1. I do like the Dunlops on a P.. Good enough for Paul Turner, good enough for me http://www.jimdunlop.com/artist/paul_turner
  2.
Considering a Rumble 500 combo instead of my TC Electronic BG250 combo.
Best to try them side by side if you can... I have the older BG500 combo in 2x10 and also the new Rumble 500 and I have found the Rumble is a lot more focused and punchy and will go a lot louder before it loses it's roundness. No built in tuner or compressor on the Rumble but it sounds a lot nicer to my ears.
  3.
Nice PBasses out there?
I bought a great Ray off Drums so have no fear in dealing with this man. I also have a 1970 P, but don't think I could part with it
  4. I was in the same position as you and really wanted a 4 stringer in 34" I still managed to find one of the Pro series basses for sale a few months back.. If you don't mind ordering in you might still be lucky if you shop around. Saying that I have only heard good things about the Rockbass versions, if you are going 5 I can't see it being a problem. Edit to say, there was a 5 stringer Pro on here for sale/swap recently
  5. Nice bass, but has your Teacher ever tried a Fender to record? I joke, I have a Warwick Starbass in my arsenal, The Pro series is pretty good I agree.
  6.
I haven't played it yet, but I really like the option of adding an extra cab (like a 1x15") to it.
It is an option for sure. I was tempted at practice to add on an Aggie GS 12 to it, but didn't bother in the end as it had enough there. I think an extra 15" would be nice if you wanted to go very loud or really get some air moving.
  7.
Crazy how cheap our gear looks under the ghetto tent, there is a few quids worth there, the Jobeky drum kit and control modules alone are worth a fortune yet it all looks like crap from a jumble sale because of the shack, my lighting rig never left the van....
lol Pete, I feel for you. I'd chalk that one down to experience.
  8.
I have the Rumble 40 (great!) and played through the 500 in GAK whilst I was day tripping through Brighton. Wasn't there for long, but it sounded...like a bigger, meaner version of my 40! Well worth the price of admission if you ask me.
I have been using the new rumble 500 for a few gigs now, it's a great lightweight and loud combo, deffo a bit of the vintage sound to it, but hit the bright switch on it and it you can get a lot of top end even with the horn off. It's a nice budget amp.
  9.
That, sir, is a BEAUTIFUL Jazz bass.
Thanks paul it's becoming a favourite again for playing live. I love the range a Jazz bass gives you.
  10. We did a small private party gig last night for Midsummers, had a bit of The Wurzels feel to it lol I always like to play in the daylight and outside even if it's just something makeshift. (The Original Hardway)
  11. lol and there was me thinking the 2x10's I used for an out door gig tonight had plenty of kick.
  12.
I made some sound clips. (Disclaimer: I'm just a dabbler when it comes to home recording)
Lots of growl, I like it
  13.
Do you need a stingray?.....only if you don't need a G string....great 3 string though.
I think there is a lot of BS out there about uneven sounding G-strings on Rays. I have had an EB and a pre EB, they cut through and can be heard however much you want and have a lot of thump even on the G. Maybe the ones that say they have a problem are using VERY light gauged strings.... no idea! Sorry to hear about the bass Pinball.. hope it's all sorted quick for you,
  14. lol, He'll be wanting a guest spot every week now. You guys handled it well.. I do hate that sometimes when it happens.
  15. Jamersonesque? I think it suits it
  16. Yes, I liked the AT's more as well from those clips, amazing how close the Amplitube modelling gets as well.
  17.
But you need at least a P with rounds, a P with flats, a Jazz, a Ray, a 5-string, and a fretless. So that's a minimum of 6 basses right there!
That's about me right there .
  18. Thanks for the tips, I'll try all that, it's setup with flats atm less than a year old and they still seem to have a bit of zing to them to my ear.
  19. Hi. I seem to be getting very low output from one of my Fender P basses and it's now started to bother me, I think I might be missing out on a bit of tone. The bass dates from 1970. I haven't had it to bits yet but guess the pickups are original. Any tips on what to do? been thinking of getting the pickups rewound maybe by Bare Knuckle, do you think it might be a good idea to get the pots changed at the same time? They seem to open and close ok with no scratching. It's a gigging bass ... Cheers.
  20.
2 different bands with two different sound needs then?
Kind of and also the fact that for some reason I like to pair my heads and cabs up with the same maker. I think each set-up is slightly different tonally but both could and do do the job for me. The only consistency is that they go through 12's.
  21. I have the GB shuttle 6.(not the 6.2) the TH500 and the ToneHammer pedal, normally I use the TH pedal mainly for recording the Shuttle 6 and TH500 for live (I play in 2 different bands).. I don't find any of them lacking tbh.

    overdrive!
It`s amazing what a bit of drive does for bass. Listen to many classic basslines on their own, and there`s usually a fair bot of drive from the amps. Gets lost in the mix, generally you don`t hear the drive, ending up with really nice fat bass tones.
Yes, your dead right there Lozz. It's funny I have been after pure tone (whatever that is) most of the time. I guess it's really more what sound/tone suits the music best.. I know I won't be scared to experiment a bit more with it.

    overdrive!

Never really been a fan of distortion or overdrive but recently added a Catalinbread SFT to the armoury, had been using it live as a stomp on for a bit of (tasteful lol) overdrive when needed. Went into record a couple of songs yesterday and after a couple of run-throughts the singer/guitarist suggested I try a bit of distortion/overdrive to give the bass a little more sustain during a slowish number we were working on and you know what? it worked a treat, I never would of thought the extra sustain it gave could of filled out and rounded the sound in the mix as it did.. You live and learn.. I had always been looking for the purist bass sound I could get , maybe not anymore.Thought I'd share I'll post it up once it's mixed and mastered.
  24. Paul Simonon Jah Wobble Bruce Foxton Norman Watt-Roy Bernard Edwards Flea Youth (Martin Glover) Phil Lynott Pino Sting The list could go on..Had the pleasure to see all of those play live as well
  25. I had one sold it, missed it so much I had to get one again.. wouldn't be without a Ray.
