1. Some real beauties in here Forgot I hadn't added mine. MM-82
 2. Whilst it's interesting, I still don't think I'll part with my 71 or 73 P's just yet. There is so much more to it as we know.
 3.
Video of one of the 12 tests performed by Lozz, just to show how he did them. There would have been no point in recording all the tests, as the camera's sound facility is not good enough to show the subtle differences between basses.
and that was the winner, think Lozz said that was bass number 2 at the end. Thought it sounded nice as well.
 4. Thanks for doing this. I was looking forward to the results. I think shares in MIM should skyrocket if you post the results on talkbass. At least it was an all Fender top 5 Sounds like you guys had fun doing it as well.
 5.
You really won't believe the outcome...Lozz is probably keeping you in suspense deliberately...if you'd come you wouldn't have to wait
Was it the Rickenbacker that came out top? lol
 6. Thanks for posting that I'd never seen it before. I'd guess they where flats he had on there lol. Digging in hard.
 7. Thanks everyone. I cleared the air a bit this morning, spoke to the guitarist today and he said I'm welcome to come along and make suggestions at any point, he also said the extra guitar parts are there to just beef things up if need. I made him aware that I'd like to have a say in the final sound and production stages. Seems we might be batting for the same team after all.. He also complemented my bass playing and said that I bring my own sound to the band and that that won't be lost. Lets see.. I'm a lot more confident today. Thanks again to the caring bass chat members for letting me air my worries and insecurities. I'll post up when we have the final product in the bag so to speak.
 8.
I might have missed this... but what is the point of the recording..?? If an album to sell at gigs..then yes, consider embellishing it so it is something different from what people hear at gigs. It really helps if you freshen up tracks like that and it is hard work to change things around if you play the same numbers all the time. We revise numbers or leave them out so long that when we come back to them...they sound different because we aren't concerned how we used to do them or have even forgotten how... so we basically have to relearn them. Doesn't work well if the band plays by numbers though... If the album is to get gigs, then I am not much a fan of a produced set of songs that bear no relation to how you will sound live. We keep recorded versions on our website to a minimum and only the originals are 'produced'.. Generally, I don't think it is a good idea to let people loose in a recording studio and certainly not left to their own devices..and certainly not vain gtrs...
Thanks, we get enough gigs and don't really need a lot more promo material. It's to catalogue the work we have done.
 9.
I love being the bass player I am not a gigging player but I just like everything about the bass and it just brings everything together...If you want to be a glory boy and steel the limelight play a guitar or sing upfront bass players are a bit like drummers they seem overlooked but the band would not work without them
No Glory boy here! I have been playing bass in bands for the past 36 years so know what it's about Creative input during recording and writing is a little different than looking for glory.
 10. Thanks guys for all the input. Thinking about it over night, I guess it's because I'd really like to have more creative input and more of a say in things. I think I will stand up and let them know how I feel and if they don't understand or accept it I'll move on and start my own project.
 11.
I would have stuck around to ensure having a key role in the mixing. People can take and also waste a lot of time doing endless overdubs and there comes a time when less is more. However adding or tidying up solos and backing vocals is understandable. If you're all contributing equally financially, then if individuals are becoming over extravagant with time they are basically spending everyone else's money - something to bear in mind. However it's very useful to stay involved - although you're 'just the bass player' it's useful to bear in mind that as with defenders and goalkeepers at football (they are often the captain) you see everything going on around you, something the singers and lead instrumentalists don't so even if you're not playing anything just being there you can make a contribution. I hope it turns out how you want. You're paying as well so you have as much right to be happy as everyone else.
Thanks dr.. wise words and I'll make sure I do that.
 12.
