lazy playing, sausage finger rule lol) don't know why it made me want to go bossa on my drum machine. DI'd through my tonehammer, needs a lot more work on the eq when going DI, I couldn't get it. Think it would need some compression or the like. It sounds pretty decent through a cab. 13. Thanks for this thread we were working on a new song today and walla walla I managed to nick Macca's E and A riff to go over the Guitar sol lol I'm sure it's all been done before.
14. I had a listen to a few tracks, sounded good, nice bass playing. Not really my thing as I like more in your face type music, if that makes sense! Reminded this middle aged geezer of the Smiths a bit. Good luck with it all.
15. It's not one of the easiest of basslines either.
16. Gets painful for me sometimes as well, I try not to play for a day or 2 then if I can. I always think of Flea's blister and think I'm just being a pussy when I complain, http://forums.redhotchilipeppers.com/index.php?topic=49513.0
17. Thanks Guys It's clear for me at least now.
18. Also the arched bodies and backs on the Koreans against the flat of the Chinese. I think the OP's is indeed the Pro series Korean model. Mine on the other-hand has the WPS G serial, is from 2011 as far as I can tell, has the bronze frets, wenge board and arched top and back and reads handcrafted in Korea on the label inside the body. Where there really 2 Pro series of Starbass?
19.
Rockbass and the new WGPS series (which has replaced the Pro Series) are different basses. Then there is the uber German series. This bass was made in Korea and is now discontinued.
Don't think that's quite right Kev? The Pro series where MIK, German Starbass series where made in Germany( I beleive). The Rockbass series are made in China as I understood. Mine is the MIK pro series with a WPS G prefix. Confusing lol.
20. As far as I know, I think if it's the Korean Pro series it's just Starbass pro and not the Rockbass Starbass! My Pro series Starbass starts with serial WPS-G******** hope that helps.
21. Never played one of these and always wanted one after seeing Simmo use one in the London calling and call-up vids. Going to go quick me thinks..
22. Those Ricks are very powerful sounding up that end
23. Mines been posted today, stay tuned.
24.
Chill out and accept that there's always someone faster, more creative, better looking, etc., etc. On the flip side, you can *always* improve your playing with practice no matter how good you are.
+1 I have often felt not good enough as a player, over the years I have managed to carve out my own style and sound and now I just think f-it, this is what I do if you play better good luck to you. Coming across a difficult piece of music and trying to master it can be frustrating, I find if I'm struggling I leave it and come back another time and more often than not I'm then able to crack it. As another poster suggested you should be enjoying it at the same time