Get a double bass, you can spend at least 3 full days just trying to get a useable sound without terrible feedback
lol Pete. I did play a fretless on a couple of tracks.. not the same I know.. I guess I could of played up the intonation a bit more
 13. Thanks for all your post thus far. No producer, only an engineer at the moment, it's a hobby band and it's still in the process of being recorded. The engineer will mix it and then we'll get it mastered by another guy.. To be fair to the guitarist, he has had to come up with 10 or so solo's that he's been happy with... I just don't like the idea of all the layering. I'm just worried he'll leave no space in the music and it will end up being the over produced bollox, that Discreet hinted at. I just guess I have my idea's and I'd like to have more control over what's going on. It's not the easiest of bands to get along with. As lots of people have said to me, I should start my own project someday.
 14.
What's all this 'overdub' business..? Our guitarist would love to spend the day doing multitrack takes but he's just not allowed. We won't record anything that we can't reproduce live - for better or worse.
That sounds the right way to be to me . We have all earned the money to pay for the recording by gigging, so I think I will put my foot down.
 15.
What's this "just" business? Do you not have an equal say in which way the sound moves?
Lets see.. I will try. I guess I'm just a bit peed-off atm .. did some live recording for the radio last week with another band and you couldn't even hear the bass, wouldn't DI me and only picked the bass up through the drum mics . I bit my tongue as I didn't have the energy to argue it anymore.. might as well of stayed at home lol. So I'm a bit sour with it all atm.
 16. Maybe it's just me at the moment? Went into record our first Album a couple of weeks back. We have been together a couple of years and all the songs are written by the singer/ rhythm guitarist. Straight forward Blues/Rock stuff, 2 guitars, bass , drums and vox.. We got most of the fundamentals down (14 songs) in 3 days.. we had worked and got it all well arranged beforehand. I just now feel a bit out in the cold, the lead guitarist has gone back in to do solo overdubs as well as more rhythm guitar and also added some acoustic guitar, (layering the songs!).. The drummer goes back in to add some percussion etc. I'm just feeling a bit left out as I got the bass bits done pretty quick.. I didn't overplay at all and left room for the music to breathe a bit. I was under the impression from the other guys that it was to be a reflection of our live rough roots. Maybe I just have to wait till the mixing starts to get more of an idea about which way the guys are trying to move our sound. Has anyone been there or able to relate to what I'm trying to say?
 17.
Dunno if someone has put this on here yet, but here we go: http://www.gigwise.c...-at-glastonbury
lol, those will take some beating.. Nice P.
 18. I knew this thread would bring out some crackers I'll have to add my 70 P.. can't put much wear down to myself as I've only had it about a year.
 19. I hope you get some earplugs with them I use a set of GS 112's and always thought they suited a more rockier sound than the DB's and liked to be cranked to get the most out of them.
 20. I do like the Dunlops on a P.. Good enough for Paul Turner, good enough for me http://www.jimdunlop.com/artist/paul_turner
 21.
Considering a Rumble 500 combo instead of my TC Electronic BG250 combo.
Best to try them side by side if you can... I have the older BG500 combo in 2x10 and also the new Rumble 500 and I have found the Rumble is a lot more focused and punchy and will go a lot louder before it loses it's roundness. No built in tuner or compressor on the Rumble but it sounds a lot nicer to my ears.
 22.
Nice PBasses out there?
I bought a great Ray off Drums so have no fear in dealing with this man. I also have a 1970 P, but don't think I could part with it
 23. I was in the same position as you and really wanted a 4 stringer in 34" I still managed to find one of the Pro series basses for sale a few months back.. If you don't mind ordering in you might still be lucky if you shop around. Saying that I have only heard good things about the Rockbass versions, if you are going 5 I can't see it being a problem. Edit to say, there was a 5 stringer Pro on here for sale/swap recently
 24. Nice bass, but has your Teacher ever tried a Fender to record? I joke, I have a Warwick Starbass in my arsenal, The Pro series is pretty good I agree.
 25.
I haven't played it yet, but I really like the option of adding an extra cab (like a 1x15") to it.
It is an option for sure. I was tempted at practice to add on an Aggie GS 12 to it, but didn't bother in the end as it had enough there. I think an extra 15" would be nice if you wanted to go very loud or really get some air moving.
